Dont Play with me
Anne appeared busy once again in the kitchen. This time, she was preparing Lasagna. Somehow, she was certain that Kaivan would enjoy the dish she was cooking now.
Focused on her cooking, Anne didn’t notice that Meggy had approached. Kaivan’s assistant might have just finished arranging Anne’s belongings, which had been moved to the main room.
“Ma’am, what are you doing?”
Anne, slightly startled, turned around. The beautiful woman then smiled.
“I’m preparing lunch for Kaivan,” she replied.
“Do you want me to help, Ma’am?” Meggy offered.
“No need, I can handle it myself. Besides, it’s almost done.”
Meggy nodded in understanding. She prepared to leave. “Then I’ll excuse myself. I’ve already tidied up all your things in the main room.”
“Thank you,” Anne replied politely. “But you should stay here. I want you to taste the food I just finished cooking.”
“But Ma’am, isn’t that excessive?” Meggy felt uneasy about tasting the food prepared by her employer’s wife.
“Why would it be excessive?” Anne asked. “It’s just food. Don’t think too much about it.”
Seeing Meggy’s hesitation, Anne walked closer. She pulled the sleeve of her husband’s assistant to prompt her to sit at the dining chair. Shortly after, Anne served a bowl of lasagna for Meggy to enjoy.
“Please, enjoy. I happened to make a lot. You can take some for Mike as well.”
“But Ma’am, this is too much. Mr. Kaivan might get angry if he sees me sitting at the dining area like this.”
Instead of worrying, Anne smiled. She doubted what she had just heard. Could Kaivan really get angry about something so trivial?
“Has Kaivan ever been angry at you?”
Meggy paused for a moment, recalling whether her employer had ever scolded her.
“As far as I remember, no. Your husband is the type of man who’s firm about work but very friendly in everyday life.”
“Well then, why should you be afraid? Besides, no need to worry. I’m sure my husband won’t be mad if he sees you eating here with me.”
Continuously reassured, Meggy finally mustered the courage to accept Anne’s offer. Slowly, she picked up a spoon and took a bite of the food. After experiencing the flavor, she spoke.
“The food you cooked is truly delicious.”
Anne responded with a radiant face.
“Really?”
“Absolutely. It’s not excessive, Ma’am,” Meggy answered with a nod. “No wonder Mr. Kaivan seemed uncomfortable when I recently served food from the hotel’s chef. Although before that, I always saw him finish the food you cooked.”
“You’re exaggerating.” Anne blushed. “But by the way, if I may know, has Kaivan ever brought another woman to this room?”
Meggy shook her head firmly.
“You’re the first and only woman he’s brought to this room.”
“Oh, really? Are you sure I’m the first one? What about Veronica? I often see her coming to this hotel.” Anne inquired, investigating further.
“To my knowledge, Miss Veronica is just a regular dating partner. Your husband has known her for a long time. But you should also know…” Meggy suddenly leaned in. Kaivan’s assistant then whispered, “Madam Laura and Mr. Kenzi themselves don’t like that woman. That’s why, no matter how close Mr. Kaivan is to Miss Veronica, he won’t marry her.”
Anne furrowed her brow upon hearing this news.
“Why would that be? Has Veronica done something wrong?”
Meggy shrugged her shoulders.
“I don’t know, Ma’am. But according to rumors, Miss Veronica is only after Mr. Kaivan’s wealth. It’s clear from her face that she’s not sincere. Even Mike often mocks her as a seductive woman.”
“Oh, my…” Anne burst into laughter. “How could you draw conclusions like that?”
“That’s the reality, Ma’am. Her aura is different from Mr. Kaivan’s other dating partners.”
Laughing, Anne reached for the glass of water beside her and took a sip until it was empty. A moment later, she asked Meggy to finish her meal.
After her assistant left, Anne immediately checked her phone. She found Kaivan’s contact and sent him a short message.
Anne: [Have you had lunch?]
Kaivan: [Not yet. I still have some work to finish.]
Anne: [I just finished cooking Lasagna. If you want, I can bring it to your office.]
Kaivan: [Sure, if it’s not too much trouble, I’d happily have it.]
While reading Kaivan’s short message, Anne smiled. She then got up from her seat. However, before she could leave, she replied to his message once again.
Anne: [In that case, wait a moment. I’ll prepare it and bring the food to your office.]
Kaivan: [Ok, see you later, Anne]
With a sense of urgency, Anne packed the lasagna she had cooked earlier into a silver lunch box. Before leaving, she changed her clothes and applied a light makeup to her face. She ensured her appearance was perfect before meeting her husband.
Feeling confident, she strolled out of the room. Along the way down the hotel corridor, she kept a continuous smile on her face. She responded warmly to anyone who greeted her. When she arrived at Kaivan’s door, she confidently turned the doorknob to enter.
However, before the door could fully open, Anne was taken aback by what she saw. Right before her eyes, she witnessed her husband in the act of kissing a woman who was none other than Veronica.
Meanwhile, Kaivan, realizing someone was present, turned his head abruptly. He was startled to see his wife standing at the doorway.
“Anne… I can explain to you. It is not —”
No matter the name he called, Anne paid no attention. She chose to leave, simmering with her own frustration. Wiping away her tears, she placed the lunch box she had brought on Kaivan’s secretary’s desk. She then strode back to her room. Once inside, she locked the door tightly and soon found herself sinking onto the bed. She continued to curse inwardly, frustrated by the high expectations she had held.
