Howling Hearts

Chapter 29

Fear struck in their eyes and they looked at each other before they regained themselves.

"Sweatheart"

Jade began. I held my hand up for her to stop speaking.

"If you are going to try and convince me that there is nothing to know about my parents, we might as well end the meeting right here."

I guess Jade didn't like being cut off because she glared daggers at me.

"Scarlet I understand what my son has done to you is unforgivable but that doesn't mean you shouldn't know your place" Alpha Caleb said sternly.

It kind of annoyed me, this whole position and knowing your place kind of thing. Especially when directed towards me. "How should I know my place, Alpha Caleb?" I asked sarcastically.

"Scarlet. You are part of the beta family but hold no rank that is crucial for the pack or any other. You are no longer a future Luna, so stop behaving like one."

I laughed at his reply. They both stared in shock at me. "Is she losing her mind?" Jade whispered into her mate's ear. "No jade. You guys are just hilarious." "And how is that?" Alpha Caleb asked, demanding an answer.

"If it isn't already as clear as Daylight, then I suggest you open your eyes. I have another mate. I think you might know of him. His name is Lucian

". Jade's eyes grew wider in shock. "Impossible!"

"Want to call my bluff?' the shock in her face vanished into a sense of hatred. She gritted her teeth and glared at me once again.

"I suggest you both try and get on my good side before I take over the Position of Luna in Silvermoon. One of the largest packs in the country as well as your arch enemy. If I recall the war correctly, Silvermoon was beating Lunar before the treaty was set.I have no doubt we could do it again"

I don't know why I was so angry with them. I guess it's because they played a part in what happened to me. They didn't stop Asher from sleeping around, they didn't stop him from marking my sister even though they knew the truth and they also didn't come to check up on me after everything that had happened.

The room went quiet for a while and I stood up from my chair.

"I guess since you aren't willing to cooperate this meeting will be adjourned. Kind of sad really. I was hoping you would do what was in the best interest of the pack. But I guess at some point Silvermoon will have to remind you guys again of who holds the power."This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.

I started walking and just as I placed my hand on the door to open it, Alpha Caleb stopped me. "Wait. Scarlet, I understand you are hurting"

"No Alpha Caleb. I'm not hurting. I am actually thankful that I didn't get marked by your sorry excuse of a son and future alpha. I just want to find out the truth".

He sighed before he sat down. I then took my seat again opposite them.

"I know my son disappointed you as he did me, but are you certain you are ready for this conversation?'

He asked, eyeing my every move and expression. "Yes", I said without hesitating,

"Tell me everything you know".

Lucian:

I was rethinking this whole morning. Did she actually sleep with that douche? That abomination. I just got angrier and angrier. I was in my main office gripping at the edge of the table. Trying to calm myself. I couldn't help picturing her with that abomination calling out his name. Damian's mind linked me, letting me know that she wanted to see Alpha Caleb.

Doesn't she have perfect timing? I could hear the table cracking under my hands and letting go. Then I messaged her. The rage was overwhelming and becoming unbearable.

It annoyed me even more that she didn't want me to be there at her so-called "meeting". After a few moments of thinking, I knew she hadn't met all the members yet.

So I assigned my gamma to be her guard for this meeting that is so damn important to her. He would be my eyes and my ears. Time seemed to move at the speed of a snail. I kept looking at the clock.

"How long is this going to take?" I heard my beast in the back of my mind. I knew he was just as upset as I was. In a fit of rage, we threw the whole Alpha office upside down.

Just then, Trey walked in. I stopped in my tacks and stared at him, waiting for him to bring me some sort of good news. "Damn alpha, seems like shes got you by the balls",

He said while looking over the mess that had engulfed my office.

"Speak" my beast growled. Trey was my Gamma and one of my best friends. I never liked using my position against any of them, but Scarlet seems to bring out the worst in me. She was a drug that I couldn't let go.

"Calm down Lucian. She was quite extraordinary in there. She also claimed to be your Luna in front of them."

I could feel my rage calming down.

"She also said she was thankful that she didn't get marked by their sorry excuse of a son and future alpha. She threatened them with war"

He said with a smug face.

"So then what was the meeting about?"

"Well, she's on a hunt to find out the truth. Apparently, her parents aren't her biological parents. Apparently, she was dropped off at the lunar gates and there was no trace of a mother or a father. They assumed it was possibly a rogue teen who wasn't ready. Luckily for Scarlett, the beta family was struggling to conceive another child. So they were happy that the moon goddess blessed them with a child even if it's not their own."

Even though we weren't as susceptible to humanly health issues, it still happened. However, it was a rare case.

My parents were also one of those rare cases, although they were open to me about my past since I was old enough to understand. They still treated me as their own and I took on the alpha position from my father. No one else knew but our family.

It saddened me to realize that Scarlet is going through this. Her whole life must be flipped upside down because she truly believed them to be her true parents

. "I must say I'm happy that you waited for her. Sorry for pushing you all these years." He said with a guilty grin and rubbing the back of his head.

I looked at him and recalled all the girls he had tried to match me with. Sometimes he would get a she-wolf to lay naked in my bed. I never fell for them as I had spared myself in most aspects for my mate.

I understood where he came from, since alphas without a Luna are seen as an easy target, but I have proven myself over and over again over the last couple of years. Trey left the office, leaving me alone in the mess I had created for myself.

Asher:

My father had made it clear to me that I wouldn't be getting the alpha position. Even though I had initially thought he was bluffing, I soon realized he wasn't.

He had taken his gamma's son in and decided to train him for the alpha position. I stared at the door leading to the bathroom and heard the shower stop.

I soon saw Saige exiting the bathroom with nothing but a towel. She stopped when she saw me watching her and dropped her towel as a way to try and seduce me.

It's been hard to get myself going after seeing what I had done to scarlet. After I rejected her, Lucian dropped me outside his pack gates and closed them behind me. Ever since, I've found myself thinking of scarlet more often. 2

Obviously, this was a big turn off when Saige tried to seduce me. I knew that she was the one that got me in this position and she wasn't worth it. Scarlet was. 2

I held the little box in my hand with the gift wrapping barely holding on. I never tried to give her the gift as it didn't compare to hers at all. It was also something I've been holding onto.

I walked off to my room and picked up the book she had dropped the day I found out she was mine. I held the two gifts next to one another. Little pieces of her I still have with me. Pieces as evidence in the bond we once had. I miss her.
