Chapter 975
Bloddy b*stard!
Infuriated, Lauren clenched her fists until her knuckles cracked. Contrary to her usual air of insouciance and nonchalance, thinking about the matter then made her blood boil.
She wondered if she had misheard, so she decided to give it a check. Returning to where she was earlier, Lauren took the flyers out again and went on distributing them and taking records.
As anticipated, before she could distribute more than two flyers, another two men donning city council uniforms walked over. "Get out of here! Beat it! You're not allowed to distribute flyers on this street!" they berated.
Turning a deaf ear to their commands, Lauren turned around and pulled a passer-by aside. "Sir, here's your free trial card!"
She did not even bother asking him to leave his phone number after that. Instead, she straightaway moved to the other side of the street approaching her next target.
The two city council officers were surprised to see that. One of them snatched the free trial card from the man's hand and dumped it into the trash can before chasing after Lauren again in order to block her way.
"Miss, this is our jurisdiction here! In conjunction with the Environment Day, no one is allowed to distribute any flyers or make any trash here this month! You better leave now!"
Pursing her lips, Lauren pretended not to hear that. She held the stack of flyers in her arms tightly, without saying a single word or making any move. The two officers stared at each other, finding themselves in an apparent quandary. Then, one of them struck a truculent attitude and roared, "Don't you get what we've just said? Or, do you want us to haul you up before the council? Just leave, will you?"
Lauren could never forget that phone conversation she had just overheard. She gritted her teeth in fury and bellowed, "If I can't get this work done, I won't get paid! Feel free to haul me off, then! It's no longer my responsibility if you took me away!"
For a split second, both of them stood in daze, for they were caught in a real dilemma.
Immediately, the younger one of them waved his traffic control baton and said, "Do you think we dare not do so? We shall first detain you for two days and fine you 200 dollars!"
The man yelled at her, but his legs were still glued to the spot, standing as still as a statue.
"You either let me distribute the flyers, or you can haul me away!" Throwing caution to the wind, Lauren decided to ascertain her suspicion.
Her sheer stubbornness left the two outraged officers red in the face. In just a second, the younger one of them with youthful vigor reached over and took away her flyers.
"Let's see how you're going to distribute without the flyers."
"What are you doing?"
Their physical altercation threw the colorful flyers all at once to the sky, and they came down like snowflakes, scattering all over the ground. Lauren bent down and tried to pick them up while her eyes reddened.
"You b*stards holding candles to the devil..."
"How dare you scold me?"
Out of spite, one of the men trampled on the flyers forcefully for some time before Lauren got up and gave him a hard push.
"Why can't you two be more sympathetic? I just simply want to earn a living! If you didn't snatch them away from me, there wouldn't be any trash on the streets at all. The citizens of Casterwich City aren't as immoral as you both!"
In fact, there were already street sweepers taking care of the cleanliness there. As for those who were really not interested in the flyers, they would throw them into the trash can themselves. Everyone had been obeying the order, but why on earth must the two of them choose to be troublemaker making the fur fly?
If she didn't know it, she would have thought that they were in fact so mean. However, right then, Lauren just felt so disgusted with them. What means had Willy used to make them into such allegiance? This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
All of a sudden, she stumbled and fell down, at which the two men were startled. After exchanging glances with each other, they took another step forward, but with an obvious decrease in their loftiness then.
"Are you done with scolding us? If so, get out of our sight or we'll take harsher actions if you carry on like this!"
"Indeed, indeed! We don't want to make things difficult for you, so do us the same favor too, please!"
As they were intensely arguing, more and more onlookers gathered around them. Fearful of making things worse, both of them started panicking. "Miss, leave quickly, I beg you!" One of them pleaded.
Since it seemed that all their words were to no avail and she was being such a center of attention in the middle of the road, subconsciously they thought of pulling her aside. As soon as their hands touched her arm, Lauren cried out, saying, "Ouch, keep your hands off! My tummy hurts, it really hurts! I'm pregnant..."
Upon hearing that, the two men were greatly frightened as they staggered and took a few big steps backwards. Somehow, one of them even stumbled over something and slumped to the ground.
At that time, a larger crowd had been attracted from around the place, and the situation became even more uncontrollable with people whispering to each other.
"What's happening? Why can't you talk to her nicely? Are you bullying even a pregnant lady?"
"It's indeed tough for her... After all, she isn't selling anything against the law. Why can't you all bend the rules just a little for her? How can you have no sympathy at all? It's so hard to find a job now!"
"Hey, just stop meddling in! It's not like what they said would be executed. Let's all try to be more
understanding!"
The situation was a little out of control and clearly the two officers were insecurely lacking direction. Both of them passed the buck to each other as they nudged each other, but did not dare to make any move.
"This can't be true! Shall we call an ambulance?"
"How would I know? Report it, then!"
The two muttered to each other and finally one of them turned around and took out his pager.
Soon, some other officers came to
net
help. They first dispersed the crowd and then, they got a doctor from a nearby medical clinic. When the leading officer was about to let the doctor check on Lauren, she
inadvertently looked up and
Willy by the roadside, tasaw
to a city
council officer.
In a fit of anger, Lauren rushed to him and ranted, "Willy, you b*stard! You're an animal!"
Lauren gave him a heavy push. Her eyes were seen red from crying.
"Are you the one who asked them to drive me away from distributing flyers here? What does my job have to do with you? Why are you so against me? Why did you do this to me?"
Well, she just wanted to be independent by earning a living on her own. Why must he ruthlessly take the bread out of her mouth while he himself lived a luxurious life? What a cold blooded brute he was!
Despite knowing she was pregnant with his child, he still treated her as such. It was truly inhumane of him!
Looking askance and coldly at her, Willy was still holding grudges against her. Seeing how cold she was to him then and recalling her intimacy with another man, he got even more upset.
"No reason. It just makes me happy! Are you satisfied with my answer?"
Wh... what?
Lauren's eyes were still teary. She was stunned for a while, couldn't process her thoughts.
Meanwhile, Willy glanced sideways at the city council supervisor.
"Go and put up a sign. In the future, no more distribution of flyers is allowed here! If anyone still insisted on distributing, there's no longer a need to chase them away, but a
doubled fine will be sent to the
company! When the contract expires, there will be no discounts, and we will stop renting to them!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Willy just walked past her.
"Yes, sir!"
Lauren felt a buzz in her head. Streams of tears began to trickle down her cheeks. She picked up the flyers in her hand and furiously slammed them
on his broad shoulders.
"Willy, you are an absolute b*stard..."
Letting out a loud screech, she felt sudden throbbing cramps around her stomach. Gasping, Lauren collapsed in a heap.
"Oh, my tummy..."
What was going on?
The pain she had earlier was a pretense, but at that moment, the pain was real. She trembled at the piercing Cramps and broke out in a cold sweat. She held her stomach and began to feel so nervous that she could not help sucking her teeth.
"Oh no, my baby..."
