Chapter 3
Title: Let’s get married
Maybelline Walter POV
“Are you going to keep living like this, May? You need to tell Mr. Miles what happened and find a solution to this,” Lily suggested when she walked in on me again wallowing in thoughts. My life has been in a state of mess ever since I discovered that I was pregnant.
“It’s been two weeks already. You can’t keep this a secret forever,” Again, Lily uttered as she finally sat beside me on the bed and held my hand.
“I don’t want to tell him…”
“Then what do you plan to do? You can’t take care of yourself all alone. He needs to take responsibility for what happened. I mean…”
“How am I supposed to tell him? That we had a nightstand at the club and I got pregnant for him? Does that even make any sense to you, Lily?” I cut her off, and she sighed briefly.
“All I’m saying is that…”
“I’m off, Lily. We’ll talk when I get back,” I stood up from the couch and picked up my phone from the center table.
“Where are you going?” She asked as I advanced toward the door.
“Just going to take a walk,” I replied to her then pulled the door open.
“Without me?”
“Yes. I want to be alone,” And with that, I stepped out of my room and headed out of the house.
I strode aimlessly down the road, trying hard not to burst into tears. Where should I start? How was I supposed to deal with this? I was just an orphan of both parents that didn’t have a family to rely on except for my best friend that had been there for me all these years. How was I going to handle this?
My thoughts were disrupted by the sound of my ringing phone, and checking to see that it was Mr. Miles, my heart skipped a beat.
“Why is he calling me? It’s weekend today,” I mumbled and swallowed nothing nervously before I swiped the answered button and held the phone to my ear.
“He… hello, Sir…” I tried not to stutter, but I ended up doing it, anyway.
“Let’s meet. I’ll send you the address,” Those were his only words and the call ended. My phone beeped almost immediately that the call ended, and an address popped on the screen. It was an address of a fancy restaurant in the town.
“Why are we meeting on a Saturday?” I muttered, looking at the screen of my phone. Did he find out about the pregnancy? I asked myself, but no way that could ever happen, right?
Scared and curious, I boarded a cab that took me to the address he had sent to me, and I was stunned when I saw his car already parked in the parking lot. Is it that serious?
“Take a chill pill and relax,” I said to myself just before I walked inside the restaurant and found him seated at the far end. He was looking good as usual.
“Good day, Sir,” I greeted him when I walked over to him.
“Hmm. Sit,” He gestured coldly toward the chair in front of him, and I nodded and sat on it.
“What would you like to have?” He asked without any hint of emotion in his voice.
“Nothing. I’m fine,” I replied to him, and he nodded.
“Uhm… Is there any problem, Sir? You asked to see me,” I asked curiously and he breathed out.
“I need a favor from you, May,” His voice softened a bit, but not too soft to convince me that he wasn’t grumpy.
“A favor?” I asked to be sure I heard him correctly because I was sure that I could never render him any help let alone doing him a favor. After all, he had everything.
“Yes…”
“Uhm… What is it, Sir, if I may ask?”
“Let’s get married,” His reply left me frozen on the seat and I stared at him for the next few minutes, trying to process what the fuck he just said.
“Hu… huh?”
“I will pay you any amount you want, just name your price. Let’s get married,” He said for the second time, and I scoffed unbelievably because this didn’t make any sense to me.
“It’s a contract marriage, and we are going to get a divorce after three months, so you have nothing to worry about…”
“I’m sorry, Sir… But I’m not interested,” I quickly declined his request before he could finish his explanation. That didn’t make any sense, and there was no way I was ever going to do that.
“Five million dollars. I’m paying three million here if you agree, and I will forward the rest of the payment during the project,” He offered me the irresistible mouth-watering money, and even though I was tempted by the money because I had never seen such an amount of money before and probably won’t see it anytime soon, I would still not do it.
“I’m sorry, Sir… But I can’t do that no matter the amount of money you are…”
“Ten million dollars, May…” My jaw dropped and my eyes narrowed when he said those words to me.
“I will pay you ten million dollars for this if you agree. You don’t have to do anything. All you will do is live with me as my wife for three months, and we can get a divorce after then,” He tried to sound convincing, and I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t convinced by the sound of the money already.
“Uhm… Why are you doing this, Sir?” I was forced to ask.
“It’s confidential, so I choose to keep it to myself. Are you going to do it?” He further asked, his eyes piercing into mine and I swallowed nothing.
Slowly, I rubbed my hand on my stomach and bit my bottom lip. This was going to be a win-win game for me. I would get money from him and who knows, maybe the support I need even if it was not going to last long. With the money, I could quit working as his secretary after the divorce and start a new life, give my unborn child the happy life he deserves, and I’m sure I would be happy being a single Mom.
“Won’t he find out about the pregnancy while you two are together?” My subconscious mind asked me, but I was sure that it would never happen. My stomach would still be flat like a normal person’s in the first trimester, so no way he would ever find out.
“Uhm…” I paused and sighed briefly, not knowing what to say because I barely had anything to say.
“I will do it,” I could swear that his face was laced with a smile. Something that was just happening for the first time since I knew him.
“Thank you so much, May. You are such a lifesaver,” I had never seen my boss so happy since I started working with him, and that made me even more curious about why he was doing this and why it was so important to him.
“Let’s sign the contract tomorrow and you can move in with me the next day,” He uttered, and my eyes narrowed.
“In two days?” I blinked my eyes rapidly and he nodded.Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
“Yes. Do you have a problem with that?” He asked, but I slowly shook my head.
He took his phone and started to press it, and minutes later, my phone beeped and I hesitantly checked, but I gasped when I saw the alert I just got. It was an alert of eight million dollars. He was damn serious about this.
“I will send the rest of the payment after two weeks of the marriage,” He stated, and I couldn’t deny the excitement I felt in my heart.
He dropped a black card on the table and pushed it to my front.
“The pin is my date of birth. You can get whatever you want with the card. Get new dresses and the things you will need while at my house. You will be in trouble if you spend more than you should,” He stated coldly, and my eyes narrowed. It’s crazy how my life just turned around.
“Alright, Sir,” I took the car excitedly.
“I will send my driver to come pick you up tomorrow for shopping and after that, we can sign the contract and you’ll move in the next day,” He further explained, and I slowly nodded, hoping this would turn out to be the best decision I’ve ever made…
