Chapter 225
Janice's gaze softened, a faint blush coloring her cheeks. Without another word, she turned and walked away.
But just as she reached the door, she paused and glanced back. "Edward."
Adjusting his tie, Edward looked up, meeting her eyes.
"You're not in this alone anymore. We'll face it together."noveldrama
She had no idea how much those words meant to him.
Edward lingered in the conference room for another 20 minutes, lost in thought. For the first time, Janice had told him he wasn't standing alone.
If Matilda heard that, she'd probably think, "I guess that makes me a placeholder, then!"
Over the next week, Greenfield City buzzed with activity as seamstresses from out of town and Solterra poured in. With the new year underway, job seekers flooded the market.
Now, as several major companies ramped up hiring, the city had become the beating heart of a crochet renaissance. A craft that had once seemed to fade was now thriving again.
"Prosper Stitch Group, Onley Group, Melody & Loops Creations... and some company called Legacy Twine—they're all hiring."
Seated on a bench along the bustling street, a group of seamstresses scrolled through job listings on their phones.
"Legacy Twine is offering such a low salary-only three thousand dollars a month."
"Legacy Twine?"
"I've never heard of that company."
"But look at Prosper Stitch Group! Their salaries are insane! As long as you pass the interview, the base pay starts at 12 thousand dollars. Some seamstresses there made over 40 thousand dollars last month with commissions, and the top earner even broke 70 thousand dollars!"
"Prosper Stitch Group only cares about one thing-skill. The better you are, the more you make."
Unbeknownst to them, Legacy Twine was a newly registered company under Simon's name.
While Prosper Stitch Group was overflowing with applicants, Legacy Twine's office was eerily silent.
Despite the situation, Simon remained unbothered. After sending out the
recruitment ads, he casually relaxed in the newly rented office, sipping his tea and smoking a cigarette.
Why wasn't he worried?
Because he believed his offer was competitive-a "generous" three thousand dollars a month.
In his mind, that was more than enough. When he first founded Refined Threads Co. years ago, the base salary had been just 1,200 dollars, and seamstresses had still lined up for the job.
What he failed to realize was that the industry had changed. Eight years ago, crochet was a dying craft.
As the newly appointed HR director of Legacy Twine, Elsie had spent the entire morning waiting-yet not a single applicant had walked through the door. Growing impatient, she went to find Simon.
"Simon, it's been hours, and no one has shown up for an interview. We've had a few phone inquiries, but none of them sound committed."
At the moment, Legacy Twine only had 20 seamstresses. They were employees Elsie had transferred over from Arthur's company. But with no orders coming in, they were essentially being paid to sit around.
Simon, however, didn't seem the least bit concerned. "Relax. They'll come."
Elsie hesitated before addressing the elephant in the room. "Prosper Stitch Group just announced a hiring campaign. Their base salary starts at 12 thousand dollars a month."
"What?"
Despite his initial shock, Simon
quickly let out a derisive laugh.
"Janice is out of her mind! I always knew she had no business sense, 1 don't care how much money
Prosper Stitch Group has-offering a 12-thousand-dollar base salary is pure lunacy."
Elsie remained silent. The more she listened, the more convinced she became
that Simon simply wasn't cut out for business.
He stubbed out his cigarette, his expression darkening. "Besides, she has already poached so many of my seamstresses. What more does she need?"
Elsie was about to reply when Simon continued, his voice dripping with arrogance. "She must have found out I started a new company. This is just another one of her games. She's stealing talent to get my attention!"
What do you think?
