Chapter 313
Chapter 313
The birthday feast was about to kick off.
Seeing the room filled with esteemed guests, Evadne couldn’t help but smile at the sight of Emeric and Grandpa chatting away at the front of the room. “Well, I’ll be! Is that Mr. Hamilton?”
“Yep, it sure is! Mr. Hamilton is aging like a fine wine, isn’t he?”
“It’s rare to see such a close bond between Mr. Hamilton and Chairman Emeric these days. If you didn’t know better, you’d think Chairman Emeric was Mr. Hamilton’s son!”
“I heard Mrs. Abernathy is also having a birthday bash tonight. Hamilton skipped his own family gathering to attend Chairman Emeric’s. Intriguing, isn’t it?” Laughter echoed among the guests.
“It’s clear as day that Mr. Hamilton doesn’t approve of his daughter–in–law, Elspeth! For the past six months, with allegations of bribery, auction fraud, and even her niece making a fool out of Mr. Thaddeus, it’s no wonder Mr. Hamilton is not fond of her!”
“I’ve seen Mr. Thaddeus with Chairman Emeric’s daughter, Miss Evadne, they seemed quite a match. Remember that auction scandal? Mr. Thaddeus seemed to defend her. Do you think there’s a chance for them?”
Upon hearing this, Evadne frowned.
“Unlikely, I suppose.”
“Why so?”
“Remember that ugly breakup with his ex, the girl from the Stirling family? He was the talk of the town. Miss Evadne, being so dignified and proud, could she really handle that baggage?”
Evadne nodded in agreement.
“Exes are like cockroaches in the kitchen of a restaurant. You can ignore them until they crawl onto your dining table. No matter how much you tell yourself it doesn’t matter, it’s still nauseating! Mr. Thaddeus might be a catch, but Miss Evadne can do better than someone with a ‘record.”
Evadne nodded again in strong agreement.
“Enjoying the gossip?”
Evadne suddenly looked up, surprised.
When did Thaddeus get here? He was now standing beside her, a gentle smile on his face, his eyes glowing softly as he looked at her.
“I didn’t eavesdrop!” Evadne quickly turned her face away, biting her lower lip.
She’d been caught!
“They were mostly right, but they missed one thing.”
Thaddeus gracefully took a seat, beside her, his gaze on her slightly flushed face. “I don’t only have a past, I have an ex–wife.”
“So, are you proud of that, Mr. Thaddeus?” Evadne crossed her arms, smirking.
Seeing her getting a bit upset, Thaddeus gave a bitter smile. “Evadne, there’s no pride left in me when it comes to you.”
Her expression softened slightly, her heart skipping a beat.
“I just regret.”
His voice was hoarse, his handsome face turning somber. “I regret how I treated you, regret that we were married in secrecy. People don’t know you were my wife.”
“If that’s the case, you don’t need to regret, Mr. Thaddeus.”
She turned her gaze away from him, her voice cold. “I’m glad I was your nameless wife for three years, and that our miserable marriage was never made public.”
Miserable marriage.
Thaddeus swallowed hard, his heart aching.
Even after everything they had been through, to Evadne, he was still a part of her past she wanted to forget.
“That helps me move on from our failed marriage faster. I can pretend we were never together.”
Evadne blinked and let out a light laugh. “Well, we were never really together, were we?”
“Evadne.”
Before Thaddeus could finish, a sweet voice rang out from behind them. “Master! Sorry I’m late!”
Evadne turned around and saw her student, Camille, her face instantly lighting up.
“Camille! You’re not late, I was worried you’d be too busy with the exhibition to make it!”
Camille ran over and hugged her tightly. “How could I mis’s it? When you invite me to a feast, I make sure I’m there!”
That’s when Camille noticed Thaddeus sitting next to Eyadne, his presence simply too overwhelming to ignore.
Her pretty face fell instantly. “Master, you’re sitting with him? Aren’t you disgusted?”
Evadne glanced at the man next to her nonchalantly. “Indeed.”
Thaddeus felt a sting in his heart, but still managed to say, “Evadne, if you’re disgusted by looking at me, then don’t.”
He thought, “There’s no way I’m changing seats.”
“Are you expecting me to go blind?” Evadne couldn’t help but laugh at his remark.
“You can close your eyes.” Thaddeus leaned in closer, his voice soft and teasing.
“And how am I supposed to eat?” Evadne, ever the clever one, fell right into his trap.
“I can feed you.” Thaddeus tilted towards her, his voice low and seductive.
Evadne felt a shiver run down her spine. She tried to move her chair away from him, but Thaddeus, reading her like a book, reached around her and secured her waist,
preventing her from moving.
“You” Evadne’s face turned bright red as she glared at Thaddeus’s warm, gentle eyes.
“Evadne, it’s just dinner. Don’t go ” Thaddeus pleaded, eyes full of longing and regret.
“Thaddeus.”
Evadne pulled her hand away, gripping his wrist tightly, her fingers digging into his flesh. It was a gesture of defiance, but also of pain.
Her delicate fingers barely encircled his muscular wrist, but she tightened her grip as much as she can. “Sitting down to a simple, home–cooked meal with you, just like any normal couple, was something I used to dream about. But now, honestly, the thought of sharing a meal with you makes me feel sick.”
Thaddeus loosened his grip on her waist, feeling drained. “Evadne, I’m sorry.”
“It’s a beautiful day, Thaddeus. Don’t bring down the mood with your apologies,” Evadne said dismissively. “You’re already here, so you might as well sit down.”
It was a small concession, but Thaddeus clung to it.
“Hey, you won’t believe who I ran into on my way here!” Camille interrupted, trying to lighten the mood. “Some jerk almost ran me over!”
Thaddeus took a sip of his water, trying to stay calm. Camille, the top fashion designer, who always seemed so refined and elegant, could be so crude when she’s around Evadne.
“Really? Tell me more,” Evadne prompted, intrigued.
Thaddeus was busy holding down his chest, choking and coughing.
Well, forget he said it.
“Just when I came. There was a car accident.”
Evadne, Thaddeus were shocked.
Reasonably, who could be so light in a car accident?
“Oh my god! Are you hurt?! Why didn’t you call me? I can take you to the hospital!” Evadne was so nervous as she held Camille’s shoulders with both hands.
“Except for a little pain in my neck, it’s nothing serious.” Camille’s heart warmed when she saw that Evadne was so concerned.
“You should still go and take a look. Some of the injuries are internal injuries. They were fine at the time, but they will attack later.”
Thaddeus suddenly opened his lips lightly at this moment, “After the birthday banquet, I will arrange it. No matter what time it is, I can ask a professional surgeon to show you.”
Camille was startled. She didn’t expect this filthy man to be so enthusiastic.
“You don’t have to.”
Evadne quickly hugged Camille and sulked in anger. “I’m also a surgeon. I’ll take charge of my apprentice. Mr. Thaddeus, I won’t bother you.”
Thaddeus hooked his lower lip dryly.
His affection was once again regarded as rubbish.
“I was just walking along when this guy in a fancy car almost hits me. Not only does he not apologize, but he hands me his credit card and tells me to buy a new car!” Camille seethed. “Who does he think he is?”
The more Camille thought about it, the angrier she became. “Master, do you think he’s insulting me? Do you think I’ve never seen money before?! What kind of bitch is he pretending to be?” Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Uh, then what?” Evadne listened with relish and thought it was quite wonderful.
“Then I also took out a bank card and threw it at his face. I said that I have plenty of money, so I can keep him!”
Thaddeus listened quietly by the side and squinted his eyes, finding it interesting.
*Pfft!”
“Interesting,” Evadne said with a smirk, “I would have thought you two would get along. You both seem to lack basic human decency.”
In Camille’s mind, Arnold’s figure appeared. His handsome face, bright and sharp eyes, delicate skin, and his every move was as dashing as a teenager.
She couldn’t help but swallow saliva, throat itching.
“Humph, who wants to match that kind of person?”
Camille huffed indignantly, but then her eyes widened as she spots someone approaching them.
“You! What are you doing here?” she exclaimed, pointing at the man.
Evadne and Thaddeus turned around to see a handsome man walking towards them.
“The nerve of you to show your face here, Camille muttered, “What are you doing here?”
“Me? I should be asking you the same question,” the man responded coolly.
‘Camille, you know him?” Evadne asked, surprised.
“Yeah, he’s the jerk who almost hit me with his car,” Camille grumbled.
Evadne gave a knowing look before standing up and walking over to the man. She wrapped her arm around his neck, pulling him close.
“Camille, allow me to reintroduce you to my brother, Arnold, the top prosecutor for Elmsworth,’ she said with a smirk.
