CHAPTER 8
CHAPTER 8
Xander couldn’t contain his fury when he stepped inside the villa and saw Summer standing with a stranger.
He had been watching them for a few minutes before he finally walked up to her, and just before he got there, the man Summer was with had walked
away.
“What are you doing here?” With his hand tucked inside his pockets and his eyes piercing down at her, he asked, causing Summer to raise her gaze to look at him.
“Xander… Why are you here?” Summer was taken by surprise as she rose to her feet.
“Are you stalking me?” Her voice came out softly as she gently tucked her hair behind her ear and raised her eyebrows.
“Summer…”
“I won’t change my mind even if you keep stalking me, Mr. Xander, I won’t get back with you, and I won’t treat your Mom either. Why don’t you stop being petty, hmm?” Xander almost lost his mind by her sarcasm, but this was the last place he’d act crazy. Hell nah! Not with the many people around.
“We need to talk. Xander grabbed her hand without warning.
“What are you doing?” At that moment, Hunter walked inside with a glass of chilled water. He held Summer and pulled her away from Xander.
“Excuse me? Who are you? Why are you touching my woman like that?” Xander’s eyebrows furrowed, and he looked at her to confirm what he just heard.
“Honey. Who is this man? He was flirting with me and tried to hurt me,” Summer pouted her lips as she held Hunter’s arm and rested her head on it like she was scared.
“Hmph! Summer…”
“I think he is mistaking me for someone. I’m so scared. Can you get me out of here, please?” Seeing the look on his face made Summer satisfied and she could go any length at that moment just to piss Xander off and make him lose his mind.
“Are you out of your mind, Summer? Are you seriously denying me right now?” Xander couldn’t hold it in anymore and ended up yelling, demanding the attention of everyone which was of course given to him immediately as all eyes diverted to them.
“What’s going on there?” Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
“Are they fighting or something?”
“Isn’t that Mr. Hunter? Who is picking up a fight with him?”
“I think that’s Mr. Xander Hughes of Hughes’s Corporation. Why are they fighting?”
“But who is that woman?” Many people whispered as they turned their attention to Xander and Hunter.
“Do I know you, please?” Xander’s jaw dropped to the ground seeing the clueless expression on her face. He couldn’t believe she could deny her in front of everyone and make him look like a fool. Maybe he had underestimated her.
“Honey… Why are you not taking me out of here?‘m scared,” She tucked on Hunter’s cloth as she hid behind him.
“Come here. I think we should leave,” Hunter held her hand and walked her out of the villa, leaving Xander standing there like a fool.
Summer gently removed her hand from Hunter’s once they stepped out of the villa, and she smiled.
“You can go back inside and enjoy the party. I have something to take care of,” Hunter’s pupils dilated surprisingly as he wasn’t expecting her to act as though nothing happened just now.
“I will take a cab home, so don’t worry about me,” She stated before she turned to leave.
“What’s your relationship with Xander?” Summer halted abruptly and closed her eyes briefly as she exhaled. For the next few seconds, she stood there motionless while thinking of what she was going to tell him. No way she was going to admit that Xander was her ex–husband. That was the last thing she’d do.
“You know him?” She turned around and faced him with a smile on her face,
“Yes… He is one of my business rivals. What’s your relationship with him? Hunter asked for the second time with desperation and curiosity written all over him.
“He’s not someone important. Just someone lurking around and begging for an operation on someone close to him,” Summer could only come up with that excuse, and he slowly nodded.
“Why did you deny knowing him back there?”
“That’s because I was trying to avoid him,” Summer knew deep inside him that Hunter might not be so foolish to believe the lies she had cooked up, but she was hoping he’d let her off the hook as she wasn’t in the mood to talk about anything, especially the ones that had to do with Xander
“Alright. Come on. I’ll go drop you off,” Hunter offered as he headed toward the parking lot.
“Don’t worry about me. You can enjoy the…”
“I’ll call my friend on the phone later. Come on, let’s go,” He hopped inside the car and waited for her to join him. Shortly after, Summer joined him in the car, and the ride to her house began.
“Are you ok?” His voice disrupted her thoughts on their way home, and she glanced at him.
“Hmm. I’m fine,” her mind was in a state of a mess, but she couldn’t possibly open up to him, right?
“Hmm,” Hunter hummed, and silence assumed the atmosphere.
He glanced at her minutes later. Deep inside him, he knew that everything she told him earlier were all lies, but he couldn’t come up with something that made sense. He was sure that there was more to their relationship than she had told him, but he couldn’t place what exactly it was
to stop at a restaurant and eat together?” He broke the awkward silence.
“Do you want
“No, I’m fine. I have plans with
with Dad,” Sh
She declined, and he nodded.
Hunter drove into their compound a few minutes later and pulled over in front of Summer’s mansion.
“Are you coming in?” She asked as she removed her seatbelt.
“Not really. Let’s see some other time. I have things to do and I’m afraid I won’t be able to wait. I’ll call you,” He replied to her politely, and she nodded.
“See you around,” And with that, she pushed the car door open and alighted from the car.
She watched him drive away, and just when she turned to go inside the house, her phone beeped with a text on the screen.
‘Tomorrow is the kids‘ first day in school, ma’am. They are demanding that you take them to school yourself. Will you be free to do that? I can handle it
and talk them out of it if you are not” She read through the text and sighed. The kids lived with their nanny in Mr. Miller’s mansion.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be there tomorrow morning‘ She walked inside the compound after she replied to the text….
