Redmption 31
Redmption 31
I hadn’t intended to dwell on these thoughts. But Conrad’s words seemed to have flipped a switch, and memories started playing in my mind.
“What did he do? Can you tell me?” Conrad probed cautiously in my silence.
If I didn’t explain, they’d remain confused. Chris would think I was just being
I unreasonable. Plus, Bree and Zack would still ask after I returned in a few days.
The best way to deal with this was to explain everything now, so I wouldn’t have to face it again later.
“He cheated on me with another woman,” I said and there was immediate silence on the other end.
I knew Conrad probably didn’t believe me, so I added, “It was with his friend’s -wife. Even your parents are aware of the rumors.”
Conrad remained silent. I chuckled, “You knew from the start, right?”
There were no secrets that stayed hidden forever. Since Chris and I didn’t get married, his parents would’ve investigated. And Chris wouldn’t have ignored Zack’s inquiries.
“Chris likes you so much. It’s impossible. There must be some
misunderstanding.” First, Conrad said I loved Chris. Now, he said Chris loved Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
1. me.
It wasn’t surprising that Conrad thought this way. During those years he was around, Chris often called me his wife and didn’t allow other men near me. He even protested when Conrad and I got too close.
“People change, Conrad…” I said as I heard footsteps outside the door. I looked up and saw a robust figure flash past the window.
Then, I heard Kelly’s voice in the courtyard. “Brandon, you’re back?”
It seemed to be the tenant whose room wanted to switch to. Kelly’s question confirmed my thoughts as she asked the tenant about switching rooms.
He responded curtly, “No.”
The poor sound insulation of the house allowed Conrad to hear the noise
outside too. “Maddie, where are you? It’s late. You shouldn’t be outside. It’s not
safe.”
I snapped back to reality. “Conrad, tell Bree and Zack that I’m fine. I’m just on vacation and decided to go on a trip. And… even though Chris and I didn’t get married, Bree and Zack are still my family”
“What about me?” Conrad asked jokingly
I smiled too, seeing my reflection in the glass window. “You’ll always be my
brother.”
“Take care of yourself…” Conrad said.
“Alright. Let me know when you come back,” I said casually.
Unexpectedly, he responded, “I thought you wouldn’t want me to come back.”
I was confused. “Why not?”
“It’s late. You should rest,” Conrad said and hung up.
I sighed and put down my phone. Then, I heard the sound of water running outside.
“Brandon, why are you washing your hair with water again? You’ll catch a cold,” Kelly nagged.
Recalling how decisively this person had refused earlier, I got up and opened
the door.
In the dim light, a man in an army green tank top was washing his hair.
The sound of water running sounded as his fingers deftly scrubbed at his hair. His movements were quick and efficient. As the water stopped, he stood up.
He had broad shoulders and defined muscles along with a narrow waist and long legs. A brown leather belt was cinched at his waist. He looked both sexy and strong, with a hint of wildness.
I was staring in a daze when the man suddenly turned around. Our eyes met, and his dark eyes narrowed slightly.
I was stunned.
It was the taxi driver who looked like he had just gotten out of prison.
