Chapter 27 Back in the Day
When Alicia came out after changing her clothes, Eli had already left.
Edmond saw that she wore a white dress, dressed innocently and well-behaved, and immediately knew where she would go.
"Let's go together," Edmond stated.
"They only asked for me," Alicia answered.
"Well, I don't need approval before returning home." Edmond rebutted.
Alicia gave up refusing his offer and allowed Edmond to send her to the Agos Mansion.
The elderly couple were surprised to see them both returning together.
Peter immediately called Alicia to his study room.
"The scandal was an attempt to piss Ed off?" Peter cut straight to the point.
This kind of trick was commonly seen in higher society, and getting exposed was normal. Alicia nodded her head and acknowledged her doings, "Yes."
"So, did Ed get jealous?" Peter asked.
"I guess not," Alicia replied.
Peter snorted coldly and complained, "That fool."
Alicia was surprised by his reaction and questioned, "Do you not blame me?"
"Why would I blame you? It was Ed who was in the wrong in the first place. Even if you really cheated on him, he deserved it." Peter explained.
The outcome was not what Alicia had expected.
She almost wondered if Edmond was actually an adopted child instead.
"Do you remember our discussion about Ed back in the study room during your sophomore year?" Peter asked again.
She was slightly stunned and pursed her lips before nodding.
Alicia recalled the situation back then...
During her sophomore year, Peter called her to the study room.
"Licia, I'm an old acquaintance of your biological parents." Peter started the topic.
Alicia stared at Peter in shock before shakingly asking, "How are they doing now?"
"They passed away in a car accident when you had just turned a month old. When I learned about the incident, you were already ten years old. I had sent my men to search in all the orphanages in Arnoford City before I finally found out your whereabouts." Peter explained patiently.
Only then did Alicia realize why she was chosen out of a dozen kids that year.
It turned out that Peter was there for her.
After coming of age, she finally learned about the news about her biological parents. She was slightly agitated and saddened.
"Can I have a look at their pictures?" Alicia asked timidly.
Peter passed over her parent's photo to her.
Alicia then realized that she looked a lot like her mother.
She caressed the photo softly. Her nose twitched, and Peter suddenly interjected when she was about to weep.
"There's one more thing. I had an agreement with your parents about an arranged marriage for you."
Alicia did not expect Peter to mention this topic suddenly and looked up at him in dismay and shock.
Then Peter went on.
"Originally, I didn't plan to tell you this, but I noticed you seem to have a slight crush on Ed. So, if you don't mind, I'd like you two to be engaged next month and get married after you graduate from the university."
Alicia clutched the corner of her shirt and was overwhelmed by the sudden news, and her face was flushed.
"I... this..." Alicia stammered.
"Hahaha! Are you getting shy? Kalinda was right. You and Ed took a liking to each other. Since that's the case, I'll arrange the engagement for you both." Peter laughed and explained.
Alicia was taken aback.
"No... We are just only friends right now. We aren't in that kind of relationship yet. Besides, I still hope to go with the flow regarding marriage..."
Her whole face was flushed when she tried to explain it to Peter.Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Although Peter really wanted Alicia to be his daughter-in-law, he still could understand a girl's mentality, so he nodded in agreement.
"All right. Since you two almost got together, we'll talk about that once you both are officially in a relationship."
Thus, the engagement was put on hold.
When Alicia was leaving the study room, her clothes were wrinkled by her fumbling due to nervousness. She did not expect to see Edmond on her way out, so she fled away hurriedly as she did not know how to face him.
After that incident, Alicia avoided Edmond as she dared not face him.
After all, it was the first time she had fallen in love, and it took her a few days to calm herself down.
Plus, she even sought advice from her best male friend.
It took her lots of courage to try and confess to Edmond, but Alicia saw him walking down the street with another girl and behaving intimately...
Alicia's thoughts were pulled back to the present.
Peter sighed as he watched Alicia's cold and silent expression.
He remembered that the young girl sitting across the desk used to have eyes so bright and excited for the future.
However, although Alicia looked very beautiful, her eyes were clouded with many deep hidden secrets.
After a moment of weighing, Peter said, "I thought that once you and Ed married, he would behave and stop flirting around. I didn't expect that your relationship would worsen after the marriage. Licia, let's forget about the agreement you signed two years ago. If you don't like Edmond anymore, you can get a divorce at any time as you wish..."
