Chapter 2031
Chapter 2031
"You had no choice on the battlefield."
Persephone looked at him with her crystal eyes. There was a magical power in them. Even if a devil
was tearing him apart, her eyes would always bring him back to light.
She smiled and caressed his cheek. "Though you killed your father, you saved the country."
"Do you really... think so?"
She nodded. "You're not at fault. He was the one who made a mistake. You were just fulfilling your job
as a general to protect the country.
"But I also understand that he's your father who brought you up, after all. You guys must have had
happy days before that happened, right?"
Morpheus held his head low in silence.
"You did well as the protector of the country," she said softly. "But as a son, you can secretly pay
homage to him."
Persephone held his hand. "Reconcile with your father, Morpheus. You'll also reconcile with yourself by
doing that, okay?"
He was stunned for a long time and felt a lump in his throat. This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Morpheus stayed with Persephone in the ward that night and heard a faint voice at midnight. He
suddenly saw a dimmed light at the door when he opened his eyes half-asleep.
He was alerted at once while the figure in the dimmed light turned around slowly.
Stunned, he couldn't speak no matter what.
"I'm leaving." That person smiled at him. Although there was still mockery in the smile, it was a smile of
relief. "Be happy with her!"
Morpheus opened his mouth but couldn't say a word.
"Get the culprit at once if you really care for her. Then, kill that murderer like I did back then! Can you
do it?"
The figure disappeared right after saying that.
Choking, Morpheus observed in silence. He abruptly woke up as a tear fell.
"W-What's wrong, Morpheus?"
Morpheus opened his eyes and realized that Persephone was up too, staring at him with her sleepy
eyes.
"I'm sorry. Did I wake you?"
"You didn't." She chuckled. "You didn't make a sound, but you kept moving."
Morpheus calmed down, his heart still pounding. It was a dream, but it didn't feel like a dream. Perhaps
his father's soul really bid farewell to him.
He would no longer appear in his dreams or interrupt his life.
In reality, his father loved him.
Morpheus took deep breaths, attempting to suppress his tears.
Persephone moved around. There was a tearing pain that came from the burnt wound after the
painkiller wore off.
Noticing that, Morpheus got the nurse over to change her bandages.
The princess was brave and didn't make a sound. Nevertheless, the wounds remained terrifying.
He held her, feeling regretful to see the wounds.
"Don't worry. It doesn't hurt." It was she who comforted him instead. "The ointment has pain-numbing
effects. It won't hurt anymore!"
"Sephy..." Morpheus looked at her. "There will be officers coming for investigation from tomorrow
onward."
"Okay."
He licked his lips, his eyes dim. "I think I know who it is!"
