Skylar fell silent upon hearing Tobias' answer. Hmph. These two are still somehow attached at the hip.
What a gentleman you are, Tobias, offering to send her home.
Tobias reached out and placed a hand on Skylar's lap. “It was just a chance meeting. It was late, so I
couldn't possibly allow her to go back by herself. All I did was drop her off since it was along the way
and I didn't go up either so there's no need to read any more into this.”
“Who knows whether it's coincidental or intentional on your part,” Skylar grumbled under her breath.
At that moment, Tobias thought this woman to be quite annoying, needing excessive explaining from
him for what was obviously a very uncomplicated matter.
Skylar fished out her compact mirror and calmly touched up the color on her own lips amidst Tobias'
steady driving.
“What were you and Thomas discussing earlier? What's with the big secrecy?” The lipstick was traced
along the flawless contours of her lips until it left a thin coat of itself upon them.
Tobias answered that a little patronizingly, “It wasn't anything important. You'll find out about it
eventually when the time is right.”
Skylar sighed softly as she found it a bit of a struggle to get any straight answers out of Tobias.
He was never one who was inclined to be open about anything, but luckily for her, she was not the type
to be obsessed with uncovering all the facts either. Fortuitously too, for she would have found herself
being stifled to death had it been otherwise.
“Next time, don't send other women home. I don't like it.” Skylar waited till the traffic light turned red
before she drew her bottom line.
Tobias' reply was surprisingly succinct. “All right. I won't do that anymore. It's remarkably useful, those
eyes of yours. Nothing seems to escape them.”
Skylar was taken aback. Is this still Tobias Ford that I'm talking to? In the past, if she were to suggest
something along that lines, he would surely have deemed her unreasonable and incorrigible.
She remained unsure as to whether he was complimenting her or denigrating her. Her eyes were about
as sharp as her nose was keen.
The radio station was playing Saorise Sheahan's song through the stereo inside the car. The
marvelous female vocal soothed like a fresh breeze and filled the air with a mellow candy-coated
piquancy that was nectarous to the men who heard it and saccharine to the women who did.
Reflexively, Skylar found herself massaging her own throat when she thought about how perfect
Saorise was and how much she herself wished that she had a voice like hers.
Easy on the eyes and a stellar vocalist with great acting chops, it's no wonder that her fans coddled her
like a little princess. I bet her fans are proud to have an idol like her.
Skylar's eyes caught a glimpse of Tobias adjusting the volume with the wrist that bore his watch.
That roused a wee bit of jealousy in her. Previously, Tobias always complained about the noise level
whenever she played music inside the car, but he would turn it up whenever Saorise's music was on
the airwaves.
It was evident by this degree of discrepancy that he seemed to enjoy Saorise's singing. No wonder the
sole brand ambassador role for promoting Ford Group's commercial plaza went to her. Meanwhile, he
never asked me to endorse anything for his company.
Skylar went on to turn the stereo off. “It's intolerable. I don't want to listen to anything.”
Her little tantrum put Tobias in a slight frown, but regardless, he said nothing in response. Well, have it
your way.
Then, Skylar started to hum a little tune on her own. To date, she had yet the opportunity to showcase
her vocal talents in any public arena. Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
The organizers did extend several invitations for her to take to the stage and perform duets alongside
male artists. Unfortunately, nothing ever came to fruition for her due to scheduling conflicts.
As far as singing goes, Skylar was not very good at it. Although the quality was there, she would not
have stood out doing it recreationally since she had not undergone any professional training.
Tobias listened in to her cover of “Sea of Stars.” Although he had no idea what the melody of the
original ought to sound like, he was positive from what he heard that Skylar was not able to stay on
key. Overall, it was hard to listen to.
After Skylar finished, she narrowed her eyes coquettishly and cast a longing gaze at Tobias, seeking
his approval. “Does it sound nice? Do I have the potential to be a top songstress?”
“You have the potential to have your throat slit,” replied Tobias humorlessly.
