Chapter 20 She Would Not Let Anyone Off
Chapter 20 She Would Not Let Anyone Off
Margery was very proactive and got down to work immediately.
After making arrangements for Ethan and Bonnie to go to a kindergarten nearby, Margery spent nearly a month renovating the hospital. She asked Zola to come back and continue to manage the finances for her.
When Zola saw Margery, she was shocked and incredulous. "Margery, you... What happened to you?"
Margery could not help but clench her fist. She sighed lightly and said slowly, "I was in a car accident and burned my face. After plastic surgery, I became this way."
"That must have hurt so much!" Zola felt distressed.
"After going through pain, it doesn't hurt anymore."
Grief flickered in Margery's eyes.
Raising her hand to touch her face, she felt a touch smoother than before, which made her narrow her eyes.
Five years had passed, and her body and face had recovered and became fairer and more delicate than before. But every time she touched her face, she could still feel the scorching feat and the sting of the raging fire burning on her skin.
The despair of being unable to protect Andrew was something that she would never be able to forget in her whole life.
Andrew was such a well-behaved and thoughtful baby. He was innocent yet he died in the fire and would never be able to call her mommy again.
If it were not for Ethan and Bonnie in her belly, then she would have joined Andrew in death the moment she learned that Andrew had passed away.
Looking back made Margery's face tense and blank.
Zola was taken aback and quickly apologized, "Margery, I'm sorry for bringing up the past! But life will be better after hard times. You'll have good luck in the future."
"Probably," Margery chuckled lightly, not expressing an opinion.
She was a person who had died once. She did not care about her luck in the future and only wanted to raise Ethan and Bonnie safely.
As for those who hurt Andrew, she would not let anyone off!
With Zola's help, the hospital was quickly renovated, and doctors and nurses were recruited and ready for work.
Everything went smoothly for Margery until she needed to apply for a business license.
At the Health Bureau, Margery was very confused when she was coldly rejected by the staff at the counter. "My documents are complete, and my IDs are all here. Why can't you issue a license for me?"
"I don't know. It's an instruction from the higher-ups."
An instruction from the higher-ups?
Margery was slightly depressed and subconsciously thought it was Golden's fault.
Then she realized that it was impossible!
She just returned to H City, and within a month, she changed her face. No matter how powerful Golden was, there was no way he would know that she was her.
Margery thought about it but could not think of anyone who would deliberately make things difficult for her, so she walked out of the lobby and called Melvin.
On the other end of the line, Melvin immediately became furious. "What? They wouldn't issue a business license? No, it's impossible! I bribed each and every one of them ten days ago, and they all agreed to it at the time. Margery, wait for me. I'm going to head over right now and teach them a lesson."
"Not yet. I'll see if I can get it done."
Margery frowned slightly and hung up, thinking about what went wrong.
Since Melvin bribed them already, no one would refuse to issue the license and risk offending the Collins family.
In other words, since they dared not issue it for her, the person in charge was not afraid of offending the Collins family at all.
It was probably someone who did not get along with the Collins family. Two families had a conflict, and she was caught in the crossfire.
Thinking of this, Margery stood in front of the staff's counter again and asked politely, "If the higher-ups don't agree, I won't ever obtain my business license, right?"
"In principle."
"Then tell me who the person in charge is, and I'll go find him."
Margery's voice was cold. She was confident and frightening. The staff was scared and reflexively pointed to the left. "The first office behind the door. Mr. Lau."
"Okay."
Margery took a deep breath and walked over quickly with a stack of documents in her hands. She knocked on the door politely and watched as the middle-aged man behind the desk spoke. The other party only made a few casual remarks asking her to wait without providing any further details.
"Then... okay. Please process it as soon as possible, Mr. Lau. Thank you."
Margery walked out of the office and had no choice but to sit on the green armchair in the lobby and wait anxiously.
Feeling irritated, she habitually pulled on her hair, messing up her long black hair.

When Golden came out of the director's office and walked to the lobby, he saw a woman he had met once in that warm city in the south half a month ago.
Just because that woman was so beautiful that she shone.
Under the crystal light, her facial features were charming and beautiful, but she did not care about others' gazes as they were breath-taken by her looks. She only focused on herself as she pulled on her long hair with irritation. She frowned, and her red lips pursed slightly. Her conflicted expression was extremely similar and made him feel as if he was looking at Margery from five years ago.
Obviously that woman was no longer there, and he was indifferent to her in their marriage, but her past micro-expressions were imprinted in his memory and still fresh on his mind.
He glanced to the side a little, looking deeply at Mr. Lau, who had just greeted him warmly from the office, and asked casually, "What's wrong with her application?"
Everyone came here to apply for a business license. Based on her anxious appearance, she must have failed.
Hearing this, Mr. Lau was stunned and immediately smiled. "Mr. Barrett, this is what's happening. There is no problem with her application, but she was introduced by Melvin. There used to be conflicts between my old man and the Collins family, so... But don't worry, Mr. Barrett. We'll still process her application, but it'll be delayed by ten days to half a month." © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
Golden understood and asked more casually, "Do you know her name?"
"I know, Margery... Margery Byrne! Yes, that's the name, that's right."
"Her application. Do you have it here?" Golden's expression remained unchanged, but his almond black eyes immediately narrowed.
No one knew that the word Margery was like a booming thunder that cracked his heart and caused stormy seas underneath his icy facade.
"Yes! Wait a moment, Mr. Barrett. I'll bring it to you right away."
Mr. Lau ran into the office and quickly ran out again. Ignoring the cold sweat on his forehead, he handed over the information in his hand respectfully. "Mr. Barrett, all the information is here."
Golden nodded lightly and gracefully took it with two long fingers. He glanced down at the applicant's name and the photo, which was a face completely different from Margery. After a while, he said, "Process it for her if there's no problem with it! I owe you a favour."
