Redmption 15
Chapter 15
Even though Lisa sensed that I wasn't telling the whole truth, she didn't press further. She only replied, "Alright, let me know if there's any news. By the way, where are you going today? If you don't feel like going back to the Gildon estate, you can come to my place."
Lisa was on night duty today, so her place was the most convenient option.
I didn't want to go back to the Gildon estate, especially now that Chris and I were sharing a room. But staying at Lisa's place indefinitely wasn't appropriate either, even though she didn't have a boyfriend at the moment. Everyone needed their own private space.
"Okay," I agreed. At least until I found a place to stay, her place was better than a hotel.
Although I had a place to sleep for the night, I didn't head there directly. Instead, I drove to the outskirts of the city. This area was an old part of town, but it was still densely populated, mostly by renters due to the low rent.NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.
I came here because this was where my home was. Before my parents passed away, the three of us lived here. At that time, it wasn't an old part of town; it was an economically vibrant and convenient location. But in the span of ten years, it had lost its former glory.
While most of the apartments in our old neighborhood were rented out, my home wasn't. It had been preserved with my parents' clothes and shoes still in their original places. Whenever I missed them, I could come here to feel closer to them, though I hadn't visited much in recent years. Gradually, they faded from my memories and daily life.
It took me half an hour to finally arrive in my car. I took the key from the glove compartment and went upstairs to unlock the door.
As soon as I entered, I was greeted by the smell of dust from a place long uninhabited. The furniture was covered in a layer of dust, and since the house hadn't been lived in for a long time, the electricity was cut off.
Fortunately, I had the account number for the electricity bill. I quickly topped it up, and soon the power was back on.
With the lights on, I walked through each room before finally arriving at my bedroom. Seeing the pink bedspread, I suddenly made a decision.
I didn't need to go anywhere else; I would live here.
Although it was a half-hour drive, it wasn't too far. It took just as long to get to the company from the Gildon estate.
With this idea in mind, I immediately started cleaning. By 10:00 pm, the house was spotless.
However, my phone never rang. I had only received a text from Lisa. The message read, " The woman and the child are fine."
That was good news. That meant that the intern wouldn't be fired.
That night, I slept in my parents' house. Surprisingly, I wasn't scared at all. On the contrary, I slept well.
The next morning, I visited the amusement park instead of going to the company. While organizing the report yesterday, I noticed a discrepancy between the design and the actual construction. I needed to confirm it on-site.
Sure enough, upon inspection, I found differences from the original design. I called the person in charge, and we discussed the revision plan on-site.
It was already noon by the time we finished.
Thinking about how I needed some items for the house, I went to the mall. While choosing bed linens, I happened to run into Jewel. It seemed her baby was indeed fine. Still, her panic yesterday was genuinely frightening.
Now I understood that she had done it to make Chris worry. Well, it worked.
Chris denied having any special feelings for her. I, too, didn't believe he was in love with her. However, his behavior toward Jewel was undeniably abnormal.
Jewel was telling the sales assistant what she wanted. "Nothing too flashy. I was something that feels mature and steady, preferably with a sense of restraint."
"Is this for your boyfriend?" the sales assistant asked.
Jewel just smiled without answering.
Boyfriend?
I felt a bit puzzled but didn't approach them. Instead, I went to another section to choose my bed linens. However, our paths crossed again.
As the sales assistant was helping me with the checkout, Jewel came over to pay as well.
I froze when she handed over her card.
She was using Chris' supplementary card.
