Chapter 89
Ryan looked at me as if he expected this question. It was obvious I would ask him that. Priorities kept changing in our world.
So does the power dynamics and if Ryan was telling me this, it was obvious that he had ulterior motives.
"Ella, I know that you are right. It's hard to believe me. And given that I am Alpha Rambo's son, believing me becomes so hard. But you have to trust me, I have nothing. Nothing to do or nothing to say. I only have my words and only time can prove to you where my loyalties lie. You have to trust me and that is my stance." He said.
I looked at him for a moment and weighed my options. It's true that he had nothing but I have a lingering feeling he does want something from me. If he was betraying his father there must be something he wanted from me or my pack.
He was not doing this from the goodness of his heart.
I knew it from my heart.
"What is his plan? Why does he want to kill me? And if he really wants to kill me, why did he organize this Alpha conference? He could have just called my pack and things would have been so easy." I asked him. These questions were troubling me.
If his main intention was to kill me then why go so far to organize a conference where many eyes would be on him. Why take that risk.
This was so confusing.
"Things are not that simple. Yes he wants to kill you but that's not his only motive. He has bigger plans. He organized this Alpha conference not because he wants to attack you or wants to meet like minded people. No, he organized this conference because he wants to weaken the other packs. No peace, only war."
I stared at Ryan, trying to process what he had just told me. The Alpha conference, a gathering meant to solidify peace and unity among the packs, was meant to be turned into a battlefield by his father. The Moonlake Pack, already one of the most powerful, would grow even stronger by inciting chaos.
But despite the urgency in Ryan's voice, I couldn't shake my doubts. "You expect me to believe that your father is willing to sacrifice the stability of all the packs just to gain more power?" I said, my voice thick with skepticism. "This sounds insane, Ryan."
He met my gaze, frustration simmering just beneath the surface. "I know how it sounds, but you don't know my father the way I do. He's been planning this for years, Ella. The Alpha conference is his chance to strike. He'll stir up old grudges, provoke rivalries, and before anyone realizes it, the packs will be too weak to resist him."
I wanted to believe him, but the magnitude of what he was saying felt impossible. "And I'm supposed to trust you because what? You suddenly had a change of heart? Why can't this all be your plan to take over the power from your father. This all could be a facade to trick us into harming him. I cannot risk everything based on your words."
Ryan's jaw clenched, his eyes dark with a mix of anger and something else, pain. "You want proof?" he asked quietly, stepping closer.
Without warning, he yanked up the edge of his shirt, revealing a network of scars that criss crossed his chest and back. They weren't just any scars they were brutal, jagged lines etched into his skin, standing out in stark contrast against the smooth flesh that should have been unblemished. It was a sight that seemed almost impossible for an Alpha, someone whose enhanced healing abilities should have longnoveldrama
erased any trace of injury.
I gasped, taking an instinctive step backward. "Ryan... what happened?" I managed to stammer, my voice barely a whisper.
Ryan's gaze locked onto mine, his eyes clouded with a mixture of pain and fury. "What, Ella? Can you see these scars?" His voice held a challenge, as though daring me to comprehend the magnitude of what I was seeing.
I couldn't speak. I couldn't find the words, couldn't even begin to articulate the shock and horror that flooded through me at the sight of him like this. My mind whirled, trying to reconcile the image of the strong, invincible Alpha I thought I knew with the broken man standing in front of me now. Words failed me completely, leaving me utterly speechless.
"My father did this," Ryan said, his voice breaking through the thick silence, raw and unguarded. "He doesn't tolerate disobedience-not even from his own blood. Not even from his son." His tone darkened, thick with bitterness. "I tried to stand up to him, tried to challenge him, this is what happened. These scars, they're the ones that never healed, because the wounds were too deep. Too frequent."
I could hardly tear my eyes away from the marks that marred his body. Alphas were supposed to heat quickly, their supernatural abilities allowing them to recover from nearly any wound within a matter of hours.
For these scars to remain, the injuries must have been beyond
severe, bordering on fatal. It was
horrifying to think what kind of pain
he must have endured.
"Ryan," I whispered, my voice barely audible as I struggled to process the flood of emotions washing over me. Sympathy, yes, but something else, too-guilt. How could I have been so blind?
But before I could say anything more, Ryan cut me off, his tone sharp. "I don't need your sympathy, Ella." His eyes flashed with a barely contained rage, a growl rising in his throat. "I need your help. Are you willing to give me that?" The question hung between us like a blade, demanding an answer.
What do you think?
