Chapter 10
Chapter 10
I won't regret it "Here you are…"
Kaden walked in with a brown paper bag in his hand.
He made his way toward me and finally acknowledged the man who was still looming over me even though he had taken a step back.
"Hey, man."
Kaden nodded to Kristian and then came straight for me.
"How are you feeling?"
"Worse than before." I replied honestly.
He chuckled and gestured at the glaring man behind him.
"Is he grilling you about your profile?"
Looking over his shoulder, he said to Kristian, "I gave her the job, Kristian. So rest easy, she's good."
I didn't know tionally ignoring it or not seeing that his every word was making Kristian's jaw clench.
Turning to me, he held out the brown bag and a medicine strip.
"I bought you coffee and a few painkillers for your headache."
"I don't-"
"She doesn't drink coffee."
I winced at the way those words whipped at my skin, but I was surprised that he remembered.I conjured up a smile for the kind man in front of me who was starting to look confused and aware of the tension in the room, and took the medicine from him.
"I will take this.Mr Aaron hadn't helped with my headache."
Enough with saying everything that comes to mind, Elsa.I think it would be good if I fainted again. What do you think, almighty? Kaden shot me a smile.
"He's got a stick up his arse." I snorted.
Tell me about it.
"That's enough."
His word sliced through the air.
"There's no socializing in the office, you know that, Mackenzie. So stop fawning over the new employee, maintain the professional distance. You are her boss."
Kaden stood up and winked at me then turned to face Kristian.
"I know your stupid rules, Kristian. And, I am not her boss."
He pointed at the file on his desk.
"You are her boss, so all the rules apply to you."
My eyes went to that file now.
And before I could think I stood up and picked up the file.
"I don't think there will be any problem with this.I am quitting."
Both the men turned to me.
Their collective gaze made me nervous, I gripped the file tightly.
I said, "I will just go.I don't think I can work here."
I didn't take one step before the world tilted and a strong pair of arms grabbed me, settling me back on the chair.
I blinked up at Kaden and said, "Thank you…."
It's thank you, Elsa.He grinnėd.
"You really need to rest, pretty girl." I smiled at him and caught the thunderous look on Kristian's face.
"Kaden.I think you should leave, you have your own department to look after.Leave Now."
"You are behaving more intolerable than usual."
He gave a long glance at Kristian, looking at him up and down.
"Kristian, I know you don't like anyone getting personal in the office, but come on, she's sick and she needs someone to look after her."
"So what, you have appointed yourself as her big brother?" Kristian asked, his voice low and flinty, threatening almost.
Kaden scoffed.
"You know it isn't it."
"Um… You know, I am still here…"
I mumbled, trying to break whatever that was going on between them.
"Leave, Mackenzie. And leave my fucking employees to me."
Did he just hiss those words through his teeth? Kaden turned to me, squeezed my shoulder and said, "Call me if you need anything."
And then he walked out.
Just as the door closed behind him, Kristian picked up the brown bag and walked to the bin at the corner of the room and dropped it in it.
"Go home, Elsa.We will talk tomorrow about what I'm going to do with you."
That sounded ominous.
"No."
I shook my head.
"No.Like I said, I am quitting."
I garbled the words.
But he understood them, he pointed at the file I was still holding.
"You signed your employment contract yesterday and I signed it just now which sealed your fate, Elsa."
"What do you mean?"
Please God, don't let it be something I can't get out of. Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Pretty, please.
"You are legally obligated to work here one month before you submit your resignation letter and it would be two weeks before you are let go."
He captured my chin between his forefinger and thumb, this tone gentle as if I was something precious to him.
How deceptive.
"And you just admitted that you need a job.Think about your mother."
God!! To think I went every Sunday to Church and prayed.
I focused back on him, I would have my conversation with God later, now I have to deal with this devil with his exotic eyes.
"I am not going to come back here.I know you hate me."
There was that tiny flicker before it was gone and replaced with ice.
"And you also know me."
He leaned closer, his breath feathering on my lips as he spoke, "Intimately. So you know, that now I have got you, I won't let you go."
He trailed a finger down my cheek.
"You know it would be better for you if you come back here on your own.You have a debt to settle."
"What if I don't?"I asked, my voice soft and small.
"You won't do that."He seemed so sure as he said that.
"You know you have earned it.And like a good little girl, you will come back for your punishment."
"You are sick!"
His eyes sparked as he said, "You will know."
"I am not coming back!"I stood up and pointed a finger at him.
"I know you are angry. And I know you meant your threats.I want to tell you why I did what I did but it won't matter. You are stubborn arsehole and you will not stop until you ruin my life even if you end up regretting it.So just let me go.It would save both of us the heartache and remorse."
"You are right. It won't matter to me what you say.Whatever elaborate lies you have keep them to yourself.Secondly, yes I will ruin you just like you ruined me.Thirdly, you are wrong.I won't regret it.I was waiting for you to fuck up and come in front of me and you did, so now it's time to face the consequences for the lies you told five years ago."
He grabbed a fistful of my hair and tugged my head backwards.I blinked at the pain and tried to not cry out.
He gritted out, "Your little whore arse would pay for everything your lies cost me.And you will come tomorrow, because if I had to come after you, you won't like it."
He pushed me away with a disgusted twist of his lips and said, "Get out.And say hello to Mrs Huxley, will you?"
