Chapter 544
Nicholas quickly grabbed a towel before he ran down and wrapped Alicia up in it. He continuously wiped her hair and face. Her body was freezing cold in his arms, so he swiftly wiped her down to prevent her from catching a cold.
"What happened to you? Didn't you..." Didn't she mention that she was going to find Frederick? This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
After he noticed her apathetic expression and the sorrow in her eyes, he immediately sealed his lips. He figured that something bad had happened so he quickly changed the topic.
"Hurry back to your room! You should take a shower and change your clothes. I don't want you to catch a cold!"
As he pushed her into the room, he then switched on the air conditioner, grabbed some clothes for her, and dragged her into the bathroom.
"Hurry up or else you'll get sick! I can't help you with this, but if there's anything else you want to talk about, well talk about it when you're done with this. Now, go!"
He only headed downstairs once he heard the sound of running water after she entered the bathroom.
After her shower, Alicia promptly changed her clothes and left the room. Nicholas happened to prepare her a cup of hot tea as he said, "Come on, have some tea. It'll help warm you up. I even added some brown sugar for you!"
As he passed the cup over to her, he turned around and headed to the bathroom and brought out a hairdryer. The moment he came out, he saw Alicia, who had held the cup of tea, while tears welled up in her eyes. Her tears rolled down her cheeks and dripped into the cup.
"Ally?"
"Sob... Nicholas..." As her red lips turned pale, she immediately burst into tears.
He reached out and took the cup of tea away from her. He hugged her and said, "It's okay, you're okay! I'm here, I'm here for you..."
Sob... Sob...
She broke down in that instance and was weeping uncontrollably as he pulled her head into his chest.
After a long tearful moment, Nicholas realized that Alicia had finally settled down and was exhausted. He picked her up and laid her on her bed. He also placed a pillow under her head and took a few tissues to wipe the tears from the corners of her eyes.
"Alright, calm down. Your eyes are already swollen. Are you hungry? I'll get you a bowl of soup and something to eat! You've been crying for quite a while now, so go get some rest."
He pinched her face and stood up. He then headed out of the room to give her some space.
As she wept, tears formed in her eyes, but there was a faint smile across her lips.
Shortly, Nicholas brought in another meal for her. There was a bowl of soup, a bowl of oatmeal, and several buns.
He passed her the soup first, then one of the buns. He then picked up the hairdryer by the table and dried her hair. While she munched on the bun, her body felt warmer, and tears suddenly welled up again.
As soon as he turned off the hairdryer, he realized that tears had rolled down her cheeks once more.
"What's the matter this time? Did that b*stard bully you?"
Alicia shook her head then pursed her lower lip and muttered, "No, I'm just happy! My brother is so kind to me, just like when we were kids. You care for me just like you used to..."
It would've been great if she had a boyfriend like her brother. He treated her well and loved her very much!
"Silly girl, you are my sister! Isn't it my responsibility to take care of you?"
As he stroked her soft and silky hair, he wanted to ask her what had happened. However, as soon as he looked up, he noticed the dark circles under her eyes. He swallowed the questions that popped up in his mind.
"Are you tired yet? Come on, let's get you to bed. You should get some rest!"
He ensured that she laid still while he pulled the quilt to cover her up. "Everything will be fine when you wake up!"
"Okay..."
She was really tired and her eyelids were drooping. She blinked twice before her eyes closed. After a while, a snoring sound could be heard from her direction.
On the other hand, Nicholas remained in the room as well. He slowly tiptoed over to the sofa and took a nap reluctantly.
After he woke up from his slumber, he realized that the sky was already bright. He got up and noticed that Alicia was still fast asleep. She was like a baby who did not budge at all.
He stretched his body and looked at the time before he tiptoed his way out. He went to his room first to wash up before he headed downstairs to cook some food. He chopped some cucumbers and carrots and prepared a sauce.
He wanted her to remain in bed a while longer, so he didn't wake her up. He ordered breakfast, then brought the newspaper downstairs and began to read it. He patiently waited until his breakfast order had arrived, yet there still wasn't any movement from upstairs. Seeing that it was past nine o'clock, he got up and headed upstairs. When he entered the room, he saw Alicia, who was still lying in bed. She hadn't
turned around at all.
All of a sudden, he realized something wasn't quite right. He walked over quickly and said, "Ally?"
"Yes..."
She groaned as he had disrupted her sleep. The moment he placed his hand over her forehead, he realized that her forehead was brimming hot! It was obvious that she had a fever!
"Oh no, you're sick. I was too careless! Ally, wake up. Don't fall asleep..."
He continuously nudged her. He turned around and searched for the first aid kit. After that, he took her temperature with a thermometer then poured her some warm water and fed her some antipyretics.
He looked at the thermometer and noticed her temperature was almost 39 degrees. He helped her up and fed her some medicine. "Here, swallow this. I'll take you to the hospital if your fever doesn't subside!"
"Ahem, ahem... It's so bitter..."
"Oh, so you do realize that it's bitter? Look at yourself, you've caught a fever because you didn't take care of yourself! Is there any other part of your body that feels uncomfortable?" He scolded her in a soft tone as he handed her more water.
She shook her head and noticed that it felt heavier, but she simply smiled and said, "I never thought that I would fall sick again!"
After continuous painful experiences in her relationship, Alicia never expected herself to be affected by it again.
"Huh?" Nicholas couldn't grasp the meaning behind her words. He wondered if it was the fever talking.
Subconsciously, he extended his hand again to touch her forehead. All of a sudden, she sighed deeply.
"The last time I fell ill was because
of my past relationship when
Jeremy fled from our wedding. I
thought that it was the most
el
agonizing experience I've ever been
through! But this time, I never
expected that... I'd fall sick again
because of my feelings for
Frederick. Nicholas, I guess
anyone's tolerance for pain doesn't
necessarily develop overtime and
experience, does it?"
Tears welled up in her eyes again while the corner of her mouth twitched as well. Her face was filled with disdain and there was a profound sadness deep within her eyes. This time, Frederick was about to marry another woman!
In the past, she mentioned that she would never allow a man to hurt her again in this life. However, she just made the same mistake again! She was unlucky the first time. However, Frederick was her second, so was it merely her own problem?
Deep down, her heart started to question him over and over again!
As soon as Nicholas noticed her haggard face, he immediately went over and lifted her face while he comfortingly caressed it as he said.
"Silly girl! You're not superwoman!
It'll only be weird if you don't get sick after being drenched under the rain! Ally, don't blame yourself for another person's sake, you should love
yourself more instead, another
Besides, you're my golden girl anyways, so you deserve so much more than this! It isn't worth crying over him Ally, it's better to prioritize yourself!"
She tilted her head and a smile of relief appeared on her face. "I know! I'm not going to be depressed about it anymore, let alone fall for..." She promised herself not to repeat the same mistake again.
As she held onto his warm hands, her eyes lit up like the stars in the sky. "Back then, I had to endure everything alone when I was sick. But now, I have you to take care of me, so I'll definitely recover quickly!"
