Chapter 88
Hellios POV
Helios. - Ezequiel reached out as I was getting everyone in position before Gonzalo and Kassie arrived.
We're busy. Can this wait? We have to make sure we don't miss them arriving. I reminded him. That's what I need to tell you. He said, making me pause.
What do you mean?- I asked.
Kara talked to me before we left. There's some stuff you need to know about tonight - he said.
And you couldn't tell me this earlier? - I asked, rubbing my forehead. The headache I already had intensifying at the mention of my sister's name.
I couldn't. You know there are rules. I couldn't risk you telling Gonzalo or Kassie. - He pointed out.
I ran a hand down my face. f*****g rules. - Tell me.
No matter what is happening tonight, we need to make sure Gonzalo marks Kassie during the peak of the full moon - he said
Why? What's happening during the peak? - I asked.
It's the only chance for her wolf to break through. He said, matter-of-fact.
Wait, w-what? I stammered.
I should start at the beginning. Dario is not just any wolf. He is our brother. - He explained.
Our brother? Which one? - I asked.
Quetzalcoatl - he answered quietly. Guilt crashed into me instantly.
Why didn't you tell me? - I asked angrily.
It was his choice. He wanted you to be able to forgive yourself first. - He said.
I had nothing to say to that. I knew most of the wolves would be those we killed, but I...he was my brother. He was not just any casualty of war. He was one of the first I personally hunted and killed. He had felt the full weight of my wrath. When I killed him, I was still grieving my mother. It was not a merciful killing. I had tortured him and bled him dry over the course of days.
I was angry that they'd kept that to themselves. I deserved the chance to apologize and beg for his forgiveness. I forced myself from that line of thought. There are more important things to deal with right now. Kassie. How do we help Kassie? - I asked, barely able to contain my anger.
Selene broke some rules. She made a new wolf spirit just for her. It was the only way to save Kassie's life at the time. A werewolf can't become a vampire, and a vampire can't become a werewolf, but a vampire isn't exactly incompatible with werewolf DNA. Selene worked it so Kassie would slowly turn into a hybrid. Her mind has been creating the space for her wolf over the last two decades. - Ezequiel said. That explained the seizures, maybe. - But even then, a werewolf can't exist without a wolf spirit. That's why the experiments never worked. They tried to play with what they did not understand. Kassie got a new wolf merged with the spirit of a goddess. It was the only way to make sure both her and the wolf would survive the transformation. But she's been trapped for 23 years in the recesses of Kassie's mind while Kassie's mind transformed to accommodate them both. She's been slowly getting stronger, but her wolf needs Dario's mark and Selene's help to push through the block in her mind.
Her spirit, who is she? - I asked, not sure I wanted to know.
Mayahuel He answered.
I don't remember killing a goddess with that name? - I said as I racked my brain for the name.
You didn't kill her. She was Dario's consort. She was killed by her own parents when they were found together. She agreed to come back down to earth only if Dario was her mate. - Ezequiel said calmly.
I took a deep breath at this revelation, a part of me was glad I wasn't responsible for the suffering of yet another wolf. - What happens if Dario doesn't mark her?Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
She could die. I'm not sure Mayahuel is strong enough to break through on her own. - Ezequiel warned.
I cut off the mind link and told Sebastian to get close. When I watched Gonzalo see the colibri, I gave my signal to attack. I sent up a quick prayer to my sister for help before I jumped into the chaos of the fight. Whatever happened, I would not let my brother or my best friend lose the love of their lives once again.

*Gonzalo POV*
I walked forward a little. There was a low mist around my ankles and darkness all around us, but it stopped a few feet ahead of me before there was only a white floor, white walls, a white ceiling. It looked like a blank movie set. The only thing inside was her. The beautiful all-black wolf with the red eyes.
I looked down at Dario, who was wagging his tail, his eyes stuck on the beautiful black wolf. "Mate" he said, rushing forward and slamming into an invisible field. "Mayahuel (Maya-uel)," he said desperately.
I made eye contact with the red-eyed wolf. I also felt the connection. That same connection I had to Kassie. "Mate" I said and walked forward a little more.
She smiled at both of us, "Mates," she said. She walked towards the invisible barrier and tried to rub against Dario, who did the same.
"You're Kassie's wolf? The experiment worked?" I asked, still not believing what was happening.
"No. The experiment would have killed her. Selene and I made a deal. If she gave me a wolf spirit to be mated to Dario, I could save Kassie, but it would take time. This form...it was new. It was weak. I'm still a little weak. I need your help." She explained. "The mark." I said and she nodded, "How can we help now?" I asked.
"I need your strength. Come around to this side." She said as we walked towards the left side of her prison.
I couldn't see her once I went around the wall, but I could hear her and I could see the light seeping through the cracks in the walls. In the middle were two giant holes, where I could see her beautiful fur as she walked up and down. There was a sudden thud and another crack appeared. "Help me. Selene brought you in here. We only have 5 minutes to break this. Once the peak is done in a few minutes, you'll be pulled out of her subconscious and I won't be able to break through."
Dario walked back and crashed against the wall. I looked around. There was nothing I could use to break through, so I also took a few steps back and rammed my shoulder against the wall. When a few of the cracks connected to each other and one of the holes, I stopped and started using my hands to make the hole bigger while Mayahuel and Dario kept pounding the wall. I started feeling a pull in my abdomen and started panicking. It was the same feeling as getting pulled from Celeste's vision. We needed to hurry. Mayahuel, try to squeeze through - I yelled as I tried to reach for her. She put her face through the hole but her body was stuck. Dario crashed again and a small chunk fell, but he started to float as he was being pulled out of Kassie's subconscious. Nooo. Mayahuel. - He roared
I started feeling the same pull and desperately, I wrapped my arms around her.
No. This can't be it. Push! - I yelled at her. My body hit the wall as I refused to let go of her and I heard her whimper sadly before I heard a crack and everything went white again and I found myself holding the unconscious body of my mate while the world appeared to be collapsing around us. I shook her limp body in a panic.
"KASSIE. WAKE UP. WAKE UP BABY! MAYAHUEL! PLEASE I NEED YOU! DARIO AND I NEED OUR MATES." I yelled as I heard Dario howling inside me.
Her eyes fluttered open. One eye was violet, the other red. "Mate" she and Mayahuel said. I couldn't stop the strangled cry of relief that left my throat as I felt tears of relief fall out of my eyes. "Mate," I whispered back as I put my forehead to hers. "Nice of you to join us. Hate to interrupt, but mind giving me a hand?" Sebastian yelled from in front of us. He was fighting off three guards that kept trying to get to two of our men behind him.
"Adrien?" I said out loud as I recognized his body on the ground with Elias' wolf standing over him protectively while growling and whimpering. He had been the one that jumped down to protect me when I marked Kassie, but what the f**k was he doing here and why was he unconscious? As if reading my mind, Sebastian provided the answer to at least one of my questions.
"Yes, he just f*****g dropped shortly before you came to. I don't know what's wrong with him." Sebastian yelled as he ducked from a punch.
"He's getting his wolf." Kassie said as she stood up and grabbed the discarded sword next to him. She knelt down next to him and grabbed Elias' fur to look at his eyes. "Stay here. Your presence will help. He will be alright."
She came back and kissed me hard before saying "Protect our child. I'll take care of this."
Oh no she won't. Let's try some of our new powers. Our women won't see us cowering while they take care of business. - Dario said. - Let's see what our new powers are. He finished, his tail wagging excitedly.
