A Billionaire’s Ruse

Sarah and Edward

There were tables with two chairs attached to each table, it was just the right size for an intimate date. There was a small stage where a solo artist could play either acoustic guitar or keyboard and sang softly and beautifully in the evening.

Right now, there was soft music playing in the background and the smell of fresh-baked pastries wafted through the air.

The lighting is soft and warm, creating a perfect ambiance for a first date.

I was pleased with the sight and I felt honored as the queen that I am.

But I never thought that I will be humiliated the way I was later humiliated.Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.

“Hey Brian.” I called his attention. “I thought we were supposed to have a date today.” I asked.

“Yo, everyone. Emily is here.” Brian announced loudly, but there was no other person here. Just these two obviously drunk idiots. They both cackled like two frogs who have been starved of water.

“Brian?” I called him.

“Yes, Emily. Yes, I know we are suppose to be on a date. But you see,” he hiccupped and the barbie on his thighs giggled.

“But you see, you were taking too long to get here and Amy here decided to be a good host and she kept me company. So I decided to play with this honey bunny before you arrived.” he said holding tightly to her waist.

“Huh? But how could you do this?” I asked trying to keep calm.

“You were taking too long to get here Emily. And you know me? I have the concentration of a toddler. I could not wait for you.” He stated smiling at me

“Emily, please leave. As I am talking to you, I would not mind if you take your leave now. I will understand. As you can see I am in the middle of something serious here.” he said dismissing me.

I could not believe my eyes. I walked out immediately to avoid smacking him on the head with a bottle. I am not violent but I was sure that Brian was just out to get me angry. Ugh! I felt like smashing their heads against the wall.

Brian was my friend from high school. Our mothers are friends. When I heard, he was the one I was going on a date with, I relaxed. Atleast he was a friend. But damn Brian.

After that, I had few other dates which were never successful. After a while, I just told my mum to stop whatsoever she believes she is doing for my good.

Narrator’s POV

After all the humiliation Emily had gone through, Sarah had decided to give her a break.

One cool and windy afternoon, she went to the mall for some shopping. She wanted to get a gift for Emily in order to appease her.

There, she met a young man in the shopping center, as she was searching for the prefect gift for Emily.

The heel in the display case was like a siren’s call, luring her in with its seductive curves and impossibly high arch. It was golden in colour.

“This will match that dress I bought recently for her,” she said smiling to herself. She signaled for the attendant to get it for her in size 37. Thankfully, it was still in stock. As she held it, admiring it

“This is perfect, ma’am.” She heard a voice behind me.

She turned to see who it was, “Do you have a daughter? or you want it yourself? he asked.

Sarah stood there, wondering who he was. He was an handsome man, but she was not one to fawn over things like that.

Also, she had never see his face before. So she kept mute and just stared at him, waiting for him to introduce himself.

“Ohhh… I am sorry. Pardon my manners.” He apologized, smiling but Sarah just stared at him blankly till he composed himself

“My name is Edward Stirling. I am a business man from London.” he said stretching out his hands to pass his complimentary card to Sarah.

“Nice meeting you Edward.” Sarah said, receiving the card and stared at it. “I see you’re into construction. But I have never heard of you.”

“Yes, I am into constructions ma’am. And like I said earlier, I am from London. We are just branching out to New York.”

“That is nice.” Sarah said, loosening up to him, “To answer your earlier question, yes, I do have a daughter. Her name is Emily. And just as you saw, I am about to get this pair of shoes for her. She will love it.” Sarah said as they both proceeded to make payments at the counter.

“I will love to pay for that. I hope you will not mind ma’am?” He offered.

“It’s okay. I have got this.” She said declining politely

“Please ma’am. Consider it as a gift from me to your loving daughter.” he offered again, not relenting

Sarah was touched by his genuineness. “Alright Edward, if you insist. But on one condition, you will have to honour my invitation to invite you to my house.”

“I insist ma’am and I will love to visit hour home.” he said, smiling

“It is settled then.” He said, passing his card to the cashier.

“Ohh, thank you so much Edward. My daughter will be happy to get this.” Sarah said smiling warmly at him.

When they got to the entrance of the mall, Sarah turned to him and gave him her card, “here, this is my card, you can call me anytime.”

Edward read the name on the card out loud, ” Mrs. Sarah Thorton? Of the Thorton constructions.” He asked in a surprised tone.

“The very one.” Sarah beamed brightly, glad that he recognised the name.

“It is an honour to meet you ma’am.” Edward said stretching his hand for a handshake

“So, I’ll be expecting to get a call from you soon, okay?”

“I will certainly call you ma’am.” Edward said as he bade farewell to Sarah and headed to his car.

The man standing beside the Bentley car opened the car door for Edward and he got in, then they drove off.

Sarah went to where she had parked her car with so many bright ideas forming in her head for both Edward and her beautiful daughter, Emily.
