Chapter 3510 Orla's Request
Toliver led Matthew to a door outside a room.
"Mr. Larden, the Governor is waiting for you inside," he announced.
Matthew nodded and stepped forward, heading straight for the room.
As he pushed open the wooden door, a display of glinting weapons greeted him. Each blade reflected a cold, sharp light. Standing before the array of blades was Orla Lew, clad in light armor.
She held a piece of cloth in her hand, meticulously polishing the sword she carried. Today, she seemed like a completely different person compared to the day before. Her presence radiated strength and resolve, her hair tied high in a practical ponytail. She exuded a heroic and commanding energy, like a warrior prepared for battle. When she noticed Matthew, her previously calm expression softened into a smile.
"Mr. Larden, you're here." she greeted warmly.
Since inheriting the position of Governor, Orla had always maintained a pleasant expression in public.
Her emotions were inscrutable, and her serene smile masked her true thoughts.noveldrama
Even when she was taking a life, her gentle smile could make onlookers shudder.
"As the Governor summoned me, I wouldn't dare refuse," Matthew replied, bowing slightly as a sign of respect. "Please, have a seat."
As she spoke, she gestured toward a chair in front of her.
Matthew nodded and approached the chair, deliberately leaving the door open behind him.
He wasn't entirely sure what Orla was planning.
However, he figured it was best to play it safe by leaving the door open.
The last thing he wanted was to wake up to rumors spreading like wildfire across Ore Island.
Just as he sat down, a loud thud echoed through the room.
The wooden door, previously ajar, had been shut.
The room was now completely sealed, preventing anyone from seeing inside.
Matthew's expression remained calm as if such an occurrence had no bearing on him.
"Well then, Governor, may I ask why you've summoned me?" Matthew inquired, his tone composed.
Orla's lips curved in amusement at Matthew's composed demeanor.
In the past, men who laid eyes on her often displayed a range of emotions-greed, desire, astonishment, and the like.
Even
had be
ver, her loyal steward who
so her for years, would still
they crossed paths.
It was the very reason he usually kept his head lowered during close interactions with her.
Yet Matthew's reaction was entirely different. When he looked at her, his gaze held no trace of admiration or awe.
His eyes were calm, as though Orla were just another ordinary person in his view.
Seeing there was no use testing him further, Orla dropped her pretense. Her smile faded, replaced by a serious expression.
The air in the room grew heavy as she locked her gaze on him.
"Matteo, I need your help with something."
A faint blush appeared on her cheeks as she thought of the request she was about to make.
"When I was born, my father's
closest friend had a child around the
same time, she began. "The two families were so close that they arranged for us to be betrothed as children. But later, my father's friend left to seek fortune elsewhere, and we all assumed the matter had been forgotten."
For a brief moment, Orla's confident and commanding presence softened, replaced by a trace of youthful worry.
"Just a few days ago, I received a
letter from him—the man I was promised to marry. He says his family has established themselves and will arrive at the West Montiría Islands by the end of the month. At that time, he intends to fulfill the marriage arrangement."
Orla's gaze rested on Matthew, her eyes betraying her distress.
"So, Mr. Larden, the favor I need to ask of you is..."
Her cheeks deepened in color as she added, "Please, pretend to marry me!"
What do you think?
