Chapter 23
Chapter 23
“Gigi?” Bernard leaned in and looked at her dainty face. Her eyes were still shut.
Her lashes were full and curled. The pair of attractive eyes that constantly brought hope to others were squeezed shut. Even though she was ill, it didn’t affect how beautiful she was.
At that moment, she seemed to be battling nightmares. A few minutes later, she opened her eyes with some difficulty.
“Dorian… Mr. Murray?” Gisele looked at him with her eyes glazed over.
Bernard immediately reached for the call button upon seeing that she had woken up.
He exhaled in relief and said, “You’re finally awake, Gigi. We were afraid you were going to

your brain off if you had stayed unconscious any longer.”
She let go of his hand and forced out a smile.
Bernard’s heart ached at the sight of the forced smile on her pale face.
a
“Sorry for making you worry.” Her hoarse voice sounded as bad as a broken drum.
He poured her a glass of water. She gladly accepted it and finished it all in one gulp.
The water soothed her lungs, which were aching because of her high temperature. She laid back down on the bed and thought about the situation at the care center when she had left. the day before.
She said hesitantly, “About the care center…”
“Mr. Doug is dead,” Bernard said calmly.
Gisele’s eyes widened abruptly. “Is that true? How could that happen?” she exclaimed in
disbelief.
Bernard was just about to nod his head when the doctors and nurses swarmed into the hospital room. After some checks, the doctors confirmed that her fever was indeed going down.
Subsequently, the police stepped forward and spoke to her.
“Ms. Meyer, a murder took place at 7:00 pm last night at Hearthfield Grand East Care Center. We found your fingerprints at the scene of the crime and suspect that you’re involved in it.
“Please cooperate with our investigation. No matter what the truth is, we will not wrongfully accuse anyone, but we won’t let the culprit get away with it either.”
After the police officer finished talking, the room was so silent Gisele’s rough breathing nould be heard clearly
A moment later, Gisele nodded. “Alright, thank you”
She still had a fever. It made her head heavy, and she struggled to keep her eyes open. Nevertheless, she tried her best to do so anyway.
Worried, Bernard furrowed his eyebrows and suggested, “Why don’t you take her statement after her fever subsides? She can’t escape even if she wanted to anyway.”
He then added, “Besides, the autopsy would probably take a while as well.”
“You have a point, Mr. Murray, but the current situation is incredibly disadvantageous to Ms. Meyer. I’m afraid the longer we wait, the fewer details she’ll remember about the scene.
The police were also looking out for her best interest.
Pulling herself together, Gisele nodded weakly at Bernard. “It’s okay. I can give a statement right now.”
As she had difficulty moving about, the police had Bernard leave the room so they could just question her in the room.
Bernard paced along the corridor restlessly.
Who could possibly use such foul and dirty medicine?
At the moment, everything pointed to Gisele as the culprit. However, there was no animosity between her and Collin. How could this have happened?
Just as he was thinking of calling Dorian, his phone rang.
The director of the show asked nervously, “Mr. Murray, news that we put the pilot episode. of the care center show on hold has been leaked. Should we inform the PR team?
His eyebrows knitted together, and he replied calmly, “Didn’t I lockdown all the news?”
“It was Ms. McMillan.” The director immediately fell silent and awaited the upcoming storm.
Bernard stilled. Then, he hung up and swiftly called Dorian.
The second the call connected, he asked impatiently, “Doge! Did you get Sierra to leak the news about the care center?”
The culprit hadn’t been determined yet. But even if it were Gisele, shouldn’t Dorian be protecting her as her husband?
In that split moment, Bernard felt incredibly sorry that Gisele had such a cold–hearted man for a husband.
