Chapter 43 Suicide
Dianne could feel that something was not right. However, since there was no use standing here, she
decided to leave. With that, she turned and said to the receptionist, “Alright. I understand. Thank you.”
After thanking her, Dianne left NG Enterprise. Although she had her suspicions, what happened had
happened, and there was no point in asking more questions.
For the rest of the week, Diane stayed at home. She reluctantly complied as this was instructions from
Christopher.
In fact, she realized one thing about him—his stubbornness. Once he had his mind set to it, no one
else could change his mind.
In this case, regardless the countless pleads from Diane to leave the house, Christopher held his
ground. If that wasn’t enough, he was home to look after her more frequently now. He used to only
appear once in every ten days.
A few days passed by uneventfully. When Christopher left for work on Monday, Diane received a
message on her phone.
As soon as she read the message, she felt that her head was going to explode.
Without delay, she left her house hurriedly, and after an hour, she arrived at Evergreen Incorporated.
At this moment, Evergreen Incorporated suddenly became the most popular spot in the town. Everyone
from different corners of the streets seemed to be gathered outside its office building. If one observed
closely, there was a person standing on top of the office building.
The crowd whispered and discussed furiously amongst themselves. Diane had no time to spare, as she
immediately quickened her pace towards to the direction of Evergreen Incorporated, heading for the
person on top of the building.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, security had tightened at Evergreen Incorporated. She didn’t have to
provide her personal information the last time she was here to meet Christopher.
But now, mentioning the name Christopher was useless even. The receptionist gave a standard
answer, saying that he was busy and had no time to meet her. She already knew he was hard to reach
and that it was useless trying. As a desperate measure, she showed the receptionist the message she
had received earlier.
After scanning through the message on her phone, the receptionist finally gave way and pointed her
the directions to the lift with direct access to the rooftop.
She had only been to Evergreen Incorporated twice, and this was her very first time stepping on the
rooftop.
There was no shade around, allowing the sunlight to beam freely on the rooftop. The wind was also
howling strongly, messing up her hair.
The rooftop was equally as crowded as the people watching on the ground floor. Every personnel on This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
the management level—including Christopher—and a few policemen were trying to coax the victim
from jumping off the building.
It is none other than Elizabeth.
Last time, she made a scene by bringing a tong of gasoline to Cornell residence but was released soon
after as she did not cause any harm to anyone. Right now, she was creating more chaos by threatening
to jump off the building of the largest corporate in town.
Without wasting any more time, Diane squeezed through the crowd and made her way in front.
When she got to the front, her presence caught Christopher’s attention.
“What are you doing here?”
Christopher did not know that the only reason she was standing here was because of the message she
had received from Elizabeth.
Ignoring his question, Diane only glanced at his way before shouting towards Elizabeth.
“I’m here now. Will you please come down first? Everything can be discussed.”
Elizabeth was dressed peculiarly today. She was wearing an all-black attire with a pale white flower
pinned on the breast, fitting for a funeral.
The fencing around the rooftop was approximately a meter tall. She didn’t know how Elizabeth
managed to climb over it, but now, she was cradling the fence. Diane had always been afraid of
heights. Just by standing at her position looking out to Elizabeth, she was already feeling light-headed.
Despite that, she needed to get to Elizabeth.
Just when she was about to step forward, Christopher held her back. “Don’t go there. It’s dangerous.”
Christopher had a stern look on his face, warning her not to take another step. When Diane stared at
him, she felt defeated as his grip on her wrist tightened. She remained at where she was standing and
shouted out once again to Elizabeth.
“Please come down. It’s too dangerous up there. I’m already here, so let’s talk about it.”
The policemen were suddenly aware of what she was doing and reminded her to choose her words
wisely in order to not trigger Elizabeth. Diane nodded; she understood the gravity of this situation and
fixed her gaze on Elizabeth.
As Elizabeth remained at her sitting position, she turned her head towards Diane.
“Diane, I want you dead.”
Before this, Diane was innocent enough to think that her intentions were only money. With her crazy
request, Diane was left speechless.
When Christopher who was next to her heard Elizabeth’s words, his face hardened and he pulled
Diane closer to him, before standing in front of her protectively, completely shielding her from the
threat.
“If you want money, just state any sum. I will not entertain any other requests. If you want to jump off
from here, be my guest.”
The policemen were surprised by Christopher’s cold statement and reminded him to not to trigger
Elizabeth. However, with an unsympathetic look on his face, he was not willing to comply with the
authorities’ request.
“I have nothing more to say to her. I’ll leave it to you people here. It’s not a problem if she dies, but…”
Christopher’s words hung in the air as he glared at Elizabeth. He then used his words to insult her.
“If you die, Stella will benefit from the compensation money, while you won’t be able to get a single
penny out of it. I am a generous man, and I’ll be sure to make sure to compensate her handsomely.
Suit yourself, I have more important things to tend to.”
Ending his speech, Christopher grabbed Diane’s hand and left the scene at once.
Diane was hesitant and glanced at him but his face was determined.
When Elizabeth saw them not wanting to entertain her any further, she panicked and raised her voice.
Nobody could not make out what she was screaming about as it was laced with a thick accent, but it
was something along the lines of ‘murderer’ and ‘unfair’.
However, Christopher did not look back and continued to storm away with Diane. After taking only a
few steps, the police pleaded him to stay.
Suddenly, there were loud gasps coming from the crowd.
When Diane and Christopher finally turned around, they noticed that the previous spot where Elizabeth
occupied was now empty. The crowd blocked their sights so they couldn’t see well, but a moment later,
the policemen rushed forward, and only then did they catch a glimpse of a figure now lying on the
ground.
Elizabeth did not jump off; instead, she fell back onto the rooftop.
Seeing that no one was hurt, Diane let out a breath of relief while Christopher watched the scene.
When the crowd finally dispersed, Elizabeth approached Diane and Christopher slowly as the
policemen supported her limp and weak body.
“Sir, please be rational.”
The police shot Christopher a look, implying that he should take pity on Elizabeth and give her some
money.
However, Christopher remained silent and looked towards Diane.
He wanted to hear Diane’s say in this since it all started because of her.
Just then, Elizabeth who seemed weak and frail just a moment ago sprang up abruptly and took a knife
out from her waist, furiously aiming towards his direction.
“Careful, Christopher.” At this moment, someone from the crowd screamed and threw their body in front
of Christopher, attempting to protect him.
Christopher whipped his head instantly, only to be greeted by the sight of a gleaming sharp blade
piercing into Queenie’s waist.
