Chapter 15
Chapter 15
Before Dorian could speak, Gisele, who had been about to leave, turned back with a smile.
“Ms. McMillan, if I were you, I’d be running straight to the hospital for a shot. Those high heels have clearly done a number on your foot.
“With the show only two days away, it might be best to get your foot checked at the hospital. You wouldn’t want to end up in a wheelchair, would you?”
Sierra’s face turned pale, and she subconsciously retracted her foot.
Dorian immediately scooped Sierra up bridal style, his stern face softening with a touch of tenderness. “Don’t be afraid. I’ll go you to the hospital.”
with
“Thank you, Don.” Sierra nestled into his chest, her smile sweet and radiant.
Gisele stepped aside to let them pass but ended up getting bumped by Dorian’s arm.
A sharp pain shot through her shoulder. Gisele stood motionless, her gaze fixed on the spot where Dorian and Sierra had disappeared.
Only when the sound of the front door closing echoed through the house did her tears silently trickle down her ch*eks.
She had known this scene would happen, but her fragile heart still ached uncontrollably after experiencing it firsthand.
Gisele dragged herself back to her room with leaden feet and collapsed onto the bed in
silence.
As she drifted in and out of sleep, the shrill ring of her phone pierced the stillness. She fumbled groggily for her phone and answered.
“Gigi, are you still at Jefferson Manor? When are you coming back?” Angie’s worried voice. came through the phone.
She sighed deeply as she spoke. “You shouldn’t continue dealing with the Meyers. They never cared whether you lived or died but demanded such an unconditional sacrifice from
you. It’s utterly heartless.”
“What did you find out?”
Angie was hesitant to tell her the results of her investigation. “The Meyer family’s business
is in deep trouble, Gigl. Their latest financial reports show they’re losing a ton of money.
“Even if the batch of medicinal materials held by Jefferson Group makes some money, it won’t be enough to plug the hole in the finances.”
Gisele’s mind raced with questions. Where had the Meyers been funneling all the money they had made from Jefferson Group over the years?
Why did they seem like an insatiable vold, constantly demanding more?
“Gigi, you’re still in recovery. Wouldn’t it be better to come back and recuperate first? Angie persuaded her.
She recognized that Gisele’s prolonged stay at Jefferson Manor was detrimental to her well- being.
With a gentle tone, she suggested, “Once you’ve fully recovered, you can deal with them however you see fit. Is that alright?”
Gisele gulped as tears welled up in her eyes uncontrollably.
“Sure, I’ll return home after I finish recording the show on Monday. Grandpa Declan keeps a close eye on us, and I can’t bear to upset him right now.” Gisele managed to get the words out. Her voice was hoarse.
Angie’s eyes flared with anger as she immediately became furious on her behalf.
“His own grandson doesn’t hesitate to hurt his feelings. What can you do as a daughter–in- law with no blood ties? That bastard, Dorian, is simply exploiting your love for him!”
“Calm down. Let’s go shopping after recording the show on Monday,” Gisele said, stopping Angie from saying more.
Angie sighed. “Alright, then. Take care of yourself.”
After hanging up, Gisele curled up on the bed, lying in just a corner of the large bed, looking sadly lonely.
Her phone pinged with a notification. Upon seeing the message about a bank deposit, Gisele’s emotions were momentarily soothed. © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
The reason she had deliberately set a trap for Sierra was driven by a dual motivation. She had wanted to make some money and give Meyer Pharmaceuticals free advertising.
For two whole days after Dorian had whisked Sierra away, Gisele remained confined to her
room.
Chapter 15.
During this secluded period, she sought out the detailed profiles of the elderly participants in the forthcoming program. She also utilized the time to immerse herself in the study of various pills and medicinal concoctions.
On Monday morning, Gisele was dressed in a sleek, sporty outfit.
Her graceful waist and impressive figure were accentuated by the tight vest.
The golden ratio of her body, complemented by the close–fitting and soft fabric, was displayed perfectly, leaving not an ounce of excess fat in sight.
Gisele stood on the side of the road with her backpack, looking at Dorian and Sierra, who
were in a car.
“Get in the car,” Dorian said in a cold voice.
Gisele wanted to refuse, but Dorian’s next words rang out. “Do you want to be scolded by Grandfather? Then, go get a cab right now.”
Gisele pursed her l*ps, took the initiative to open the car door, and sat in the back seat. Thanks. Let’s go.”
Dorian glanced at Gisele in the rearview mirror. Her skin was as white as snow, and her delicate features were mostly obscured, but he could see the tenderness in her clear eyes.
She really didn’t hesitate to treat him like a chauffeur!
“Gisele, we have five esteemed veterans joining us today, each with their own tales of pain.
Have you
read their profiles yet?” Sierra enthusiastically handed her the information from the passenger seat.
Gisele glanced up briefly, recognizing Sierra’s attempt to show Dorian her kindness and willingness to move past their differences.
“No worries. I’d already received it from Mr. Murray,” Gisele replied, looking away at the passing landscape outside the window.
She smiled softly as she said, “Are you fond of cramming at the last minute, Ms. McMillan?”
Sierra’s face fell, and she awkwardly retracted her hand, which was hovering in mid–air.
Dorian’s warm, large palm enveloped Sierra’s small one. He then said in a cold, domineering voice, “She’s just a passerby. There’s no need to be so kind to her.”
Sierra looked deeply hurt and nodded obediently, then remained silent.
Gisele turned her head to the side, feeling tired. Just as she turned to face forward, she met
Dorian’s eyes in the rearview mirror. It was a look that seemed to blame her for making his beloved cry.
Gisele swiftly averted her gaze, pretending not to have noticed his stare.
They pulled up outside Hearthfield Grand East Care Center. The black Maybach glided smoothly into the parking lot.
Gisele stepped out into the serene surroundings first, where nature’s breath was fresh and
inviting.
After a thorough security check of their belongings, they were allowed into the center.
Bernard and the crew were already waiting for them.
Upon spotting Gisele, Bernard rushed toward her eagerly with breakfast in hand. “Gigi, have you had breakfast yet? If not, why don’t you eat something before we start filming?”
“Mr. Murray, is this your next girlfriend?” Sierra was dressed in a white dress. She wore mid -heeled leather shoes on her feet, and her long, black hair cascaded down her shoulders.
Standing in the sunlight, she looked just like a young, fresh graduate out of college.
Dorian’s cold and displeased gaze fell upon Gisele, and he suddenly remembered her saying that she had a boyfriend that day.
Bernard completely ignored Dorian’s sullen face, paying even less attention to Sierra, and remained attentive toward Gisele. “Gigi, sit down first. Let me tell you about the recording
process.
“We need to record for three days for this episode. Although it’s just a pilot, we’ll have to stay overnight here.
“This care center has been contracted by us, and since all the participants are elderly veterans, their safety is of utmost importance. So, there can’t be any unrelated people nearby. Do you understand?”
Gisele nodded, peeling a hard–boiled egg while listening to Bernard.
Left out in the cold, Dorian watched them laugh and chat. A twinge of displeasure crossed his heart. His chest tightened even more at the thought of Gisele’s gently peeled egg possibly going to Bernard.
When Gisele finished peeling the egg, Dorian quickly walked over and snatched it. He then swiftly stuffed it into his m*uth..
Gisele watched in astonishment as Dorian devoured the egg in one rude gulp. Was he that hungry?
Suddenly, a soldier rushed over and said, “Mr. Murray, we found contraband In Ms. Meyer’s luggage. Please cooperate with us for inspection.”
