Chapter 30
Chapter 30
"You slapped me for no reason, and you tried to hit me with your car. Shouldn't you apologize to me? I'm the victim." Lizbeth bit her lip and her eyes were full of tears. She looked very miserable.
It was lunchtime, and many employees were walking in and out. Quite a few of them stood aside to watch——
"Mrs. Johnson tried to hit someone with her car? Isn't she too evil?"
"What do you know? Miss Byrd likes the CEO, so Mrs. Johnson doesn't like her. She's certainly jealous!"
"Regardless, she shouldn't slap someone, much less hit someone with her car! That's illegal!"
Hearing everyone's gossip, Lizbeth had a proud look in her eyes, but she put on an even more miserable expression. "I admit that after Arthur thought you died, he did like me. But you didn't come back even after five years and no one knew you were still alive. You're actually the one to blame for this!"
Clap! Clap! Clap!
Lucy chuckled and nodded while clapping. "We haven't met in five years, and your skills at manipulating the truth have improved."
Everyone was stunned. Could there possibly be a different side to the story?
She continued, "Miss Byrd, since you said that I tried to hit you with my car, then why aren't you injured
at all? Could you have an invisible shield protecting you?"
The crowd burst into laughter and many people pointed at Lizbeth while gossiping.
"Lucy, many people witnessed you trying to hit me with your car that day!" Lizbeth's face was flushed, but no one knew whether it was out of anger or embarrassment. "Besides, it was two weeks ago. My injuries have healed!"
Lucy let out a long "oh" and smiled charmingly. "I tried to run someone over with my car, but I didn't manage to kill her or even cripple her... I'm just too kind!"
At that point, who could possibly still not get it?
Everyone looked at Lizbeth with disdain, then left in twos and threes to eat.
"You..." Lizbeth pointed at her, but she was tongue-tied for a long time.
How had Lucy gotten so much better at manipulating the truth after five years? What a b*tch!
Lucy stood up and looked down her nose at Lizbeth. "I'm doing very well, so I won't trouble you to bother about me. Also, it's rude to point fingers at others. I'm very forgiving, so I'll let this slip. Others might not be the same, so be careful, Miss Byrd!"
It had been five years. Did Lizbeth really think she was as easy to bully as before?
"Lucy, what are you doing?" Right then, a pleasant yet angry voice sounded out.
Lucy turned around and looked at the handsome stranger. Her gaze fell on the mole near his eye.
He was quite handsome, but he looked like he hated her very much!
"I'm talking to Miss Byrd. Can't you see that?" Lucy asked.
Lizbeth hurried up to Jenson and let out her pent-up woes, her eyes red-rimmed. "Jenson!"
"Everything is fine, I'm here. Don't be scared." Jenson hugged her and patted her back. His gaze was gentle, the direct opposite of the furious way he looked at Lucy.
Lucy was speechless at their sudden display of affection.
Actually, she was repulsed!
She looked at the time and thought Arthur must be down for lunch soon, so she gazed towards the CEO's elevator attentively.
"Lucy!" However, Jenson blocked her sight. He threatened her with his magnetic voice, "Apologize to Lizbeth!"
"Excuse me, but why should I apologize?"
"You bullied Lizbeth, so you should apologize to her!"
Lucy glanced at Lizbeth, who was on the verge of tears in Jenson's arms, and smiled plainly. "I think you should go get your eyes checked."
When had she bullied Lizbeth?
Was he blind?
Being mocked in public, a shadow came over Jenson's eyes, and he looked sinister.
Just as he was about to say something, Lizbeth, who was in his arms, suddenly pushed him aside and ran in the direction of the CEO's exclusive elevator. "Arthur, I specially prepared your favorite food."
Lizbeth's shove was so sudden that Jenson was caught off guard. He staggered and fell to the floor.
He clenched his fists tightly, his attractive eyes full of disbelief.
Lucy shook her head. It seemed like he was just Lizbeth's plan B!
Perhaps it was his one-sided love that struck a chord in her, but Lucy stepped forward and reached out a hand to him.
When Arthur looked towards her amidst the crowd, he caught her right in the act of reaching her hand towards another man with a smile.
Her hands were slender and beautiful, but at that moment, the sight hurt his eyes.
Bitterness and envy filled his chest, and he forced down the urge to walk up and hug her. He strode out
of her sight.
Like Chad had said, he would only start to appreciate her when she was hard to get!
"I don't need an evil woman like you pretending to be kind!" Jenson's handsome face was masked with disgust, and he pushed himself off the floor with one hand. He was looking at Lizbeth.
Lucy sighed. That was what she got for being kind. Then, she walked off to look for Arthur.
However, he was right in the middle of the crowd, and he did not even spare her a glance. Holding Lizbeth's thermos, he walked outside with everyone following behind him. Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Lizbeth followed after him happily, but she made sure to turn around and send Lucy a proud, mocking smile.
Lucy thought that she had already let it go, and she wouldn't feel anything even if that happened.
However, when she saw Arthur and Lizbeth like that, all the unbearable memories of the past flooded her mind. She felt as though her wound had reopened, and the pain was agonizing.
Since he liked Lizbeth, then why was he forcing her to reconcile?
Was it because she had called for the divorce and trampled on his dignity?
"Just give up. Mr. Johnson will never love an evil woman like you, nor will any other man!" Jenson mocked her and walked off casually as if nothing had happened.
Lucy tightened her fists bit by bit. She stood there in a daze for a while before walking back to the waiting area. Arthur would return after his meal, so she would wait for him there.
"Mrs. Johnson, I'm going out for lunch. Do you want anything?" The receptionist felt bad for Lucy. She was married to Arthur, but Arthur had shamed her with another woman in public.
"No, thank you." Lucy smiled. Her dimples appeared, making her look very charming.
The receptionist admired her beauty and felt even more sorry for her. Why wouldn't Arthur appreciate a gorgeous woman like her?
...
Lucy waited there until three o'clock in the afternoon, but she still didn't see Arthur.
"Mrs. Johnson, I bought an extra portion. Here, have some." Ms. Wood, the secretary, put a box of sandwiches on the table. There was something she just couldn't understand.
It was a kind gesture for Arthur to send Lucy food, but why didn't Arthur allow her to tell Lucy?
Lucy was indeed hungry. She thanked Ms. Wood, and when she opened the box, she was stunned.
They were all her favorite!
