Living With My Lady Boss

Chapter 7

Wilbur chuckled. “I’ve told you not to get violent with me, or you’ll regret it.”

“Don’t listen to him, Blake. Fighting with someone like him will only taint your value. Let’s go.” Yvonne glared at Wilbur in disdain as she pulled Blake away.

Before leaving, Blake said, “Just you wait, bastard. I’m not done with you yet. You’re so dead when I have the time.”

“That’s fine with me,” Wilbur replied with a smile.

The pair left with their bodyguards with their heads held high, swaggering away.

Wilbur shook his head and mumbled to himself, “I’m looking forward to your wedding too.” Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.

Having said that, he drove back to the house at Castlebury. After parking his car at the entrance, he cast a glance around the area and decided that he should look around and familiarize himself with the area.

The neighborhood was a pretty big one with a central garden. The garden alone was around two hundred acres, almost the size of a public park.

Wilbur reminisced on his life as he strolled about in the garden.

His parents had mysteriously disappeared when he was a young boy, leaving him in his grandfather’s care. His Dragonsoul awoke when he was sixteen, and he inherited a wide set of ancient skills.

He then went abroad, forming the Abyss Mercenaries and amassing a fortune for himself.

Upon dissolving the Abyss Mercenaries, he founded the Cape Consortium before returning to his old home in Seechertown to get married.

He did all that, only to be abandoned and humiliated instead of living a happy life in love.

Just as he was reminiscing, a voice called out from behind him, “Stop! Don’t come any closer.”

Wilbur looked up and saw a hunky man clad in a black suit blocking his way.

In front of him was a young, beautiful girl in her twenties helping an old man walk.

Wilbur frowned. “Why? Do you own this place?”

“No, but keep your distance,” The hunk said emotionlessly.

Wilbur said calmly, “Since that’s not the case, anyone can take a stroll here. Get out of my way.”

“I won’t show you any mercy if you come any closer!” The hunk refused to move.

Wilbur’s expression changed into one of annoyance as he lowered his voice, “Are you trying to abuse your power?”

The hunk’s expression turned cold. Just then, the old man interrupted with a hoarse voice, “Out of the way! God, you’re annoying. This is a public space. I don’t own this place!”

It was only then that the hunk backed off.

Wilbur walked up to the old man, who smiled and greeted him.

Wilbur bowed slightly in response and continued walking.

Just then, the girl remarked, “Rude.”

“What did you say?” Wilbur turned to look at the girl.

The girl pushed up her glasses and replied, “I said that you were rude.”

Wilbur said calmly, “Young lady, not everyone cares about hierarchy as you do. I think I was being nice enough.”

The girl’s expression hardened. “What are you trying to say, huh?”

The old man saw that the two were about to argue and let out a chuckle, “Young man, I’m going to be paralyzed real soon. Do me a favor and let this slide, will you?”

Wilbur glanced at the old man, observing him carefully before saying slowly, “Wow, you’re pretty ill.”

Those words made the girl flare up in anger at once. She pointed at Wilbur’s nose in outrage. “I dare you to say that again!”

“Was I wrong?” Wilbur’s expression was uncaring.

The girl was about to burst into a fit of rage when the old man stopped her with a smile. “You don’t seem like a regular person, young man.”

Wilbur responded calmly, “I’m pretty average.”

“I don’t think so. Tell me, how much longer do you think I’ve got to live?” the old man asked all of a sudden.

Wilbur replied, “About a week.”

The girl was practically shaking with outrage. She glanced at the bodyguard, who came closer at once.

The old man perked up at once and waved them down. “Is that so? Do you have any solutions to that, young man?”

“I suppose so, but who are you to deserve me telling you?” Wilbur asked calmly.

The old man chuckled at once and nodded. “You’re right. Who am I, anyways? You’d better be on your way, young man.”

Wilbur turned around and promptly left.

Just then, the girl remarked, “Grandpa, he’s such a snob.”

“Don’t say that. Don’t we look like snobs to other people too? Just like he said, who are we, even?” The old man rasped and continued on his walk.

The girl teared up then. Tears rolled down her cheeks. “You’re a hero who injured yourself trying to save our country. That’s who you are!”

“And what do you mean by that? Anyone should do that for their country. We can’t just act all high and mighty because of that, can we?” The old appeared to be furious.

Wilbur stopped in his tracks all of a sudden, turning to look at the old man.

“If I could ask, what’s your name?” Wilbur asked.

The old man smiled. “I’m Benjamin Grayson.”

“The founding father?” Wilbur replied, shocked.

Benjamin waved a hand. “Bah! I’m just another old geezer.”

Wilbur fell deep into thought.

Benjamin Grayson was one of the founding fathers of Dasha. He made countless achievements and ended up as the highest chief-in-command in the army. He was greatly respected in the army and was also famous and garnered the respect of everyone in the country as well.

A brief pause later, Wilbur said, “Oh. I’m sorry for my poor manners just now, then. There’s hope for your illness, you know. If you believe me, why don’t we have a little chat elsewhere?”

The old man beamed. “I knew you were someone extraordinary. Why don’t we go to my house for a while?”

“Sure thing.” Wilbur nodded.

Just then, the girl said, “Grandpa, don’t believe him! He’s just a scammer who’s trying to get closer to you on purpose.”

“What’s there to scam out of an old geezer like me? You’re overthinking this.”

Benjamin gestured for Wilbur to follow him, and the two of them walked along the path together.

The girl was practically stomping with rage at the back. Her grandpa had been treated by the country’s best doctors to no avail, yet this cocky bastard was saying that he had a way? He was clearly making things up to butter up the Grayson family.

Yet she did not dare to go against what her grandfather wanted and could only help him home as she glared at Wilbur every opportunity she got.

Wilbur pretended not to notice it. Very soon, the two of them reached Benjamin’s house and sat down in the living room.

Benjamin asked, “Young man, are you able to tell what’s wrong with me?”

“Your old wounds are causing internal problems, and your age is making things worse. Your lungs are deteriorating by the day. You’d be long dead if it hadn’t been for the top medical support that you’re getting,” Wilbur said, getting straight to the point.

The old man’s eyes brightened at once. “How did you know that?”

“Observation,” Wilbur replied calmly.

The old man stopped short. “What fine observing skills you have. Do you have a solution, then?”

“Take off your shirt. I’ll guide some energy into your body, then give you a set of cultivation methods for you to follow. You’ll live past a hundred years if you do,” Wilbur said.

The old man frowned as he looked at Wilbur, then spoke up after a brief pause, “I guess my life isn’t over yet. Please, go ahead.”

The girl panicked. Seeing that her grandfather started to take his shirt off, she rushed forward to stop him. “Grandpa, are you really believing this? He’s clearly a scammer trying to get closer to the Grayson family for his own benefit! Don’t fall for it!”

“I’m just trying it out. What’s the harm in trying?” Benjamin said calmly.

The girl cried out, “You can’t be falling for this! What if he uses your name to do whatever he wants? He’ll ruin your legacy.”

Benjamin asked in a low voice, “What legacy of mine are you talking about? You think too highly of our family. Besides, can’t you take him down if he really turned out to be a scammer?”

The girl was speechless. She dared not retaliate against her grandfather. With that, she drew her spear and pointed it at Wilbur. “Get out of here right now.”
