Arrogant Man VS Unyielding Woman

Chapter 420 We Should Call The Police!

Chapter 420 We Should Call The Police!

"Although we don't know exactly what is going on, Joy is sure to have told the kidnappers your actions

and intentions." Zed let out a sigh.

He was a little worried as things were turning out to be more complicated than he had expected.

No matter what tricks they tried to play, it was all in vain and they were failing again and again.

"Jean, have you called the police?" Moore asked in a concerned tone.

"No! Not yet." Jean shook her head and explained,"Joy kept saying that we couldn't call the police

because if we did, the kidnappers would kill Shirley at once. There was no way we could do that!"

"Then I think you'd better call the police now!" Moore sincerely advised them. "There's still time, Jean. I

think you'll be able to come up with a workable plan if you discuss the matter with the police. I don't

think you should endanger your life directly."

Jean stole a glance at Moore. From his tone, she could feel that he was implying something behind his

advice.

Did he understand her true intentions?

She hadn't called the police as she hadn't wanted them to get involved. It would have compromised her

chances of finding out the details behind Winner's death and she didn't want that to happen.

"I also think it's time we call the police, Jean."

Zed echoed Moore's words.

Jean turned around and looked at her husband with an astonished look. He held her hands and tried to

explain,"Jean, things have blown way out of proportion. We are out of our depth and matters are out of

our control. Things are more dangerous than ever before. I don't think we can trust anyone, not even

Joy. And Jean, I can't let you risk your life. Please listen to me. Call the police because I won't allow

you to go to the exchange tonight!"

"All right. Whatever you say. Let's call the police." Jean sighed when she heard that Zed wasn't going

to let her go to the exchange. She agreed reluctantly with a nod to her husband.

Zed let out a sigh of relief on hearing that her wife had agreed to involve the cops now

and looked at Moore in gratitude. If it weren't for that man, Jean would never have agreed to involve

the authorities and would have gone on with her plan no matter how much danger it threw her way.

Zed got up to call the police while Jean asked Moore with a frown,"Moore, do you really think that Joy

doesn't care even a single bit about Shirley's life?"

There was a deep look hidden behind Moore's eyes as he glanced at Jean and replied thoughtfully,"I

don't know Jean, but I guess we'll find out tonight. So you should not worry about it any more. The cops

are going to be here any minute now. Have you figured out what are you goling to tell them?"

"I'll think about it," Jean replied and immediately went into some deep thoughts, evidently planning

something.

Seeing that, Moore let out a silent sigh. 'Jean, you are such a kind and optimistic personality. Otherwise

you would have easily understood the entire operation is a big farce filled with such enormous

loopholes.'

Zed finished the call and returned. He noticed that Jean was lost in thought as he walked to Moore and

thanked him graciously. "Thank you."

"What are you thanking me for? And by the way, I'm really curious. Why didn't you tell Jean everything?

I believe you'd figured everything out much earlier," Moore asked Zed with curiosity written all over his

face.

"I have been suspicious of Joy since last night." Zed put on a bitter smile and continued,"But I didn't

want Jean to get disappointed. She believes so much in humanity and I didn't want her to lose that

trust. Besides, I hadn't planned on leaving her alone, or even letting her go alone. I would have made

sure that she stayed under my protection all the time. She'll find out everything in the end by herself,

and I think that would be much better for her than hearing it from me."

"You are not protecting her actually. What you did might have put her in danger. I understand that you

wanted Jean to lose all hope of the Wen family. But you know Jean and her heart. Things wouldn't

even have ended up like this if she hadn't been so kind!"

"I thought too much about the matter which resulted in my hesitation." Zed put on a soft smile.

Moore sighed and continued,"In any case, your intentions were good. Nobody could have known what

was going to happen and nobody can prophesize what's going to happen before it actually does! One

can only guess and whether or not it turns out to be true remains to be seen."

"What are you two talking about?" Jean suddenly startled them with the question as she came back to

her senses and noticed the serious looks on their faces.

"We are talking about the case," Zed replied, looking at Jean. "According to the limited clues that we

have gathered, our guess is just a guess. We can't be sure of the matter and we can't say for certain if

things are what we have expected. So Jean, you need to be careful tonight!"

"Don't I have you by my side?" Jean's face glowed with a loving smile, filled with the trust and affection

she had for Zed. It seemed to relax her husband who lost his frown and reached out a hand to

affectionately rub her hair. "You're right! You have me!" Zed said.

Hearing his confirmation, Jean's smile widened even more.

Moore turned around and moved his attention elsewhere when he saw that the beautiful couple were

both lost in each other's eyes.

To be honest, Moore admired their love for each other. He didn't envy Zed and wasn't jealous of him

even though he himself had feelings for Jean as well.

Moore was a tolerant person. He knew it from the beginning that he could never let Jean know how he

actually felt about her.

The politeness and etiquettes he had gathered through his background and education would never let

him ruin anyone's happiness, and what's more, he couldn't see Jean sad or in pain.

Therefore, Moore spent a lot of time persuading himself to love Jean just like his sister.

And his persuasion seemed to be working too!

At the very least, he didn't envy Zed and had never planned about breaking them up when he saw

them so happy together.

Instead, he believed that he would be happy as long as Jean was happy.

Perhaps that was the best from what a secret crush could have taken for him.

Moore had never expected that he would experience so many different things as he had only planned

to tour H City over the surface initially.

However, not only had he been in a near-death experience, he had fallen in love and that had

broadened his imagination and understanding.

The police arrived soon. To Jean's surprise, the chief captain came in person, along with his favorite

assistant.

Jean then realized that it was Zed who had called the police, so it wasn't surprising that the chief

captain had arrived in person. He wouldn't have risked offending Zed.

The captain's name was Lan Wang. A short, fat personality but altogether a nice one.

The assistant Lan brought was also a captain who had solved many tough cases recently.

His name was Billy Zhou and he was Lan's hottest right-hand man.

Billy looked pretty young almost like a fresh college graduate, recently out of university. But according

to Lan, Billy had worked for the authorities for five years now. It was his baby face that had covered his

age and strengths.

It was understandable that after a call from Zed, the chief captain would come in person and bring This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

along his capable right-hand man.

It also explained why Billy didn't seem to be affected when he saw someone as famous as Zed talking

to him. Instead, he remained calm and composed, looking like the person who would follow the

regulations to the letter of the law.

"Why didn't you call the police as soon as the kidnappers contacted you? It's been so many days now!"

Billy asked as he took a look at Jean without any facial expressions.

Jean had prepared for the question in advance but when she saw Billy's cold eyes staring through her,

she got nervous and forgot everything she had imagined she would answer with.

"I, ur, I..." she stuttered.

"The kidnappers threatened us not to call the police or they will kill Shirley. We were concerned about

her life and we didn't dare take any risks!" Zed noticed Jean's nervousness and replied.
