Chapter 20 He Likes The Little Surprise
Her voice was loud enough to draw the attention of others around.
Estella walked away with her head lowered to implement Nancy's order.
Edison was sitting there like an emperor in flesh, with a beautiful, delicate-featured, and demure woman in his arms. They made a perfect match together.
It was a large couch but became their exclusive booth because people didn't dare get closer.
Everyone kept a distance purposefully.
As CEO of the Yates Group, Edison Yates, twenty-five years old though, was quite sophisticated in doing business, and infamously cruel. Whoever related with him, no matter what standing they were, had to respect him somewhat.
At the party, all the models and actresses Nancy had invited were a bunch of third-tier or even the last tiers. Such girls all wanted to catch up with Edison if given a chance. Too bad, he brought a date and had a tangled history with Nancy. Even if they desperately wanted to hit on Edison, they didn't have that courage.
"Mr. Yates breaking up with Nancy Shandy through public announcement, the news has been a hit on Twitter these days. Now he brings no gift but a pretty date to the party. Hard to say he's not gonna embarrass Nancy."
"How he's sitting is obviously an offense."
"Who's that woman? Have you seen her before?"
"No."
...
Gwenyth Lovelace was an ordinary woman, an outsider of this social bubble. It was normal that no one knew who she was.
She had to pretend peaceful under all those gazes of enmities.
But such an event made her very uncomfortable.
Good thing was that she needn't do anything but sit next to Edison Yates as a quiet bimbo.
"How long will we stay here?" she asked in whispers. Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Since it was Nancy's birthday party, perhaps she shall wait until Nancy cut the birthday cake.
"Getting bored already?"
Edison laid down his eyes on her and pull her closer to him with the arm on her shoulders.
She lost her balance to the pull and buried her face in his chest, where she smelt slight tobacco.
He was a smoker but didn't stink. Instead, she could breathe in hints of peppermint.
She didn't get to choose whether she could leave, for Edison was in charge of this. But with nothing to do, she had to sit through all the measuring eyes over her from head to toe, feeling like a monkey entertaining tourists in a cage.
"I'm bored."
She replied, summoning up her courage.
Edison brought her here just to embarrass Nancy, but Nancy, not even feeling awkward, was enjoying chats with her friends.
Only Edison was sitting here, isolated, lost all the limelight.
"Well, now that you're bored, let's bail."
The man stood up with his arm on Gwenyth's shoulders still and helped her stand up from the couch.
As she stood steady, his hand ran down and pat her on the butt.
This sudden move pushed her a step forward and brought a hot flush to her cheeks.
"..."
She took a look back at him, and he squinted his eyes into a smile, reflecting the shimmering lights like a universe. He seemed in a good mood.
"Your body is quite soft."
Every part was soft and touched well.
He reached out a hand quickly to put around her waist, leading her out.
"Eddie!"
Seeing him leaving, Nancy was too panicked to care about her image. She trotted, with both hands lifting the frills of her dress, her feet in a pair of stilettos, to get in the way of Eddison and Gwenyth.
"You haven't tasted the cake yet."
Still squinting his smiling eyes, Eddison looked at Nancy's upsetting face and, showing all his good moods, chuckled, "My girlfriend felt bored. I'm taking her back to do something not boring."
Nancy knew exactly what his words meant.
The pills she meant for Edison went wrongly to Gwenyth, who had some flush on her cheeks but didn't lose control yet.
But soon, this woman would be hurling her body onto Edison's.
"Eddie, today's my birthday. Could you please eat some cake before leaving?"
She couldn't force Eddison, so she made her tone tenderer to plead.
"Happy birthday, and, I like the little surprise you prepared for me."
The sentence contained more meanings, which Nancy understood but Gwenyth was confused about.
She looked at Eddison in bewilderment and couldn't remember seeing any surprise Nancy prepared for him during the sitting next to him.
"Let's go."
With an arm wrapping around her waist, Eddison stepped straight forward.
Nancy in their way stepped back some distance, but she didn't want them to leave like that.
Eddison frowned and said in a cold voice, "Move."
It angered Nancy into quivers.
Edison Yates didn't give a damn about Nancy's feeling in front of so many friends of hers. On top of blatantly bringing a date to the party, he even deliberately let Gwenyth drink the "surprise" she prepared for him.
He was taking Gwenyth back, saying they were gonna do something not boring. She was no fool. She knew exactly what he meant.
But she doubted if he had the heart to do something to Gwenyth.
Gwenyth was no more than a strange woman to Eddison, a guestroom waitress, way beneath his social standing.
"Eddie, could you please calm down?"
Every man and woman was watching all of it.
They were witnessing how inferior Nancy was acting at this moment.
They all thought Nancy was irritated by the date Eddison brought with him and that she was doing this to win him back, but only Estella knew Nancy's true purpose was not to let Eddison take Gwenyth back at this point.
The guards were on standby, the Estella didn't have the chance to cause the scene.
Nancy was losing control of everything, hence her panic.
Estella was getting anxious, too. She looked around, and while everybody was paying attention to Nancy, she grabbed several glasses of wine and pour them onto the curtains. Then, she found a lighter and ignited the alcohol-stained curtains.
The flames were growing fast.
After putting the lighter back in her pocket, she screamed, "Fire!"
Everyone here was startled.
Nancy paused for a moment and looked over in Estella's direction seeking the sound. Eddison caught the moment and took Gwenyth to bypass her to the outside.
She started chasing Eddison and eye-gestured to two guards when seeing them standing outside.
But the moment the guards intended to block Eddison and Gwenyth, people swarmed out of the door because the fire grew big and ignited the whole curtains.
The two guards were bumped down, rolling on the floor.
Nancy was hit down by a male model, one of her front teeth knocked off, and her gums streaming blood.
"Nancy!"
Estella cried out.
Eddison looked back, only to see Nancy lying prone at the door with one hand covering her mouth, red fresh blood oozing out between her tender fingers and dropping down.
He stopped and found people at the back lines not noticing Nancy lying on the ground. They all stepped on Nancy one by one. He immediately pulled open the door to the car and stuffed Gwenyth in.
Before Gwenyth realized it, she was in the car, and then Eddison slammed the door closed.
He ran back, striding hurry steps onto the flight of stairs, and pushed away everyone around Nancy to embrace her up from that awkward position.
