Chapter 676
Chapter 676 Significant Clue
*Zander*
Selena had left with the High Priestess, and now the world believed we had broken up. To them, she thought I had betrayed her and wanted nothing to do with me. The deception was working as planned, yet the weight of it settled heavily on my chest.
I had instructed my Gamma, Ethan, to keep a close watch on Alpha Albert and Anne, tracking their every move. If our suspicions were right, they wouldn't be able to hide for long. But for now, all I could do was wait.
And waiting was excruciating.
Hours had passed, and I still hadn't heard from Selena. The silence gnawed at me like a slow-burning fire. Lyon paced inside me, restless and agitated. Something felt wrong. We both knew the danger lurking in the shadows was closer than ever, and the longer we remained disconnected, the more unbearable the uncertainty became.
A sudden mind link broke through my thoughts.
'Austin finally fell asleep,' Blair's voice came through, laced with exhaustion. 'He cried himself to sleep after missing Selena all day.'
I closed my eyes, my jaw tightening. My son.
Selena had been devastated when she was forced to leave him behind. I had seen the pain in her eyes, the silent tears she tried to hide as she walked away from our crying child. And now, Austin had spent hours sobbing in her absence. He had his family around him, but Selena was alone in the Lunar Realm, surrounded by uncertainty and potential danger.noveldrama
The thought sent a fresh wave of frustration crashing through me. I should have been able to protect her, to be by her side. But all I could do was wait-wait and hope she was safe.
I exhaled sharply, running a hand through my hair. My feet moved on their own, pacing the room in a desperate attempt to manage the unbearable weight pressing down on my chest. The silence was suffocating, each second stretching longer than it should.
Then, again, a mind link broke through my thoughts.
'Alpha, Vampire King Jasper has come to see you,' it was Maddox this time. Jasper?
I halted mid-step, my eyes narrowing. Why was he here now?
"Send him to my study," I commanded through the link, my voice sharp with intrigue.
'Okay, Alpha!' Maddox responded before the link faded.
Minutes later, a knock echoed through the room, followed by the door swinging open. Maddox stepped inside, leading the imposing figure of King Jasper.
The Vampire King carried his usual air of authority, his crimson eyes sharp as they met mine. Without wasting a second, he asked, "Where is Queen Selena?"
"She returned to the Lunar Realm," I replied evenly.
Jasper's expression darkened with surprise. "She went back? But why?"
"She had her reasons." My voice was firm, offering nothing more. I wasn't sure I trusted him enough to reveal our plan. "But what
Jasper studied me for a moment before speaking again. "Selena told me to track Damon's location. And I believe I am very close to finally finding him."
My body tensed at his words, my heartbeat quickening. "Really?" My brows lifted
in surprise, though deep inside, a wave of relief washed over me.
Finally, some good news.
"Where?" I asked, my voice sharper now, the promise of finally ending this looming conflict beginning to feel real.
Jasper smiled, a rare flicker of satisfaction crossing his features. "I'll show you,
Alpha. It's just a matter of time before we catch him."
He reached into his coat and pulled
out a sleek tablet, tapping the screen before turning it toward me. The video played, and I leaned in, watching closely. A shadowy figure moved swiftly through a dimly lit corridor, her cloak billowing behind her as she glanced around cautiously.
I smirked slightly, a surge of pride swelling in my chest. Selena had ensured that technology reached even the farthest regions of our world, seamlessly connecting the shifter and supernatural realms. Now, that innovation was playing a crucial role in our war.
Jasper pointed at the screen. "She's my royal witch, Cassandra. I've been suspicious of her for a few days. Now, I finally have proof that she's been secretly helping someone t planted a tracker in her staff, and I'm
close to finding out exactly where
she's going."
I narrowed my eyes, studying the video. "You think it's Damon she's helping?"
Jasper's expression hardened. "I'm
sure of it. Cassandra was fiercely
loyal to him. Even though she now
serves me
as king, she's never truly
accepted my rule. I've caught glimpses of resentment in her eyes, and always suspected she was
waiting for his return. This just confirms it."
His reasoning made sense. Damon had lived far longer than he deserved, evading justice time and again. If Cassandra was indeed helping him, then this could be the breakthrough we needed.
"Then what are we waiting for?" I said, urgency lacing my words. If Jasper's suspicions were correct, we were finally one step closer to ending this.
What do you think?
