Chapter 26
Xavier had an outgoing personality. Without waiting for them to agree, he casually sat down at the table.
"You guys probably don't know this, but Natasha and I were classmates. We were even in the same project group, and I was her apprentice."
He draped his arm around her shoulder, but Natasha quickly shrugged it off with a look of disdain.
"Didn't I tell you before? Don't go around telling people you're my apprentice. You're lazy and clumsy, always messing up the experiments."
Their relationship was a bit complicated. It wasn't quite a master-apprentice dynamic, and their friendship wasn't especially deep either.
But if she had to pick someone she got along with during university, Xavier would definitely be at the top of the list. With his easygoing nature, he could probably get along with anyone.
While they were chatting, Natasha noticed someone sneaking around outside.
"I'll be right back. I need to use the restroom," she said.
As soon as she said that, Xavier teased her. "No way, after just a few years, your tolerance for spice has dropped?"
Suppressing her urge to hit him, Natasha quietly slipped out through the back door.noveldrama
"Mr. Foster, we haven't eaten all day. There's so much good food here..."
Julian couldn't resist the temptation. The aroma of sizzling burgers and crispy fries hung in the air behind him, while the crackling of grilled sausages and shrimp nearby made him swallow. The sizzle of cheesy mac and cheese on the griddle seemed to stir his soul.
"I didn't expect to find you working here, Mr. Foster," Natasha said.
As Natasha walked up behind them, Julian immediately fell silent.
She was incredibly familiar with this area. It was near the university, full of street vendors and small boutiques that girls loved.
None of the restaurants within a two-mile radius would appeal to Zachary, given his high standards. So, Natasha had a pretty good guess. He was probably planning to acquire this entire area.
After all, someone as influential as Zachary wouldn't be caught eating street food with Julian.
It was hard to believe, and Natasha didn't quite believe it either.
"Oh, Ms. Bradley, you were right. Mr. Foster and I are here to check out the area for a potential shopping mall project," Julian said, following her lead.
Natasha didn't call him out on his line.
"If you need help with anything, just let me know. I know this area well," she offered.
After all, Zachary had helped her multiple times, so helping him during this inspection was the least she could do.
"How's the spicy seafood boil here?"
Ten minutes later, Natasha called out, "Excuse me, can we get an extra chair and some more utensils over here?"
Someone responded, but no one came to set up the table.
So, Natasha decided to take matters into her own hands, easily walking to the
back and grabbing a fresh set of plates and utensils.
The others looked at Zachary with bewildered expressions.
After all, in a place this full of grease and grit, a man standing ramrod straight in a custom-tailored suit was bound to turn a few heads.
"Alright, come on, sit down and eat. The flavors might all be similar, but you need to try it yourself to know."
She picked up a piece of shrimp from the spicy seafood boil and placed it on his plate. Xavier pulled him over to join them, their heads nearly touching in an intimate gesture.
"Wait a minute. Where did you find this guy, Natasha?" Xavier muttered, annoyed. He hated people dressed in suits who seemed too rigid; they were usually either hard to approach or way too picky.
"Stop complaining. I'm treating you to dinner. Don't be so picky."
She had worried that Zachary might not enjoy the food. After all, he was the CEO
of Foster Group, and she assumed he might not be used to street food.
But to her surprise, when she turned around, Zachary was already expertly picking up some corn and crawfish. His tolerance for spice was just as strong as hers.
What do you think?
