Heartstrings on Fire (Agnes and Jared)

Chapter 893

Chapter 893

Agnes arrived back in the heartland, her recent trip to the Capital leaving her with a heavy heart but

also a glimpse of hope for the future.

She had received a piece of good news and a piece of bad news.

Yet, deep down, she knew that dealing with the Berlin issue required a long-term strategy.

She couldn't let the man responsible for her father's death get off scot-free.

But for Agnes, revenge was not the priority at the moment.

Her main concern was to get the precious Nocturne safely to Mr. Hanson's side. The sooner she could

do that, the sooner she felt she could see a light at the end of the tunnel for healing.

Upon leaving the airport, she went straight to the hospital.

Alyssa accompanied her, but she didn't stay long before she left.

Nocturne was still in a deep slumber, but his condition was no longer as critical as before.

At least his vital signs had been stable for the past few days.

He was still running a fever, for reasons unknown.

His periods of unconsciousness were growing longer. When he did wake, he had no appetite.

They had to rely on IVs to nourish him while he slept.

Even so, the poor boy had lost a distressing amount of weight in just a few days.

Agnes, seeing Nocturne in this state, felt her heart wrench with sorrow.

She remained seated by his bedside until evening fell, and that's when Jared came in.

He was taken aback upon seeing Agnes but soon entered with an even tone, “You’re back. Where

have you been these past few days?”

Agnes hadn’t told Jared about her trip to the Capital to see Mr. Hanson. She assumed Alyssa would

have mentioned it, but she hadn't. For some reason, Agnes didn’t feel like talking to Jared.

Disappointment was evident in her eyes as she looked at him.

“I don’t need you meddling in my affairs,” Agnes said tersely.

Jared could sense the icy anger and detachment emanating from her.He explained, “The reason I

didn’t tell you about Berlin is that I didn’t want to upset you. I’m as disappointed as you are about his This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.

acquittal. But without new evidence, any prosecution would be futile. So, we need to think long-term

about this.”

Was that an explanation, or just a feeble excuse?

Agnes scoffed, “Jared, do you expect me to believe that? Mr. Mansfield got Berlin off the hook, and

finding new evidence against him now is nearly impossible. Do you really think I don’t see a connection

to you?”

Jared's brows knitted together.

Agnes knew in her heart how ridiculous it all was. She pressed on, “When exactly did you find out

about Mr. Mansfield’s role in Berlin’s defense?”

Jared fell silent.

Agnes knew that even if he hadn’t known at first, being with Valeria day and night, he must have

learned about it early on. But he didn’t speak up, take action, or even inform her.

Finally, Jared said, “Agnes, I owe Valeria a lot. The Mr. Mansfield issue was a favor I owed her. Berlin is

Cilian’s only brother. Even if Valeria hadn’t stepped in, Cilian would have found a way to free Berlin.

This isn’t something we can resolve with a quick fix; we need to plan for the long haul.”
