KING MICAH: World Beyond The Ruins

Chapter 26

Lovette’s POV

I was confused. Confused about what the fuck was going on. Micah sat at the foot of the bed holding my hand so tightly in his that it was almost painful. I hissed and jerked my hand until he noticed and his hold became gentle.

“I’m so sorry Lovette” he spoke softly, bringing the back of my hand to his lips and placing a soft kiss on the inside of my palm.

“Micah, what’s going on?” I inquired of him, still confused about what was happening.

I knew what happened on our way to the Dragons- My throat was slashed open by the bear and I should be dead.

I slowly brought my left palm up to my throat and there it was-, the evidence of what I thought happened did happen.

I turned my head to look at Micah and with tear filled eyes and shaky lips I whispered to him, “I should be dead”

“I wouldn’t let that happen” The king firmly stated with a hard tone. I shaked my head and withdraw my hand from Micah.

“No Micah,” I laughed with tear filled eyes. “I wanted to die” I told him as I wiped the tears from my eyes and looked at him.

Micah jaw clenched so hard that I thought a canine would break and the look in his eyes were so deadly that it could kill. But that was what I wanted, to end it all and be dead.

“I won’t let that happen”

A laugh left my lips and I got up from the bed only to stumble and I used the wall to support myself. Micah got up to help me with his hands stretched out to support my weight but a glare from me made him halt in his moves and he sat down in the bed with balled fist.

“I’m tired” I whispered as I looked up at the roof of the house. “I’m tired of it all and just want it to end” I added and a single tear dropped from my right eye which I was quick to wipe with the back of my palm.

This time Micah got up and rushed to me but I didn’t have the energy to stop him again. He held my cheek between his palms and made me look at him and a single word from him made me break down.Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

“Please”

I grabbed his palms as my body began to shake and my emotions could not be kept at bay. Every pain, every betrayal and heartbreak came crashing down on me like a thousand ice.

My legs could no longer hold my weight and I fell to the ground with Micah right next to me. He pulled me to his chest and held me tightly in his arms.

“I hate you” I said with mocose running down my nose and I wiped it with the back of my palm. I turned my head to Micah’s chest and wrapped my arms around his waist. “I hate you so much” I whispered into his chest.

I took a long sniff of him and my lungs instantly filled with his scent and my body began to relax. It is quite funny that I am taking comfort in the man who brought me so much pain and took my life away from me but I didn’t have the energy to even break a laugh.

My eyes became heavy and slowly I began to drift into slumber. Micah kissed the top of my head and brought his lips to my ear and whispered. “I swear on my life Lovette, I will serve you and beg you till the day you forgive”

I hummed, having no words for him because I knew they were all empty promises and lies.

******

When I woke up, it was already night time and I found myself in bed while Micah was fast asleep on the chair next to me. His big frame was angled in an awkward position but I did not care enough to make him sleep in the bed with me.

I rolled the blanket that was on the bed into a ball and tiptoed out of the hut with it. I looked up to the sky and saw that the moon was shinning beautifully and closed my eyes with a small smile gracing my face. The air was calm and it looked like a beautiful time to take a walk in the woods with the light from the moon guarding me.

I knew that if I was in trouble, Micah would come running to save me so I took my first step into the woods.

It felt like I had only been walking for some minutes but I knew it was quite past an hour and and decided to go back to the hut. I heard the sound of leaves been crunched under a boot and cursed myself for going this deep into the forest.

“Who’s-” I stopped talking, realizing that I would only be drawing attention towards myself and just kept on walking. I pulled the blanket that I had taken from the hit closer to my body and increased my speed.

The sound of a person following me was closer and I began to panic. I suddenly came to a stop and my breath hitched in my throat with a bony hand grabbed my shoulder.

I gulped as it slower turned me around and I was faced with a short hoodie person. Their hands shakily left my shoulder and my body relaxed a little when I realized it was just an old lady.

“Do you have any bread to spare?” She asked, bringing fort her bony palm up to me and I shook my head.

“I am sorry, I didn’t bring any with me” I said with a gentle smile.

The old lady brought her hand down and slowly took down her hoodie. I gasped and stumbled back when I saw a black snake wrapped around her neck and a sinister smile on her red painted lips.

“Do you have any bread to spare?” This time she said with sinister voice and a cry left my lips as she produced a dagger from her mouth.

I turned around and stumbled into someone and quickly I closed my eyes when I felt to the ground.

“Lovette!” A gentle feminine voice said and I snapped my eyes open to see the priestess from this morning standing over me with confusion written all over her face. “What’s wrong?” She asked me, looking at me then over my shoulder.

I quickly looked back but was surprised to not see the old lady. Did I just imagined everything that happened?

“I-there-” I stammered, trying to grasped what has just happened but decided it was the after effect of been brought back to life from the dead.

“It was nothing” I smiled at her and she nodded, not completely convinced which made two of us.

She stretched her hand to me and as I was about to grab it, a dagger went through her right eyeball and blood splattered all over my face and chest and the priestess was laying face flat on the ground.

The same old woman whom I had just thought I imagined was crunching over her dead body. She pulled the dagger from the back of her head with ease and pointed it toward me with a smile.

“Now, let’s have some fun” She laughed and I screamed.

The first word out of my lips was his name,

Micah.
