After the Divorce: Crushed on My Lawyer Ex-wife

Chapter 240

#235 “You Know I Could Live Like This For the Rest of My Life.”

In the evening, Alexander returned to their apartment with Sophia. As he opened the door, the enticing aroma of a freshly cooked dinner filled the air, drawing him toward the kitchen. There, he found Sophia singing along to a song and swaying rhythmically as she cooked.

Sophia was clad only in one of his shirts, the hem barely reaching her thighs. Around the dining area, candles flickered softly and a bottle of wine was set neatly beside two glasses on the table. Alexander paused in the doorway, struck by the intimate scene and the undeniable beauty of the woman before him.

“You know I could live like this for the rest of my life,” he said, his voice filled with affection and admiration.

Startled by his sudden presence, Sophia spun around, causing a plate she had been drying to slip from her fingers and crash to the floor, shattering into numerous pieces.

“God, don’t sneak up on me like that!” she exclaimed, a mix of surprise and laughter coloring her voice.

“I’ll clean up,” Alexander replied with a gentle smile, bending to gather the scattered shards. “A broken plate is lucky, after all.”

“Are you Greek?” Sophia teased, her eyes sparkling with amusement.

“No, but my grandmother was. You know, they break plates at their weddings to drive away evil spirits, and the more pieces, the more years of happiness,” Alexander explained, scooping up the last of the ceramic fragments.

“There are at least a hundred here, so we don’t have anything to worry about, “Sophia laughed, her earlier shock now completely dissipated.

“That’s right,” Alexander said, taking the broken plate as a good omen. Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.

He was about to sweep up the last of the pieces when his phone rang. Sophia gestured towards the phone. “I will finish here,” she told him. “Answer your call.”

Grateful, Alexander thanked her with a tender kiss on the forehead before stepping into the other room to take the call. As he answered, he saw it was Evelyn calling.

“Hello,” he greeted.

“Alexander, you won’t believe it. The gallery is available next week, so we can have the engagement party there,” Evelyn’s voice buzzed with excitement.

“This is great news. Reserve it,” Alexander responded quickly.

“Already did,” Evelyn confirmed, her tone matching the urgency and excitement of the event planning.

After ending the call with Evelyn, Alexander returned to the kitchen, where Sophia was putting the finishing touches on dinner. He wrapped his arms around her waist, planting a kiss on her cheek.

“My mom is having a party next week at the Vila clear your schedule, love.” Alexander informed her with a grin.

Sophia’s eyes lit up with excitement. ” That’s amazing news!” she exclaimed, turning to face him and enveloping him in a warm hug. “Your mother always throws wonderful parties.”

Dinner was a romantic affair, filled with laughter and stolen glances. As they finished their meal, Alexander reached for Sophia’s hand across the table.

“So I’ll tell my mom we’ll be attending. She will be very happy.” Alexander said.

Sophia smiled softly, squeezing his hand. “I can not wait.”

After dinner, they settled onto the couch, ready to relax and enjoy a movie with popcorn. They were snuggled up together, enjoying the peaceful evening when Alexander’s phone rang once more, breaking the serenity.

Sophia frowned slightly but didn’t say anything as Alexander excused himself to answer the call. He walked into the other room to speak to Evelyn.

Sophia picked up the TV remote, flipping through channels as she tried to distract herself from wondering who was calling Alexander. A few minutes later, Alexander returned, but just as they were getting comfortable again, his phone rang once more.

Sophia bit her lip, feeling a little frustrated by the constant interruptions, but she remained silent. Alexander apologized and excused himself once more.

As Alexander continued his conversation with Evelyn, Sophia decided to quietly check what was going on. She tiptoed towards the room but stopped short when she heard Evelyn’s voice saying, “Sophia shouldn’t know about us.”

Sophia’s heart skipped a beat, her confusion evident on her face. She quietly made her way back to the living room, her mind reeling with questions.

Sophia couldn’t shake off the feeling of confusion. As she returned to the living room, her mind was racing. She couldn’t help but wonder what Alexander and Evelyn were discussing. She felt a pang of insecurity, but she pushed it away, not wanting to jump to conclusions.

“Everything alright?” Alexander asked as he walked back into the room, concern etched on his face.

Sophia forced a smile. “Yes, everything’s fine,” she replied, trying to sound convincing.

Alexander sat down beside her, but the air between them felt different now. An unspoken tension hung in the room.

“Did you enjoy the movie?” Alexander asked, trying to break the silence.

Sophia nodded, but her mind was preoccupied. She couldn’t shake off the feeling that something wasn’t right.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Alexander asked, his voice filled with concern.

Sophia hesitated for a moment, her heart pounding. “Yes, I’m fine. Just a little tired, I think,” she replied, forcing a smile.

Alexander reached out, taking her hand. “Let’s finish the movie and head to bed, okay?”

Sophia nodded, trying to suppress the nagging feeling in her gut. As they continued watching the movie, she couldn’t shake off the thought of Evelyn’s words. Something was going on, and she was determined to find out what it was.
