LILY
“I’ll take you home”
“As you please, ma’am,” he replied.
In a few minutes, we got to his house and I helped him get inside. When we got inside, I asked him where his first aid kit was and he told me it was in his room, the drawer beside his bed. I went in and got the kit, had him sit so I could tend to his wounds.
Before I could start anything, it started to rain very heavily. I panicked a bit when I thought I could be stuck in his house for the night.
“Could sting though. Hope you’re not a cry baby,” I rummaged through the well packed kit for anything useful.
“Try and see,” he chuckled. “Arghhh!” he groaned out of pain.
“Sorry.”
“Thanks.”
I then took out the cotton wool, cut out a bit and disinfected it.
“I rubbed it gently in the wound while he groaned. I cut out another bit of the cotton wool to clean the blood he had on his face.
“Ouch!” Cayden groaned. “Careful.”
“I’m being careful, Mr. Cayden,” I said sarcastically.
“You’re using this opportunity to take out your anger on me, right?” he said jovially.
“Should I?” I teased and we both giggled.
While cleaning the wound, I noticed it was a cut, quite deep but not deep enough to cause complications. The cut must have been caused by Jarod’s ring when he threw punches earlier.
“Uh-oh!” I exclaimed.
“What?” I sensed a bit of anxiety in Cayden’s voice. He must have wondered what made me exclaim the way I did. Well, I exclaimed that way on purpose to give him quite the scare.
“Shoot!” I exclaimed again, spiking Cayden’s curiosity and anxiety. “What happened?” he asked again.
“You sustained a cut. Looks like I’ll have to stitch it,” I said, carefully observing the injury.
“Can you even do that?!” he exclaimed wide-eyed.
“We’ll have to see.”
I sat next to him and tapped my lap gently, gesturing him to lay on it. “C’mon,” I beckoned.
“What?” he asked and I kept tapping my lap. “I should lay my head on your thighs?” he asked wide eyed, laying emphasis on ‘your thighs’.
“If it feels so awkward, you can go to a nearby pharmacy or better still, go to the hospital and get yourself treated, Mr. Cayden!” I fired.
“You really expect me to?” he whined.
“Should we go to the hospital instead?” I wore a smug look.
“Fine,” he agreed grudgingly after thinking about it briefly. He laid on his side on the couch and kept his head on my lap, exposing the wound to me.
I then took out the surgical suture from the kit and began stitching up the wound. I struggled to concentrate on what I was doing as I was easily distracted by his side view which was looking so handsome at the time. His jawline was perfectly curved and I couldn’t help but savor the view. I shrugged, shook off the unnecessary thoughts and focused on stitching his wound.
“All done,” I said when I finished stitching the wound and placing a band-aid. He then sat up beside me.
“How do you know how to do this?” he asked while I packed the kit.
“I studied nursing for a while before coming down to Nedford, Mister.” I took out the pain relief tablets from the kit and gave it to him, packed it up and kept it away.
I walked to his dining and got water for him. “Here you go,” I gave him the water and urged him to take his medicine.
“Thank you.” He took the medicine I gave him. “You studied nursing?” he asked.
“Briefly.”
“Wow, that’s nice.”
“Yeah?”
“Proves that I don’t even know much about you to start with,” he chuckled and I followed suit. “But why briefly though?” he asked again but I remained silent.
“It’s okay if you do not wish to talk about it. I won’t inquire any further.”
“No issues.”
“But why do you badly need my help? And why did you call it a matter of life and death?” I asked mildly. “You could get any lady you want, you know?” I added.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
“You really want to know?” he asked, staring directly into my eyes.
“I’m curious.”
“You keep me going.”
“Excuse you?” I scoffed.
“Sounds weird, right? I know,” he chuckled. “I just want you around, and besides, you ruined two of my dates, remember?” he reminded me.
“If you really do need a companion so bad for an important event…,” I paused and got his exclusive attention, as he stared at me keenly, “why don’t I play the part?” I concluded my statement and burst into a hysteric laughter almost immediately. He didn’t seem to understand really well why I laughed the way I did, so he just smiled, watching me laugh my heart out.
“Umm… that could actually…,” I cut him off.
“I’ve been hooked up with ‘me’ that I actually ignored what I was supposed to do,” my tone was quite serious. “I want to apologize to you. I’m sorry for sabotaging your date plans the last time,” I apologized.
“You?” Cayden seemed a bit shocked. “Why would you do that though? Did something happen?” he asked.
“I sensed so much red flags from Anna that I thought to protect you from,” I explained and noticed he let out an archaic smile.
“And?”
“She said she hated children; I just couldn’t concur with her.”
“Hated children?” he sounded a bit confused
“Yes!” I affirmed.
“Can I see it?”
“What?”
“Your texts.”
“Oh, sure!” I brought out my phone from my bag and showed him our messages. He read through them.
“How could anyone hate kids? I mean, they’re so adorable, right?”
“Of course, they are, Lily,” he giggled.
“You’re not mad, right?”
“Not at all,” he shook his head signifying a ‘no’.
“Anyway, I’m sorry for what happened,” I said apologetically.
“It’s okay, miss. Thank you for thinking about my interests,” he smiled warmly. “And thank you for this,” he pointed his banded wound.
“You’re more than welcome,” I smiled. “What did you do with the gifts Anna retuned?”
“Guess.”
“You didn’t pick it up, right?”
“Bingo!” he exclaimed hysterically and we both laughed.
