Let's Start All Over Again, Shall We (Maggie and Nathaniel)

Chapter 401

Chapter 401 Should We Stop Them?

Nathael looked at her with a cold expression and asked in a deep voice. "You don't want to pretend anymore?"

Maggie shifted awkwardly, avoiding his gaze, and responded in a low murmur, "I wasn't faking sleep, you woke me."

Nathael gave her a piercing look before reclining on the pillow, his hands folded under his head.

"Let me have some of the blanket," he murmured.

Reluctantly, Maggie shifted the blanket covering her towards him and then lay at the edge of the bed.

As Nathael wrapped himself in the blanket, the room fell silent.

Feeling restless and uncomfortable, Maggie slowly relaxed as the man behind her remained motionless.

Her awareness began to fade as she drifted towards sleep.

Turning. Nathael moved closer to her from behind and gently encircled her with his arms.

Feeling his warmth, Maggie tensed up involuntarily, her sleepiness fading.

Nathael looked down, hiding the self-mockery in his eyes.

Did her cautiousness still linger, even at this close distance?

Slowly opening her eyes, Maggie remained motionless. She could feel the warmth of his chest through the thin fabric.

"Do you hate me that much?" Nathael asked softly.

After a pause, Maggie relaxed and whispered, "Mr. Harris, do you really not know?"

Nathael let out a soft chuckle at her reproachful tone, whispering, "Sleep now, I won't disturb you tonight."

Reassured by his word Maggie released her tension and fell asleep.

Despite her steady breathing next to him, Nathael stayed awake, holding her closer.

Mia had been punctual for several days in a row.

However, Nathael had been absent each time, except for one day when he was present.

Today, at ten in the morning, Maggie realised Nathael was not around.

She quickly tidied up and then sat in the living room, deep in thought.

She planned to leave when Mia arrived, unsure if she would ever come back.

Maggie meticulously noted every detail of the room, trying to memorise it.

After she had organised her belongings and changed the bedding, Mia arrived just before lunch.

Observing the maid serving food, Mia whispered, "Everything is set. Leo has positioned the personnel outside; half are getting their meals from the downstairs kitchen, and the other half from an external restaurant."

She continued, "Leo is managing the medications outside, and I've discreetly added some to the soup downstairs. They'll be asleep within half an hour after eating"

Maggie nodded, confirming. "I've packed my things."

The upstairs servants would join the others for the meal, but Nolan's presence made Maggie cautious.

"Maggie, are you okay?" Mia asked, noticing her distraction.

Snapping back to the present, Maggie assured her, "I'm fine, really."

Mia furrowed his brows with concern and said, "I don't get it

They shared a meal without further questions, though Maggie ate only a little.

Afterwards, resting with Mia, they kept an eye out for any signs of activity from Leo outside.

At one o'clock in the afternoon, a message from Leo appeared on both Mia and Maggie's phones: 'Come downstairs. I'll be there in two minutes.

Without hesitation, Maggie and Mia grabbed the luggage and headed downstairs.

Once downstairs, they found everyone asleep. Nolan sat on the sofa, his eyes half-closed and a baseball cap pulled low over his face, making it unclear whether he was awake.

The scene startled Maggie, triggering a reflexive nervousness.

Mia furrowed his brows, and for a moment, they just stood there, scrutinising Nolan. Seeing that he remained motionless, Mia cautiously approached and slightly lifted his cap.

They breathed a sigh of relief when they saw that Nolan's eyes were closed, and he showed no reaction.

Mia could not resist a small joke despite the tension, "He looks a bit intimidating, but he is actually quite handsome."

"Hurry, let's go," Maggie urged, not wanting to linger. She felt an odd unease, concerned about how smoothly their plan was unfolding..

Unnoticed by them, Nolan, on the sofa, moved his eyelashes slightly and slowly opened his dull eyes as Maggie and Mia left.

Maggie and Mia walked together to the door, where Leo's car, along with two others, was already parked.

Upon seeing them emerge, Leo quickly got out of the car to help with their luggage and spoke in a deep voice, "Nathael's meeting ended early today. Since his whereabouts are unknown, we need to leave quickly."

Mia climbed into the car first while Maggie lingered by the door, her gaze drawn back to the place she had. loved across two lifetimes.

Although she had never truly had a home, Nathael had provided her with one.

Yet, life's twists and turns often lead to things beyond one's control.

"Maggie, hurry up!"

Mia called out, snapping Maggie out of her reverie. With a final glance back, she turned and got into the car.

This departure marked a separation. While not necessarily a life-and-death situation, Maggie felt it was scarcely less significant.

Her only regret now was that she had woken up a bit late that morning.

Nathael had already left, and she had not had the chance to give him one last hug.

Settling into the car, Maggie felt a dull ache in her chest and her face paled. Lowering her eyes, she closed them, pretending to sleep as a way to mask the pain in her heart.

Mia gently held Maggie's hand and whispered, "Maggie, no matter what, Joyce and I will always be by your side."

Maggie managed a smile and responded softly. "I know."

Seeing Maggie's pale, almost bloodless face, Mia could not help but embrace her. Maggie's smile seemed so forced, fragile, and heart-wrenching that Mia felt a surge of sympathy.

Maggie leaned against Mia's chest, m

her eyes slightly teary, but she appeared numb, unable to cry. Instead a desolate emptiness filled her heart, accompanied by a confusing, overwhelming sense of loss.

As the car drove out of the neighbourhood, unbeknownst to Maggie, Nathael was watching ther from a hotel suite across the street. He stood silently by the window, observing as the group departed.

Behind Nathael, Alex stood quietly, barely daring to breathe. He tentatively asked, "Mr. Harris, should we stop them?"

Nathael did not answer immediately, continuing to gaze through the French window as Maggie's car disappeared from view.

Alex was puzzled. He could not understand why Nathael had not stopped her but had instead let her go since he already knew she was planning to leave.

Nathael's expression darkened. After o'm a moment, he lowered his gaze, concealing the reddish tint at the his eyes. He then took out corners of his a cigarette, placed it between his lips, and lit it slowly, lost in his thoughts.
