“Lola, will you regret marrying me?”
Dominick, clad in a sharp suit, looked intently at the girl before him. Lola was stunning in her flawless white wedding

There she stood like a fairy, her bright eyes mirroring his impeccable features. She smiled, her words sounding like a solemn vow. “No. I will never regret marrying you, Dominick…”
‘Dominick. I regret it now!”
After a night of rain, the morning finally cleared up, and the sky was a pure, washed blue. The afternoon sun shone through the window, casting its light on a pale hospital bed, where a frail figure lay. The opulent yet chilly hospital room was unnervingly silent, lacking even a hint of warmth.
Lola gazed silently out the window. The spark that once danced in her eyes was now extinguished.
“She is also a lady of a wealthy family, but the treatment sure is quite different.”
“Tell me about it. Poor Ms. Moore, her husband passed away not long ago, and now she’s had a miscarriage. It seems unfair that life is hardest on the kindest people. Yet, her unique bond with the Sinclair brothers is truly remarkable.”
Two nurses pushing an IV cart entered, speaking in hushed tones.
“I heard that Ms. Moore fell down the stairs and…” One of the nurses gestured towards Lola lying in the bed before continuing…that’s what caused her miscarriage.”
The other nurse’s eyes widened in shock.
“No wonder! The rooms of them are right next to each other, but Ms. Moore’s room not only had Mr. Sinclair staying overnight but also Mr. Frank Sinclair and her wife, the old lady of the family, and a bunch of servants. But this room is so cold and empty.”
The other nurse sighed, “In high society, it’s all about marrying your equal. Mrs. Jessica Sinclair is the pride of the Moores. Mrs. Lola Sinclair was once the Mitchell family’s lady, but with the real daughter’s return, she’s just adopted child with a mysterious past.
The nurses were so absorbed in their gossip and didn’t expect to be interrupted by a faint voice.
“There were many people in the room next door?”
Startled, the nurses looked towards the bed and saw Lola, who had awakened at some point, quietly gazing
g out the
window.
After a long silence with no response from the two, Lola slowly turned her head to look at them, her face so pale it seemed devoid of any color. Her eyes, calm like a still pond, seemed untouched by any storm, no matter how severe.
“Hmm?” Lola pressed on.
The nurses shared a hesitant glance before nodding in agreement.
Lola’s eyelids drooped as she slowly turned her head back towards the window.
The nurses approached quietly, first checking her blood pressure and then her temperature. They lifted the blanket to check for any unusual signs. Throughout the examination, Lola maintained an eerie composure, as if she were detached from her own body being examined.
“Mrs. Sinclair, the miscarriage has damaged your uterus. Coupled with the cold you’ve caught, it may pose challenges for future conception, one of the nurses said.
Although she knew these words were cruel to a woman who had just suffered a miscarriage, she felt compelled to say them. Lola had been brought into the surgery room covered in blood the night before, and they had nearly thought she wouldn’t survive. From emergency care to being moved to the ward, not a single member of the Sinclair family had appeared. Even her hospital room had been arranged by the hospital staff
A call of “Mrs. Sinclair‘ momentarily dazed Lola. Memories of the rain–soaked, blood–tainted night wrapped around her, pulling her into a deep, mournful silence.
It was unclear how much time had passed before Lola opened her eyes again to look out the window. The sky had darkened. People often didn’t know what they truly wanted. Lola was aware that Jessica was in the adjacent ward, surrounded by people who loved her, including Lola’s husband. Yet, despite this knowledge. Lola still felt the need to
sec.
Maybe she needed to see if Dominick shed the ruthlessness and coldness he showed her when he was with the one he loved.
Or perhaps, she hoped seeing Dominick caring for another woman would extinguish her lingering feelings.
The corridor was empty, echoing only with distant, muffled voices. Jessica’s room was close, merely a wall apart. Having just suffered a miscarriage, Lola was extremely weak. She could only rely on the handrails along the wall to slowly make her way to the nearby room.
The luxurious hospital room had two doors with glass that were so clean that they were nearly transparent. This pristine clarity allowed Lola to see the two figures embracing inside.
She immediately recognized one of the figures standing beside the bed. He was the man who had cradled her in his arms countless times. Yet now, the woman in his arms wasn’t her. It was Jessica Moore, the lady of the Sinclair family. Dominick’s brother’s wife.
Jessica’s delicate form rested in his embrace, her arms encircling his waist. She seemed to be sobbing, or perhaps pouring out her grievances, her voice soft and weak as it echoed through the hospital room.
“Dominick, please don’t be harsh on Lola. I believe it was a mistake. After all, she has had a hard life. You married her to put your mind at ease and to comfort Landon. She always thought you liked her. Yet in the end, you were using
her!”
Lola stopped, staring blankly at the two figures embracing inside.
At that moment, her mind went blank, as if she were the only one left in the world, and Jessica’s voice echoed in her cars like a spell.
You married her to put your mind at ease and to comfort Landon. She always thought you liked her. Yet, in the end, you were using her!
‘She always thought you liked her. Yet in the end you were using her…
You were using her…
Lola stood there with her mouth agape, as if every sound were caught in her throat. She pounded on her chest in desperation. ‘Dominick, it hurts so much. Tears cascaded down her face. She wanted to leave, but her legs felt as heavy as lead, rooted in place.
Meanwhile, Jessica’s voice continued to echo from the hospital room.
Once I laces death, I grasped lite’s true value. My child is dead. He just went to keep landon company so he
would be alone
“Donnick, my child is gone, and Lola’s child is gone to The children are no longer a barrier between us
“I don’t want to waste any more time. Let’s start anew, together?
Seemingly sensing something, Dominick tuned to look at the door.
Through the clear glass, he could see the hallway was empty. Dominick glance in felly before looking back at Jessica But little did he know that Iola had collapsest on the floor outside, biting her lips forcefully to muttle her soles.
Her tears dropped to the floor, echoing her loneliness, as she rose to her feet and rushed out of the hospital:
In a secluded, dark corner behind the hospital, Lola crouched on the ground, biting her lips hard to suppress her solis. Her wails clawes at her as desperately, as it to distract from the ache in her heart. Before long, her pale arms were streaked with trails of blood, a stark and harrowing sight
It hurts so much. Dominick! Why are you doing this to me? Why?
It took some time for Lola to regain her composure. The night wind after the rain was cool. She walked out of the hospital in a daze, but shortly after she left, two glaring headlights suddenly shone from behind.
A black vehicle stopped beside Lola with a screeching soud, and several men in black got out of the car.
Lola was startled and turned around, but before she could see clearly, a black cloth was suddenly thrown over her head Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her neck before everything faded into darkness….
