My godson is missing
“Antonete is striving in liquor and food industry,” said Jenica and skipped the slide to the next page. “If we want to defeat this small branch, Desmana needs to offer something that can sweep the market and catch Antonete off-guard.”
Daisy cast her gaze down while Bryce looked deeper into the presentation. They are currently in the conference room of the Desmana Group main building.
She knew that Daisy recognized her as Agent J, but the girl did not voluntarily approach her as Agent D, but introduced herself as Bryce’s childhood sweetheart who had flown to the States and had just returned to the country.
Jenica knew that Daisy went to Laguna because Agent Z assigned this task to her. That man set his eyes in Laguna because of the clues of the poisonous needles hovering above the Antonete’s branch family.
Just like what she had known before Agent Z snatched her side mission, all the clues about the mastermind of the poisonous needles are pointing from the South to the North where the capital is. So she already had a hunch that Agent Z is going to the North.
The thing she hated about that arrogant Agent Z was the fact that he sent his sidekick to Laguna after she successfully broke the relationship between the Antonete branch family and the Mondragon. Now, there’s no direct connection between the North and the South, so Jenica and Agent Z are free to do as they pleased. She knew that arrogant bastard just waited for her to act out and freeload on the aftermath of sending Bree Mondragon into prison.
Ah. What an annoying bastard!
“So you’re saying… Bryce will compete aggressively with the Antonete in the market?” Daisy clarified.
Jenica raised her eyebrows and looked at the woman. “Seems like you don’t like the idea, Miss Daisy?”
Daisy looked away. A suspicious redness appeared on the woman’s cheeks. “It’s quite good actually.”
“Since you think it’s good, you can supervise this project.”
“What?” Daisy widened her eyes and pointed a finger at herself. “Me? Supervise? Miss Jane, you must be kidding me.”
“Bryce and I had discussed this plan and we both agree to appoint you as project manager.”
“No!” Daisy frowned and looked at Bryce. “I don’t think it’s good. I’m not a Desmana!”
Jenica curled the corner of her lips. “But you are the current Vice President. Isn’t it a good reason for you to take this project? You can prove yourself worthy of that position, Miss Daisy.”
After the great purging in the Desmana Group, the position of Vice President became vacant. Bryce wanted to appoint Jenica to that position but she refused.
Bryce also didn’t want to give the valuable position to one of his family members yet, because he knew that no one’s able to hold the position that Bree had occupied for years. So when Jenica suggested that Daisy be made Vice President, Bryce did not hesitate and immediately appointed his childhood sweetheart as temporary Vice President.
Well, Daisy had the credentials for that position. She became the Vice President of a large company abroad before resigning and returning home to the country. So no one would question why Bryce gave Daisy a valuable position.
Daisy pursed her lips, crossed her arms against her chest, and looked away. “Fine.”
The smile grew on Jenica’s lips, squinting her eyes a little. She knew Daisy went to Laguna to fight for the position of Desmana Group’s Vice President. Yes, Jenica was kind to “help” Agent Z’s sidekick secure the position. And she would definitely ask that bastard to return the favor someday.
Bryce grinned and showed his support for Daisy.
…
“Do you find me attractive, Agent J?” asked Agent Z with a smile. His smile was dazzling, if not for his threatening glare.
The corner of her lips twitched. “Well, if you can retract your sharp gaze, I might consider it,” she replied and smiled back at him.
The man dropped the menu he was holding on the table and looked directly into her eyes for a few seconds. Jenica didn’t shy away from his cold gaze, but she raised her head instead — showing dominance against the hateful bastard.
“Interesting,” Agent Z said before raising his hand to call over a waiter and order.
A few minutes passed before the food were served on the table. After serving all the dishes, the waiter came out of the VIP room.
Jenica coughed a bit and said, “Now that your sidekick secured her position in Desmana Group with my help, you should repay the favor, Agent Z.”
Agent Z sneered. “Oh? I never thought one day you’ll force me to repay your uncalled help, Agent.”
Jenica’s cheeks were red with embarrassment. Of course, she knew Daisy could do the job because Agent Z won’t work with useless people. It’s just that she bet Daisy into action so Agent Z will have no choice but to repay her “kindness” and well, this bastard is still the same as always — hateful.
“Cursing me in your head? You’ve got courage, huh?” Agent Z said and took a bite of food.
Jenica smiled sheepishly. “Who is cursing you? I am happy to work with the number one agent.”
The man smiled again. “Lying between your teeth won’t make you a successful agent. It’s better to resign early than to smear HQ’s reputation with your lousy tactics.”
Jenica cursed several times in her mind but she didn’t show it. In fact, this was the first time the two of them crossed paths because of a mission. They’re both aloof agents who work in their own ways so Jenica is finding it hard to work it out with this man.
“I admit I don’t like you, Agent Z.” She breathed deeply. “But I need your help.”
Agent Z lowered the spoon and fork he was holding and looked up at her. “A top agent asking for my help? Aren’t you ashamed, Agent J?” he asked with a smile.
Jenica clenched her fist. “A few weeks ago, I got entangled with a Mafia Don. I need your help to cover me up while I work on my mission in this place.”
Agent Z raised his eyebrows at what he heard. “Mafia…” A dangerous glint flashed across his eyes. “Do you know what you are talking about, Agent J?”
“I know.” She sighed. “The HQ sent me a little detail of the Mafia Don’s wife. And I used that detail to ask for his help. Now, he is hunting me.”
A grave expression appeared on Agent Z’s face. “Did you overdo it?”
“Yes, I admit I’ve gone overboard. Although the HQ asked me to contact and negotiate with the Mafia Don, but time was tight so instead of a peaceful negotiation, I ended up threatening the man.”
Agent Z suddenly slammed the table and the cutlery jumped. With a flick of his hand, a small knife was sent flying towards Jenica.
Her heart skipped a beat for a second before she heard a ‘swish’ past behind her ear. Then she heard a crash behind her.
“You seem distracted by that Mafia’s pursuit to not notice anything amiss,” Agent Z said seriously.
Jenica quickly stood and looked at the thing behind her. She saw a corpse of an assassin lying on the cold floor. The dead body was wearing a mask and had a mark on his neck. And she’s too familiar with that mark — the notorious mark of Jared’s group. She clenched her fist. Someone was listening to their conversation!
“With your carelessness, it seems like this matter is quite serious.” Agent Z stood and approached the corpse. He spread a white powder over the dead body and it all gradually melted including the corpse’s clothes and devices.
Jenica sighed. “He’s sending a master to tail me,” she said, pertaining to the Mafia Don. “The HQ might not know about this.”
“Don’t hope for the HQ’s help this time, Agent J. They won’t interfere when it comes to the Mafia.”
Jenica frowned. “Why?”
Agent Z did not answer her question and walked out of the VIP room. “Do your mission and I’ll take care of the Mafia Don,” he said before finally leaving the room.
Jenica closed her eyes and massaged her temple. She didn’t notice anyone else inside the VIP room. Why? Is her skill deteriorating?
She took her phone out from her pocket when it vibrated. Her assistant sent her a picture of her husband Alex and his fiancee Gia walking in the outskirt of the capital.
But they’re not the ones that caught her attention. Jenica squinted. A little boy was captured sitting on the edge of the elegant establishment. His clothes were full of holes, his hair was long, and his face was dirty.
But even with his appearance, Jenica couldn’t be mistaken. That kid looks like Shamrock!
What’s more, Alex seemed like he didn’t recognize the child near him. She cursed her husband in mind, but thinking back, she failed to show him a picture of Sham. Jenica touched her forehead in distress.
She frantically called Renato’s number but Alex’s assistant was not answering the calls. Alex’s number was out of reach so she had no choice but to call her assistant.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
“Agent J,” greeted her assistant.
Jenica sighed secretly. “Any news on Alexander Fuego?”
The assistant was silent for a few seconds before answering, “The acting CEO is still in power and Mr. Fuego hasn’t made a public appearance in the past months.”
“Oh? How about the picture you’ve sent recently?”
“It was taken in the capital’s suburbs by one of our spies. Mr. Fuego took Miss Antonete in the suburbs to buy a birthday gift for the Fuego’s Old Madam’s upcoming birthday party next month.”
Jenica pressed her lips together. She clenched her fist. “Send me the exact location where the photo was taken.”
“Agent J, I know that you have personal business that you need to solve but the higher ups are worried that you’ve taken a lot of time to do the mission. The head agent is asking me why your progress is slower than the other Agents who were deployed in the country with the same timeframe as you.”
Her jaw clenched. “I know what I’m doing. Don’t worry, I won’t do unnecessary moves and expect fast progress soon.”
“That will do. Good luck, Agent J.”
Jenica hung up the call and bitterly smiled. She made the right decision to clean up the Desmana Group on her own. With the eyes of the HQ staring at her every moves, she’ll be questioned if they knew of her identity as Code X.
Now that Agent Z is here in Laguna, it will be easier for her to clean up the Antonete branch. In the coming days, she’ll overturn Antonete with the help of the Desmana Group and after that, she’ll punish the Desmana clan who bullied her.
But for now, she can’t rest until she finds the boy in the picture. Should the boy be her son or not, she must find him!
She drew a breathe. Her hands and feet were tied to her mission, especially now that Agent Z’s watching her every move and the Mafia Don is chasing after her.
Jenica feels so powerless again, even if she has multiple secret identities that everyone will die to have for.
With a resolute gaze, she called the person she knew could help her find the boy in the photo, even if things will only complicate once that woman will step foot in the country again.
“Carol, come back and help me find my son,” Jenica said.
Yes. She’s asking her only friend and Sham’s favorite godmother to fly back to the country. Carol, the only woman who stood for her when her husband failed to protect her five years ago.
“Jenica! I have waited for months before I received your go signal to come back. But why are you calling me now?!” The woman cursed like there’s no tomorrow. “So is it true that f*cking husband of yours is getting engaged? After five years and after you’ve birthed his son, he can’t keep his pen*s in check? Wow, he’s a piece of sh*t that even my mother wants to flush in the toilet!”
“Calm down,” she snapped, grimacing at the woman’s words. “Didn’t your doctor ask you to control your blood pressure?”
“My dear, Jenica. If only I had known that you were so obedient, I wish I wouldn’t have joked about you marrying that dying scumbag!”
The corner of her lips twitched. “I know, I know. It’s my fault. But Sham is missing and it’s not convenient for me to look for him now. Can you come back and help me —”
“What the hell! My godson is missing?!”
