Chapter 679 She Did Not Mean It
Skylar leaned against the couch and listened to the loud quarrels upstairs.
There is nothing wrong with marrying Avery to Charles. They are made for each other. Who knows?
The marriage might excite her life.
Colleen looked disappointed with Skylar's reaction. On the other hand, Skylar placed her hands on her
knees and said coldly, “Are you sad because Avery and Thomas are fighting? She is not as weak as
you think. When I was fifteen years old, she and her friends dragged me to a hotel near the school to All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
make me admit that I was a slut. They also forced me to bark like a dog. When I refused, they beat me
to the point of dying. The injuries I sustained forced me out of school for half a year, but I didn't see you
feeling sad for me then.”
Colleen was stumped and couldn't find anything to say to that.
She recalled the matter. At the time, Thomas told her that Avery was only playing around and had a
minor misunderstanding with Skylar.
She found it strange and asked Thomas why Skylar's maternal grandmother, Meredith, made a police
report if it was only a minor misunderstanding.
However, Thomas explained that Skylar and Meredith were trying to trick them into paying
compensation.
Hayden looked furious and raised his hand as if to slap Skylar.
Skylar glared at him sternly and warned, “Stop acting like a caring brother. If you hit me, I will expose
all of your wrongdoings. Do you remember how Quest Group fell into financial difficulties? It was all
because someone lined their pocket at the expense of the company.”
Hayden looked as though he had been struck by lightning. He stared at Skylar in horror, wondering
how she knew so much.
Meanwhile, Colleen was on the verge of a mental breakdown, knowing that the family was on the point
of ruin.
Upstairs, the voices of arguments became softer. Then, Avery ran out of the bedroom while Thomas
shouted behind her, “I raised you all these years. How can you be so selfish? Can't you bear with it for
a little while for the sake of our family's business? Once I've secured my position, you can divorce him.”
Avery had cried till her eyes became swollen. She never thought that her father, who doted on her,
would throw her to the wolves.
Just then, she noticed Skylar and rushed toward her like a madwoman. She even grabbed a sharp
knife from the coffee table.
Skylar did not have time to dodge as the knife slashed at her arm, causing a wave of pain to shoot
through her.
Avery managed to leave a cut on Skylar's arm. However, Skylar immediately gripped Avery's wrist with
her uninjured hand.
Avery gasped in pain and dropped the knife.
She glared at Skylar and growled, “I'm going to kill you! It's all your fault that I ended up like this.”
Skylar grabbed a few pieces of tissue from the table to stop the bleeding. As expected, no one came to
help her.
“You brought everything on yourself. I have never forced you to do anything. So I have nothing to say
to you except that you deserve it,” Skylar replied calmly.
Avery went mad and tried to attack Skylar again. Worried that something worst would happen, Thomas
immediately restrained Avery, forcing her to calm down.
Soon, the family doctor came over to treat Skylar's wound. Luckily, it was a shallow cut, so she only
suffered some bleeding.
Hayden brought Avery upstairs. Thomas feared that she would attempt something rash again, so he
had Hayden watch her.
Before long, the family doctor was done dressing Skylar's wound. At the same time, he wondered what
was going on with this family that one would use a knife to hurt another.
Meanwhile, Colleen kept pleading for Avery, saying that she only acted rashly due to her young age
and did not mean to hurt Skylar.
Skylar glanced at the bandages around her arm. “If she meant it, I would probably be in an ambulance
to the hospital by now.”
