Chapter 910
In no time, a tall figure approached her from behind. Suzanne turned and offered him a respectful nod. "Master." The man's rugged features carried a chilling aura.
"Connor's already got his eye on you. When did you lose that pearl earring? You don't even remember, do you?"
"You've really botched this."
A flicker of panic danced in Suzanne's eyes. "I messed up, but it's just an earring.
All he has is suspicion. He won't find any real evidence."
"Your mission's done here. It's time for you to move on."
Suzanne nodded. "I'll head to the States soon."noveldrama
With that, he turned and walked away.
As Suzanne watched him leave, she straightened her posture. Honestly, she had
no reason to fear him. Technically, she outranked him. But his aura of wild authority was enough to make anyone hesitant to meet his gaze.
Claire was laid to rest that very day. The Sartori family remained eerily silent. Marian, overwhelmed by grief, had fainted several times and was now in the hospital. Valeria and Madison stayed by her side. Jeffery had locked himself away, and the staff mentioned he had burned his beloved chess set. Despite the many descendants in the Sartori family, no one dared to speak out.
Pax attended Claire's funeral with a quiet presence, fulfilling his role as her son. Even though everyone now knew Connor was also Claire's son, Pax continued to act as her brother, now and forever.
Once the dust settled, the main
Sartori family estate felt especially empty. Almost everyone was staying in the main house that day. Jeffery didn't come down for dinner, and the butler said he had gone to the chapel again. Pax was also absent. Chloe had noticed he hadn't eaten in days and remained silent.
After dinner, Connor headed to the study, looking deep in thought. Chloe say him on the phone with Kash, aware they were digging into the forces behind Paradise Island. She decided not to interrupt and planned to head back to her room. As she passed Pax's room, she saw the butler with a tray of food.
The butler sighed, "Young Master Pax hasn't eaten in days. This can't go on."
Chloe took the tray from him. "I'll take it to him." The butler was relieved; he'd been bringing food only to see it untouched each time.
After he left, Chloe knocked gently before entering. Pax wasn't in the room; he was out on the balcony, curled up in a wicker chair, arms around his knees. The evening breeze was strong, tousling his hair, but he wore only light clothes.
Hearing the door, he didn't turn, only said, "Mr. Butler, I'm not hungry. Please leave."
Chloe didn't leave. She stepped onto the balcony with the tray, setting it down on the small table next to him. Pax looked up, surprised to see her. "Chloe..."
