After observing the situation, Seth had a pretty good idea of what was happening.
Henry piped up, “Mrs. Guerra, I see some truth in your words, but after all, you and Mr. Guerra are divorced now. He’s not here at the moment, and all we have is your side of the story. What if he returns to find no payment made, potentially damaging the company’s reputation? How would we handle that?”
Henry had been counting on the kickbacks to cover the losses. Now, he was unable to get in touch with Dillon, and the Lanister family had redirected their funds. If he couldn’t secure the partnership with Riveron Corporation, his misdeeds were bound to be exposed.
Lysander glanced at him, her gaze indifferent and emotionless.
“I heard from Olivia,” she began, “that you’ve been in charge of the collaboration with Riveron Corporation. Now, it’s clear that there are issues with the Lanister family, yet you’re so eager to rush the finance department to transfer funds to them. Aren’t you afraid that the company’s money will just go to waste? Remember, part of that money is mine.”
She was well aware that the funds in Guerra Group’s public account had nothing to do with her. Even Josiah might not have free access to it. However, to thwart their plans, she had no choice but to feign ignorance.
Henry’s expression changed instantly as he flew into a rage. “Have you ever worked at Guerra Group? If not, on what grounds do you keep saying there’s something wrong with me?”
With a nonchalant demeanor, Lysander said, “I didn’t exactly say that. I was just making a reasonable inquiry.”
The tension in the conference room had escalated to a point where it was no longer possible to continue arguing. The atmosphere was as tense as a drawn bow ready to snap at any moment. It was Seth who first decided to soften his stance. He said, “Mrs. Guerra, there’s no need for you to get upset. Isn’t it just a disagreement over the fund transfer? Why don’t we both take a step back and wait until Mr. Guerra returns to discuss it further?”
He was clearly trying to delay things, unsure of when Josiah would return. As for Lysander, it was impossible for her to always stay at the company.

At worst, he’d handle the matter when she wasn’t around.
Seth shot Henry a knowing glance, hinting for the latter to follow his lead.
Henry understood his intentions implicitly. Just as he was about to speak, however, he saw Lysander take the lead and stand up.
She replied, “Fine. Let’s wait for Mr. Guerra to return before discussing things further. However, I must take his belongings with me. Olivia, could you ask a few of the young lads to lend a hand?”
“Sure!”
Before Henry and Seth could react, Lysander immediately beckoned Olivia and headed straight to Josiah’s office. When they left, they not only brought Josiah’s usual work laptop but also his seal and some documents.
They had taken almost everything except the tables and chairs.
Several board directors wanted to stop them but found no justification. All they could do was exchange helpless glances, watching wide–eyed as Josiah’s seal and documents were taken away.
Upon witnessing the situation, the staff from the finance department scattered promptly like a flock of startled birds. Only a non–finance employee who had arrived with them was left standing, bewildered. After a good long while, he cautiously asked, “So, are we still transferring the money?”
“How can we transfer the funds without Mr. Guerra’s seal?” Henry asked Seth, fear creeping up his chest. “Should we just go ahead and-”
Seth responded to him, “What does this matter have to do with us? I need to make a phone call.”
Meanwhile, Josiah, oblivious to his whereabouts, opened his eyes in pain.
Before he lost consciousness, all he managed to see was the dizzying whirl of the road beneath him. Then, in the hazy glow of the oncoming car’s headlights, he succumbed to unconsciousness. The effect of the drug combined with the impact from crashing on the road left him unconscious for a considerable amount of time.
The first thing that came into view was an unfamiliar ceiling.

The room was spacious, yet the furnishings were notably sparse. He seemed to be in a suburban villa, far from the city center. As for a window on one side, although it appeared large, it had been preemptively sealed shut from the outside with steel bars.
Upon seeing Josiah awaken, Tiffany, who had been keeping vigil by his bedside, gently smiled and said, “Jose, you’re awake.”
Josiah tried to move his arm, realizing that although he had regained some

strength, he could only it slightly. A plan began to form in his mind as he stared at Tiffany with a cold gaze, “What kind of drug did you give me?”
Tiffany had changed into a doll–like outfit. She propped her chin on her hands and replied sweetly, “I had no choice but to do this, Jose. You couldn’t see my worth before, so I brought you here. After we spend more time together, you’ll realize how good I am for you.”
Could a sane person even come up with this logic?
With a gaze as deep and unfathomable as a bottomless abyss, Josiah asked, “Where is this place?”
He was a grown man. As long as he stayed resolute and kept his silence, Tiffany would be absolutely helpless against him. Ironically, the people he truly needed to worry about were the ones away from here.
I wonder how Lysander’s doing.
“Here?” Tiffany fiddled with the lace on her dress, her words vague yet suggestive. “It’s a great location. We definitely won’t be disturbed here,” she assured.
Josiah paused for a moment, his voice cold as he spoke to Tiffany about their unfinished business. “If you’re keeping me here, are you not planning to save your father?”
The words were spoken as calmly as if there was indeed room for negotiation.
Tilting her head in deep thought, Tiffany said, “Of course, I want to rescue my father. After all, he hasn’t done anything wrong. But Jose, lying isn’t right. You never really planned on/saving him, did you?”
Finding this house hadn’t been easy for her, so there was no chance it could have been bugged. That’s why she felt safe enough to utter a few truths.

“Jose, you can rest easy here. I will take good care of you. As for my father, as long as you stay away, this issue will soon be resolved. Once everything outside is taken. care of, he will naturally join us. Then, we will all be one family, and no one will come to disrupt us anymore,” Tiffany added.
Josiah took a deep breath, his voice turning icy cold. “What’s your plan then? There are so many people in the village. Can you really keep all of them quiet?”
Tiffany answered, “Of course not. But, Jose, they’re human, after all. Be it intimidation or temptation, either by offering a bribe or making an example of one to warn the others, something will always work.”
“Making an example out of someone?” Josiah continued sternly, “What else do you plan to do? Drown someone in a pond or turn them mentally crippled just like that college student?”
Tiffany whined, “Come on, Jose, don’t be upset. Those people are just plain ungrateful. All I wanted to do was to develop that area and provide them with an opportunity to leave their mountain village. If not for me, they’d probably spend their entire lives in the mountains. Their stubborn refusal to move is simply a ploy to squeeze more money out of me. But if I were to give in to every household’s demands, can you imagine the cost? These people only respond to force, not reason. A little show of power, and they’ll quiet down.”
“So, that was all your idea,” Josiah said in realization.
“Aren’t I a better fit for a leader than Lysa?” Tiffany asked innocently, pouting her lips. “Jose, when I take over Riveron Corporation in the future, will you show me the ropes too? I’m certain I’m a faster learner than Lysa. Her brain can only understand medicine. When it comes to scheming and plotting in the business world, she’s no match for me.”
Josiah demanded fiercely, “What about Lysander? What have you done to her?”
