“Keep your eyes open Rachael” “Check her pulse, feel it” “How is she responding?” these and more I was hearing floating on the top of my head. I wanted to shoot open my eyes but the power to keep them closed was greater than the power to open them.

“Her heartbeat is returning faster” a voice commented and I heard a sigh of relief.

“Rachael,” Noah said shaking me slightly. I groaned loudly so he could know that I was so weak I couldn’t stand.

“We will be back to check on her,” the doctor told Noah before leaving the room. I finally opened my eyes and I felt so tired. I cleared my throat preparing myself to sit upright.

“What happened?” I asked Noah as he sat down on the bed clutching tightly to my hand.

“I was so afraid. Never give me such a fright again” he murmurs into my palms. I say shocked at what is happening. After a few seconds, I try again.

“What happened?” I ask this time sounding better than I did.

“What do you remember?” he asks me.

“I drank some of the energy drink and boom I’m here,” I said and he nodded. “What happened?” I asked him and he shook his head.

“I’m glad you are okay” he murmurs again. I want to pull my hands from his grip and run it through his hair.

“What happened to me?” I asked him and he shook his head.

“Nothing much” he comments. His quietness and stillness scare the crap out of me. I have no energy to argue with him so I agree. I lay back down. Closing my eyes for a few seconds. Suddenly I felt so odd myself.

“Something isn’t right,” I say my eyes shooting open. “Tell me what happened to me” I shout. Although my voice comes out like a squeaky mouse.

“Rachael please be calm,” he says ignoring me and my rants about what is wrong with me.

“Did I pass out again?” I ask him. My head felt so heavy for my body.

“Yes, and this time…” he begins but then cuts himself short again.

“What is it?” I ask him as I divert my eyes.

“I guess I still have to tell you,” he says sucking a deep breath. Although my instincts are already whispering what is wrong, I just want to hear to believe.

“Yes,” I pester when he quietens again.

“The baby,” he said his voice small. “Or rather the babies,” he said and my eyebrows quirked up.

“Babies?” I question feeling a little lost at what he was implying.

“Yes the doctors discovered that you were carrying twins after you lost the baby,” he said and I finally knew that I was done for.

“What?” I ask quietly. Although in my head I could hear shouting.

“Calm down Rachael,” he said sounding disheartened.

“What happened?” I ask him and he looks away. “What happened?” I tried again.

“The doctors said it was something you ate but… ” he began but I cut him off.

“The energy drink,” I say and a confused expression overtakes his face.

“What?” he spoke looking so confused.

“The energy drink that Nichole brought. I thought it was strange that I was feeling awkward when I drank it but now that I think of it.” I say trailing off.

His face is hard and the expression on his face tells me nothing.

“Are you blaming Nichole?” he asked with a frown. Was he kidding me at the moment?

“As a matter of fact yes,” I say facing him squarely. “Don’t you find it strange that u take a glass of her drink and I lose my babies the next minute?” I ask him. I plead silently for him to see what I see with me.

“I can’t believe you, Rachel,” he said and my eyes snapped to him. “You are being so unreasonable,” he said and I could not just believe him.

“What are you saying” I asked suddenly feeling so very emotional. Tears began to sip from my eyes.

“How can you even think to blame Coco?” he asked and I just couldn’t believe my ears. “I know she wants us separated but how can you think such a nice girl will go as far as killing our baby to separate us” he said so calmly that I was waiting for him to tell me that he was pranking me.

“Well, think of it this way,” I say daring him with my look. “She was bold enough to lie about her apartment. Bold enough to leave her boyfriend and come live with us. Bold enough to start such a useless argument about you leaving me. Do you still have doubts as to why she will do this?” I ask him and he looks away.

“She is not the type of person,” he says looking away.

“Call my mom to come take me home,” I say daring him with my intense stare.

“What do you mean?” he asked me and I laughed bitterly.

“They wanted me out of your life so Coco can come in and the only way I will stay with you is if I’m having a baby for you and since I’m not then why do I have to stay with you?” I and him tears leaving my eyes. It’s a pity I had started to love him.

“You don’t have to go, we can fix this,” he said and I looked away.

Days later after I had been discharged against my will Noah brought me to the house. The moment we were at home Noah’s mom was waiting for us.

“Hey, mom?” Noah said in a question form.

“What is she doing here?” she asked sneering at me.

“She came to her house” Noah answered in a duh tone. She frowned at me.

“She has nothing to do here”

“She is my wife,” he said and I turned my face.

“Noah,” she said taking a step to him. “Honey,” she said holding his face. “She lost the baby so she could leave our lives forever. Think about what her parents caused for me” she said. I could see Noah break down at the sight of his mom. He loved her. He had to. It’s okay I will just find my bearing from here. Her eyes wandered the length of the room until it landed on me.

“What are you still doing here?” she asked with so much venom in her voice. I looked to main begging him internally to save me, although he couldn’t hear me I was still begging him to remember his promises and save me. He just looked away. “Rachael dearest, you can leave now” she stated as firm as anything.

I turned to leave hoping he would call unto me and beg me not to go, but then nothing. As I went up to pack my clothes, nothing not even a sound from him. As I called my dad to send someone to pick me up, nothing, and finally when I slipped into the car and rolled away still nothing. He didn’t keep his promisesNôvelDrama.Org owns all © content.
