43. That’s Thoughtful!
Braelyn’s POV
“So how should I react?” I raised my head up to give Cora a blank stare.
“I mean are you happy or are you upset?” My eyes followed her line of vision and settled on the pregnancy test in my hand. Evan had left for the office after making sure that I would take a rest for the day. I haven’t been feeling so great since this morning as well. I called Cora up demanding that she bought a kit on her way here. So now I was sitting at the edge of the bed while the two pink lines glared at me.
“I’m confused.” I honestly didn’t know how to feel.
“Things are good between you two right?” She asked after a brief pause.
“To answer your question, we are good but that’s not it. The thing is I’m not sure if I’m ready.” I tossed it on the bed.
“Are you considering an abortion?” Without answering her question, I sighed.
“Look, it’s okay if you’re considering it. Maybe it’s because I haven’t ever been pregnant or anything but I can’t relate to the how people stage an abortion as a horrendous crime of killing a child when it’s actually just a foetus.” I fell back on the bed.
“I haven’t thought so far.” My eyes were trained on the ceiling but my mind was all over the place.
“You can tell me whatever is on your mind.” She too laid down beside me.
“You know how things are right now in his family. First we got back together, then the engagement. Everything is being rushed and now this pregnancy. I- I don’t know if I want this right now.” After that we both were quiet. Cora was a good listener and that’s why I had called her instead of Bri. Besides Brae had been too busy with her college assignments lately. The silence felt comfortable.
“I would have loved to help you get to a solution but this is something that you and your boyfriend need to figure out together.” I turned around and looked at her.
“Talk to him, tell him everything about how you feel. He will understand.”

Stepping inside the room, I saw Evan sitting on the bed working on the laptop. He glanced my way once to pass a smile before turning his attention back on the screen.
“Are you feeling better today?” He asked just as I finished tying my hair up.
“Yeah. Totally and completely fine.” I ended with a nervous chuckle but he didn’t seem to be weirded out. He put his laptop aside and came behind me to wrap his hands around my waist.
“I missed you at the office.” He kissed the base of my neck, his hot breath against my skin putting me in a frenzy. I was seconds away from forgetting what was on my mind.
“I have something to tell you.” I blurted out. He retreated but not completely. Instead he put his head on my shoulder waiting for me to speak up.
“Well?” I spun around and looked at his face.
“I- uhh…wait.” I picked up the file from the bedside table. Yesterday after that test, I wanted to confirm it. So earlier today, I went to the clinic for a test.
“Here.” I pushed it into his hand. His confused gaze settled on it.
“What is th…” He trailed off. I blinked, totally freaked out at the unnerving silence that followed.
“It isn’t yours, right?” He looked up, this time his eyes wide.
“It has my name in it. So yeah, it’s mine.” I breathed out.
“This isn’t a joke or something. You’re really pregnant?” He uttered each word clearly like he was trying to make sure there was no misunderstanding. I bit down on my lower lip and nodded. The very next thing I knew was that I was in his arms.
“You’re really pregnant!” It sounded like an assurance to himself.
“I don’t believe this!” He chuckled before pulling back and staring at me. The amount of happiness that reflected in his eyes had left me dumb. I wasn’t sure what to say. So I settled on keeping shut.
“I’ll be the best Dad ever, you’ll see.” I stared into his eyes that had slightly moistened. He held my face between his palms and smiled.
“I love you. I love you so much!” I took a deep breath and smiled back.
“I love you too.”

Evan’s POV
“Careful with the stairs.” Brae looked alarmed before a look of realization fell upon her face.
“I made breakfast for us.” I said putting the plate of sandwiches.
“Where is Ammy?” Brae asked as she climbed the final step down.
“I gave her a day off but don’t worry. I’ll be the super chef for the day.” I pulled out a chair for her. She looked wide-eyed at the generously laid down table.
“Why so many options? Looks like the breakfasts in the movies.” She took a bite of the strawberry.
“Morning sickness. I didn’t know what would make you nauseous. So I kept a few options.” She stopped chewing for a second and looked at the half bitten fruit in her hand before clearing her throat.
“That’s thoughtful.” She reached for the bacon.
“You like it?” I too sat myself down.
“It’s tasty.” I smiled back at her before remembering something else.
“I got ice-cream tubs of different flavours this morning. They are in the fridge.” She looked up and gulped down the food.

“Oh I heard about this thing of having different cravings during pregnancy. So you know I got them in advance so you can have it whenever you want.” I wanted to be all prepared for everything and for that I may have searched a few things on Google last night.
“When do you think we should tell everyone about this?” She sighed and put down the spoon with a bit of force.
“I don’t know.” She got up and started leaving.
“Wait. What happened?” She abruptly spun around.
“I am tired of this baby talk. Every word coming out of your mouth since the morning is about my pregnancy. Just stop it already.” She breathed out in exasperation.
“Brae, what’s wrong?” I couldn’t comprehend what just went wrong.
“I don’t know. You tell me.” She looked pissed, about what I couldn’t yet understand.
“What do you-” I was cut off mid sentence.
“Why do you even need my opinion in anything when you didn’t bother to ask what I feel about this?”
“About what?”
“This pregnancy. Did you even think of asking me if I’m ready for this? You just assumed that I have nothing to say about my pregnancy.” She threw her hands up in the air while I froze for a second. She didn’t want this pregnancy?
“You- you want an abortion?” I pressed my lips together, feeling nervous all of a sudden.
“I don’t know yet. I am confused and I wanted to talk to you about it and find a solution.” I closed my eyes and sighed out of disappointment at myself. How could I be so ignorant that I didn’t think of what she felt? I felt guilty of being such a terrible boyfriend.
“I don’t want an abortion and I don’t know what I want and I’m probably just sounding stupid.” She aggressively wiped the few drops of tears that had escaped her eyes.
“Hey, hey, you’re not sounding stupid.” She looked up at me through her wet lashes as her lips quivered a little. I gently pulled her into a tight hug.
“I’m the one who is stupid. I should have asked you how you feel. I’m so sorry, baby.” She held onto my jacket as I stroked her hair.
“Why didn’t you tell me that you were having mixed feelings?” I gently asked. I didn’t know she was keeping all this in.
“It’s your fault.” I pulled away to look at her face.
“You looked so happy when you heard of my pregnancy and I- I didn’t know how I should say it.” She looked adorable with that pouty face of hers. I wiped the tears off her face.
“Fine. Let’s have breakfast and then we can calmly talk about it. Okay?” She nodded before a faint smile touched her lips. Before I could lean in for a small kiss, I heard a pair of heels clicking against the floor.
“Mom?”
