After Divorcing my Captain Husband (Chloe and Michael)

Divorcing 486

Chapter 486 The Ring

She came there to study with a student visa.

If she couldn't find a job after graduation, she would be sent back home in no time.

In addition, if James had to go to the army, he would definitely not marry her within a year or two. She would not be able to get a permanent residence certificate and would have to return home. Then all her years of hard work abroad would be in vain.

Maggie's family was just an ordinary working-class family. Sending her to study abroad had already drained their entire savings.

If she wanted to change her social status, she had to stay abroad.

"Maggie, the exchange program is only for a year. When you return, everything here will still be waiting for you. You're young and in your prime. Seeing the world for a year will make it easier for you to stay here permanently."

The principal's words undoubtedly hit upon Maggie's deepest soft spot.

She started to waver.

The principal continued, "It's only one year. It will pass quickly."

Yes, it was just a year.

She agreed to go as an exchange student and called James the night before she left because he hadn't been to school for a week.

But her calls went unanswered.

She called him over ten times, all with the same result. Finally, she learned from a classmate that James had gone to the desert with his father the previous week.

When would he return? Nobody knew.

Maggie found herself at a crossroads. Leaving meant she would be gone for a year without James knowing.

Staying meant she couldn't get a permanent residence certificate, and if James didn't marry her, she'd have to go back home.

After much deliberation, she decided she couldn't gamble her future and fate on James, on a relationship his father disapproved of, and on a marriage that might never happen. So she packed her bags and left.

Before she left, she asked her best friend to explain everything to James when he returned.

She thought that if she and James were destined to be together, they could still continue when she came back a year later.

But she didn't expect that after

James went to the desert, he

immediately joined his father's army.

He just dropped his classes at

school and just had to go back on time to take the exams.

James never saw Maggie again, and the friend she had entrusted never reached out to him.

From James's perspective, it seemed like Maggie left for the exchange program without even a word, effectively ending their relationship.

Everyone around him thought that

he and Maggie were just a fling, until Maggie returned from abroad last time with her fiancé, and then they realized that James had never let go

Chloe felt quite sorry for their stories.

Swno

"Ms. Xander, is there something you need my help with?"

Chloe still didn't understand why she suddenly told her about the story with James, especially since she was already married.

Maggie forced a smile. "Yeah, before today, I thought I wouldn't tell this to anyone."

She didn't know what was wrong. Ever since she saw the emerald ring on Chloe's finger on the wedding day, she hadn't been able to control herself. She had seen that ring before.

James brought it out from home and showed it to her like a treasure, and she praised it for its beauty.

James said proudly, "This is what my family gave to the future Mrs. Dale. It will be yours sooner or later anyway. I took it out early to show you." That ring, which was supposed to be hers, was now on Chloe's finger.Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.

No matter how much she tried to control her emotions, she still had an argument with James on the wedding day.

She asked him if he had given the ring to Chloe, but he said it had nothing to do with her anymore.

That night, she was in a daze. Her husband thought she was tired from the wedding, so he let her sleep well and did not disturb her at all.

"Ms. Nelson, the kinder my husband is to me, the worse I feel. Do you understand my feelings?"

Chloe frowned. "Sorry, but I don't."

She had always thought of Maggie as a sophisticated and mature woman, but now, even Maggie could make such a fundamental mistake.

"If you still had feelings for James,

you shouldn't have married

someone else. Now that you ar net

married, you shouldn't be dwelling on your past with James."

She hadn't shown the respect she owed either James or her husband.
