Chapter 2992
Shelly wanted no part of such an event, especially when the event was being organized by the Fosters.
It was a gathering for the single employees employed by the Fosters' three companies. She was not an employee so it would be odd for her to date anyone who worked for the Fosters, given that she was Aiden's mother.
It was for precisely that reason that she had not considered dating Fergus.
She had struggled with that decision for some time.
Fergus was a great person and had been wonderful to her and her family. However, the fact that he worked for Hayden made Shelly uncomfortable, and she realized she might feel better dating someone who had no connection to the Fosters.
"Fergus, if I go with you to the gathering, we are even. You can't call me along to events like this again," Shelly said.
"Are you really that reluctant to come? If that's the case, forget it." Fergus could sense her reluctance and did not want to push her too hard. After all, he had only asked her to join him so he could spend more time with her.
"I've already agreed. Just pick me up later!" Shelly said. "You know me. There aren't many men who are able to accept that I'm a single mother, so I don't really like these kinds of events."
"Don't overthink it, Shelly. You don't have to look for a partner at this event. Just think of it as a normal gathering, and have fun!" Fergus consoled.
"Sure."
After ending the call, Shelly glanced at the time and realized it was still early in the day.
Her mother looked at her and said, "You were a bit harsh to Fergus just now."
"Was I?" Shelly touched her face, feeling flushed.
"He kindly invited you out, and, if you really didn't want to go, you could have declined without getting angry," her mother said and went to the kitchen to cook. Shelly got up from her desk and walked towards her mother.
"Mom, I just feel that, with my children, I'm not suited to single people events." Shelly regained her composure. "Fergus stresses me out. Initially, I wasn't in such a hurry to find a partner, but now he wants me to either accept him or look for someone else, and it's making me a bit nervous."
"He means well. Finding a partner is a normal thing, so why are you so bothered by? Do you plan to remain unmarried your whole life? If not, it's good to get to know more people while you're young." Her mother's tone was calm and gentle. "Shelly, I know what you're thinking. Hayden is beyond your reach, and even if you were to marry him just because you have two kids together, I'm afraid you won't be happy."
Shelly did not expect her mother to see through her thoughts so easily.
"Mom, everyone hopes that their significant other is outstanding. Isn't it normal to have such thoughts? Although I have these thoughts, I haven't acted on them. I know my own worth." Shelly did not need to conceal her inner thoughts in front of her mother.
"That kind of thinking is certainly not shameful. I've also fantasized about how good it would be if Hayden became my son-in-law! Our family wouldn't have to work so hard if that was the case. Besides, Hayden is handsome, and his character seems decent. If my daughter could have him, I'd have to thank the gods," her mother said, bursting into laughter.
Just the thought of it made them both so happy. Shelly looked at her mother's smiling face and started laughing, too.
"Mom, I'll work hard to make myself more amazing. I'm sure I'll find an excellent partner in the future."
"You just won't accept Fergus." her mother sighed lightly.
"It's not like that! I'm still young, and I want to see how far I can go in my career," Shelly said, when Audrey started crying from the other room.Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
Shelly immediately went to check on her daughter.
She had woken up and had started crying when she did not see anyone around.
Shelly picked her up and checked her diaper, which was soaked, before putting her down to change it.
"Darling, Mommy will be going out tonight. I might be back a bit late. You have to listen to Grandma, okay? Mommy will take you out to play tomorrow, all right? The temperature is rising these days, and there's a big sun every day! Mommy will take you to see flowers, cars..."
Since having a child, Shelly's mindset had changed, and she no longer felt like a child herself as she often had before.
