Divorcing 352
Chapter 352 Idiot!
Owen sensed something was wrong as he watched Lucy leave with joy today.
It wasn't that he lacked confidence, but he was indeed afraid that she would be meeting Michael.
And true to his fears, that was exactly what happened.
What he hadn't anticipated was Michael bringing Chloe along to embarrass Lucy.
He embraced the tearful Lucy, casting a blaming glance at Chloe across the table.
"Have you had enough? Lucy didn't intentionally use your money. Why are you pushing her like this?"
Chloe was on the verge of laughing.
"Owen, that money was rightfully ours."
Michael, with a serious expression, lightly tapped the table with his finger as if to remind Owen of this fact.Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
"Debts must be repaid, it's only natural."
Owen's face darkened momentarily.
He nodded, comforting Lucy while saying, "Alright, I thought we were all friends and didn't need to be so forceful. I didn't expect you to be so clear about this. Whatever Lucy owes you, I'll repay on her behalf!" Chloe, observing Owen's naive behavior, couldn't help but think of exposing him online. She couldn't help but wonder why Owen was still so stupid at this point. However, she didn't bother to help him tell right from wrong this time.
Holding up four fingers, she said, "Who are you to repay on her behalf? But it doesn't matter. It's a total of 46 million and 50 thousand dollars."
Owen was taken aback.
When he had rushed over, he had only heard Chloe pressuring Lucy to repay the money but hadn't caught the exact amount.
Now, hearing the figure from Chloe, he was genuinely surprised.
Even though the Smith family wasn't short on money, coming up with over forty million in a short time was quite challenging.
Knowing that he was still trying to act rich, Chloe taunted, "You don't have that much either?"
Owen gritted his teeth, saying, "I have. Give me a day, and the money will be in your account by tomorrow."
"Good then. Write me an IOU. The repayment deadline is tomorrow. If it's not done by then, I'll go to the police."
Chloe had anticipated that today's visit for money wouldn't go smoothly, so she had already prepared pen and paper. Taking them out of her bag, she pushed them towards Owen.
"Write it."
Chloe pressed her lips, eager to see how Owen would handle the situation.
Owen was the most financially modest among Michael, Asher, and himself in their little group.
His family's assets topped out at just a few hundred million dollars. He was simply lucky that he got to be friends with Michael and Asher.
They later founded Shawn Heavy Industries together, indeed making a good amount of money.
If he were to immediately pay off Lucy's debt, he might find himself out of the upper class later.
Lucy seemed to sense his hesitation, grabbing his hand and saying, "Owen, I know you care for me, but I can't let you repay this money. It's my mom's spending, even if I have to work to earn it back, it should be me repaying."
Lucy had always been a goddess-like figure in Owen's mind. So, he couldn't bear to let her work that hard for money.
Upon hearing this, he immediately frowned.
"I should pay Chloe back, it's just... I might be out of your league," Lucy added.
"Lucy, don't say that. You're my girlfriend. We're family!"
Chloe finally understood what was going on. Turned out that Owen was gonna help Lucy out because they were together now.
Then she turned to look at Michael, wondering if he would be sad by what he saw. After all, Lucy was his old flame, but now she became his good friend's girlfriend.
However, Chloe was mistaken this time. Michael was sitting next to her, casually rubbing his earlobe with a nonchalant expression.
He then fixed the cufflinks on his suit sleeve. Clearly, he was impatient, and perhaps, annoyed.
Owen, provoked by Lucy's words, immediately picked up a pen and wrote out an IOU. Surprisingly, he even wrote his own name as the debtor, without including Lucy at all. Chloe watched in disbelief and rolled her eyes, muttering, "Idiot!"
