As long as she didn't hear about Hunter and Jenna, Mia could maintain a good mood.
Just as she reached the elevator, the doors opened, and Jenna's face appeared before her. Mia froze for a moment. What a coincidence.
"Mia, did you come to see me too?" Jenna approached, affectionately linking her arm through Mia's, speaking softly as though they were close friends.
Mia subtly pulled her arm away. "I'm here to check on a client of mine who's in the hospital."
Subconsciously, she didn't want Jenna to know her grandmother was being treated there, so she added a few extra details.
"Even if you're not here to see me, it's fine. Since we've run into each other, let's grab a seat and chat. I've got so much to talk to you about!" Jenna smiled sweetly, her voice soft, as if Mia's cold demeanor didn't faze her in the least.
Mia glanced down at her, a mocking smile curling on her lips. "Even if you've slept with Hunter and got the family bracelet, as long as Hunter and I aren't divorced, you're still just the shameless mistress. What could we possibly have to talk about?"
It was the first time in Mia's life she had ever seen a mistress parading in front of the wife, as if flaunting their affair was something to be proud of. She wasn't sure whether to call it shamelessness or to envy their so-called "true love." A crowd nearby was buzzing with whispers, enjoying the drama unfolding.
"That proposal was so romantic, I thought it was true love. Turns out he's just a scumbag, and she's the mistress. So disgusting!"
"First, she steals someone's husband, then their family bracelet? Seems like she's got a habit of taking things that aren't hers!"
"There was that trending rumor about her winning awards through shady deals, and having a kid with some rich guy. Guess it's all true!"
"What a shameless woman!"
As these harsh comments filled the air, Jenna's face drained of color.
Even if she could brazenly tell Mia that she was carrying Hunter's child, trying to push Mia out of his life, she was still the shameless mistress in everyone else's eyes.
At that moment, it felt like she was being stripped bare, left standing in front of everyone. She felt humiliated and ashamed.
Mia watched Jenna's pale face, but didn't feel any satisfaction. "If you're pregnant, you should be convincing Hunter to divorce me, not harassing me. Pushing me won't get you anywhere."
If Hunter agreed to the divorce, Mia could head straight to the courthouse and finalize it today. At the end of the day, the problem was Hunter, not Jenna.
Even knowing about Hunter and Jenna's relationship, Mia never sought Jenna out to fight. To her, it was
clear that the one at fault was Hunter. Competing with another woman made no sense. Why shoul women make things harder for each other?Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
Jenna, under the scrutiny of the crowd, felt humiliated, But she knew if she backed down now, she would soon become the target of public outrage, the home-wrecker everyone would despise. Her career and future would be destroyed. No! She couldn't let Mia have the upper hand.
Regaining her composure, Jenna quickly removed the bracelet from her wrist, grabbing Mia's hand and trying to shove it back on. "I asked Hunter for this bracelet because I thought it was pretty. I had no idea it was a family bracelet! I didn't mean to upset you, Mia. I'm sorry. Here, take it back and let's not fight over this, okay?"
Her grip was so tight, Mia's wrist nearly dislocated from the force, pain flashing across her face. She pushed Jenna off, her voice cold, "Even if I want the bracelet, I'd only take it if Hunter gave it to me himself. I'd never stoop so low as to take it from you."
It wasn't about the bracelet. It was about Hunter's actions. This was supposed to be a birthday gift from his grandfather, and just because Jenna liked it, Hunter gave it to her.
Why?
"Well, if you don't care, then stop acting like the bracelet belongs to you. Deep down, you still want it, don't you?" a cold, familiar voice interrupted.
Mia looked up to see Hunter standing there.
