Drawn to You: The Billionaire’s Second Wife

Chapter 17

Vanessa sat on a chair very close to the door, she had all her mind on her cellphone that she couldn’t notice Chloe’s presence.

The little girl stood at a place staring at her not until she coughed slightly, her familiar voice drew Nessa off her thought, she looked sideways to see Chloe standing.

“Oh my God! For how long have you been here sweetheart?” She asked her to draw her closer to herself. “I’m so sorry I didn’t notice you were here.” She added not letting the little girl reply to her question.

Chloe stood in between her legs staring at her cellphone. “Good afternoon ma’am Vanessa.” She greeted her.

Vanessa glanced at her and smiled, “Good afternoon dear, how were your studies today?”

“Not good at all, you spoiled my mood in the morning. After all my pleadings, you didn’t consider that I’m a sweetheart and you persisted in not taking me to school.” She sniffed covering her face with her two palms. “If not dad, I wouldn’t go to school today.”

“I’m so sorry for that.” Vanessa pleaded. She had known that the little girl must be upset with her, but then she was still so sad about the incident that occurred the past day.

“So, dad took you to school today huh?” She asked her. Chloe nodded slightly.

“After I explained everything to him, he persisted in taking me to school himself, and then I would come to stay with you once I’m back from school.” She narrated carefully.

Vanessa affixed her eyes on the phone screen, “I’m sure you’ve taken your lunch right?”

“Yes, but I want a cupcake. Dad gave me some money to get one for myself.” She started and handed the money over to her.

Vanessa stared at the money and smiled widely. “This exact money is the reason your stepmother wants me punished by your father. She accused me of what I know nothing about and I sank into despair last night.” She folded it and got on her feet.

Chloe couldn’t keep her eyes off her, she had known that she would pass through much pain last night. But then, it’s all her fault.

She was too lazy to get the money off her pocket… or rather, she forgot. All this while, she had known that Lilian hates her babysitter and is ready to do anything just to make sure she’s out of their home.NôvelDrama.Org is the owner.

Vanessa returned to her with the cupcake and got seated again. She grabbed the cake from her and began gobbling on it.

“The cupcake is with you here, you don’t need to rush,” Nessa commented. She smiled at her and offered the cake to her so she would take a bite.

She shook her head. “Have it all alone.” Chloe shook her head.

“I’ll dispose of it if you don’t want to have a bite, just a bite pleeeeease.” She pleaded.

Vanessa noticed how serious she is and had a bit just like she wanted. That alone made her so happy.

************

“Get me all the files here and now,” Xavier ordered his secretary. The young-looking lady left his office immediately to get the file as ordered.

Xavier had noticed how the gorgeous lady had been flirting with him all this while, but he overlooked everything.

She is assiduous in terms of working, and so kicking her out of the company might be his loss. All he had decided was never to give her a dime.

Never will he go on a date with any of his female workers.

The doorbell rang and the lady dashed in with the files on her palm. She handed them over to her and stood aside staring at him.

Xavier began going through the files serially checking on the activities done within the month.

“Nice work. Any application from anyone?” He asked her while on his feet.

She narrowed her eyes for a while and shook her head. “Not at all Sir, but the manager said you don’t need a worker for now.”

“That means lots of applications have been coming but they’ve been rejected huh?” His eyes widened. Sure, had made the order a long time ago, but had changed his mind because of a worker.

The secretary shivered, she knows how irritated her boss always felt and he doesn’t take it with anyone when he’s annoyed.

“Yes sir. Sorry about that, I’ll start accepting work applications.” The lady assured him.

He shuddered while glaring at her. “Leave my office, and send me the manager.”

The lady dashed out of the office in great fear, she doesn’t like it when her boss is annoyed to avoid yelling at her.

She had loved Xavier from the first day she stepped her feet in the company. Then, she wasn’t aware that the man he was crushing on is her CEO, but she can’t do otherwise.

Several times, she had tried to kick him off her mind, but couldn’t. Everything about him gladdens her heart.

Xavier is that CEO that doesn’t take trash from any of his workers. He doesn’t owe them, rather he adds more cash to their salary. And with this, his workers don’t think of leaving his company despite how rude he is.

Precisely, they’re aware that their boss isn’t that way at first. His rudeness and arrogance began from the day he lost his wife. That day seemed like hell to him, he couldn’t believe all that happened in reality.

The doorbell rang again drawing him out of his deep thought, the familiar voice of his manager made him lift his face upwards.

The young man got seated opposite him.

“You stopped the secretary from accepting work applications huh?” He asked him.

The manager wasn’t ready to say a word, he had expected him to ask how he was doing and coping with work too.

Gosh! That question has departed from his lips for a long time. He forgot to remind himself of that.

Xavier is no longer that man who cares to ask about one’s wellbeing, though that doesn’t stop him from being caring.

“You ordered me not to some months ago, sir.” The manager replied.

He glared at him and hissed. “After I gave you the order, I told you of a worker that I’m about to sack, and so, you shouldn’t stop accepting work applications.”

The manager furrowed his brows and then nodded. “I can remember vividly Sir, sorry for that please.” He pleaded.

Xavier took a deep breath through his nostrils, he sighed and lifted his shoulders then let them down again.

“It’s okay, but please don’t reject any applications again.” He remarked to the hearing of his manager.

The young man who had felt his heart beat increasing fell at place instantly, he never knew his CEO would look off the issue so easily.

That’s so unusual of him.

“I’ll be leaving now, take good care of the leftover works.” He said to the manager who was on his feet already.

He nodded. “Trust me to give you the best, sir.” He assured him and left afterward.

Xavier glanced at his ash jacket hung at a side in his office, he moved closer to it and had it on. He arranged the desk and got the files arranged too.

He grabbed his cellphone and suitcase and then left the office.

One of his workers sighted him and grabbed his suitcase from him, he glanced at him and smiled.

He left for the car and placed the suitcase on the seat. “Have this.” He handed the worker a $5.

“Thank you so much, Sir, I appreciate it so much.” The young man greeted him, he stood watching his boss as he drove off from the company.

***********

Xavier arrived home to get Tracy and Ben seated at the veranda, they both had that rigid expression on their faces revealing that they aren’t feeling okay.

He walked towards them.

“Hi kids, why are you all seated here? Hope all is well, and where is Chloe?” He asked them.

Tracy got on her feet and took the briefcase from him. “We aren’t fine Dad, and Chloe left her babysitter since she came back from school.”

He glanced at Ben who wasn’t saying a single word, he only stared at the floor.

“Ben, you aren’t gonna welcome Dad today?” He referred to his son.

He lifted his face to him, twisting it the more. “Not until you kick that lady out of this house.”

“Why? What happened? Did it offend you?” He threw multiple questions at them all at a time.

Tracy got seated again. “Yes dad, she offended us. Your so-called fiance ate the whole food but couldn’t prepare any for our return.”

“You mean, you all have been starving since you returned from school including Chloe?” His eyes widened out of shock.

Ben nodded. “And she isn’t showing any care at all. I believe Chloe must have taken lunch with her babysitter.”

Xavier heaved a big sigh, he dashed into the sitting room and climbed the stairs. Starving his children is one thing he doesn’t tolerate.

He twitched into his bedroom to get Lilian arranging her belongings in the handbag she came with.

That was damn shocking.

He approached her, gripping her waist. “What’s going on Lilian? You’re leaving?”

She turned to him. “Of course I am. And trust me, Xavier, I’ll never set my foot here until you accede to employ me in your company as the manager. In addition to that, forget everything about me…”

He let his lips agape, a scorching heat enveloped him instantly. This is getting the other way.

Great confusion befell him, he doesn’t know the action to take.

Is it about his starving children? Or he should look off it and stop Lilian from leaving first?.

But then, her request is so difficult to look into. Giving her the position of the manger huh?.

His palms transfixed on his waist.
