Chapter 18 GRIM
“Relax Serena, I will make sure to find your father.” Damon told Serena on their ride to her house.Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
She was shaking and twirling her fingers and although he wanted to gather her up in his arms, he knew this was the time to leave her alone, instead Damon thought hard about how to proceed with the change in plans.
His father had been right, someone dangerous had snatched Serena’s father and it was all due to the drug bust, missing drugs worth billions of dollars. He had to get them back before this resulted into an all out war.
“Why do you think he was taken? What would they want from him?. I know how much of a chronic debtor my father is… I mean that is why I am here with you and I mean no offense with that statement. Do you think he is probably in debt again and this time around cannot weasel him way out of it by marrying off another daughter?” Serena asked bitterly.
“I have absolutely no idea, we have to arrive at your house to find out exactly what had happened and how he had been snatched but I don’t think this involves a debt… maybe your father has enemies or partners who he has recently entered trouble with?”
“That is an insanely direct question, Damon. If you know anything at all about this abduction, you should tell me. I really need to understand what is going on. I can only begin to imagine how badly my mother is taking the news right now.”
“If I had any idea what is going on, I cannot tell you because it would be mafia business which cannot be shared but I assure you that I will find your father and bring him back unharmed. I presume your sister is with your mother at this point, she will know how best to comfort her.”
“You are right, I am just scared. My father has always involved himself in shady businesses against the warnings of my mother and his better judgement. I don’t want anything happening to him regardless because it would deeply affect my mother.”
“I will find him” Damon reassured her, placing a hand on her thigh and then retrieving the hand when he deemed it too awkward.
They arrived at Serena’s parent’s house and met the cops who were just rounding up their questions and investigation. Most of them doffed their hats to acknowledge his presence while the new ones and majorly the holier than thous merely stared at him as he passed. Damon smiled grimly making a mental note to have the them fired, they would soon know who their real boss was.
Serena all but ran into the house and straight to her mother who wrapped arms around her.
“Serena, what am I going to do? He’s gone and I have no idea where he was taken… are they going to kill him? Are they going to murder my husband?.” She wailed uncontrollably.
“Nobody is going to kill him until we find him, it could be a normal kidnap that involves ransom, have you heard from anyone?” Serena asked.
She was still holding onto her mother’s shoulders which were shaking
“We have heard nothing at all, this is no kidnap, Serena. Your father has been involved in something for a while now that I have no idea of, I only know he was always out and inviting strange men into the house. I tried asking him about it but was only shunned, I believe that is why he is gone, he never did listen to anything I say.” Her mother said blowing her nose into the handkerchief in her hand
“Excuse me, I would like to speak to your mother, if you don’t mind.” This was Damon speaking.
Serena nodded and excused them both going in search for her sister, she had questions about jakes and she did not want to do it in front of Damon.
Damon waited until Serena’s mother had properly blown her nose before he began talking.
“I am truly sorry about your husband’s kidnap, if there is anything you need at all please make sure to reach out to me and my wife.”
“I am so sorry you are meeting us under such circumstance, I trust my daughter, Serena has been pleasant to you? You see she wasn’t the one you were to marry but we had to make do with…”
“Serena is perfect” Damon interrupted firmly
She looked at him weirdly and then nodded once.
“Did you ever see your husband with drugs or strange people.” He asked her directly, there was no need beating around the bush.
“Drugs? Never! But with strange people? Countless of times. Does this have anything to do with his disappearance?”
“I believe so. You see, your husband stole from us, he was involved in a drug deal to steal our products and now he has disappeared along with the location of the drugs.”
Serena’s mother looked like she had just been slapped and it gave Damon immense pleasure to watch her stutter for words, how dare she try to discredit Serena.
“I have no idea… I mean, he was always around strange people but drugs? Stealing from you who saved us from a life of debt, obviously he would not be that stupid.” She said.
“It would seem that he is indeed that stupid, Mrs…” Damon’s phone rang…
“If you would excuse me” he said and got up to answer.
“Yes…is that so?…hmmmm… have Santos meet me at the penthouse, I would be home soon.”
“It would seem that your husband was just sighted outside some unknown location, apparently all of these were just to stage his kidnap so he could run away without being suspected.” Damon said grimly turning to Serena’s mother.
“My husband is not like that, I am sure there is a reasonable explanation.” She sputtered.
Suddenly Damon saw through her ruse,
“You are part of his plan, aren’t you? To throw me off scent and track. I have to give it to you, you are one hell of an actress. You almost had me fooled and to think your daughter was worried sick about you both, disgusting.”
“I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about and you cannot hurt us, you are married to our daughter.”
“Look me in the eyes, do you think I give a fuck?” Damon said in a low threatening voice.
He received no response from her, just an uncomfortable eye shifting movement.
“When I find your husband, I am going to send his parts to you in a box.”
A gasp escaped her throat as Serena’s mother stared at him wide eyed
“Inform Serena of my departure, she is to stay here till I send for her.” Damon commander walking away.
He had urgent business to attend to.
