Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 835

Blaine was still being stubborn.

Selena knew changing his mind wasn't going to happen overnight. She firmly told him to chill out before they talked again, then ended the call.

Back inside, Ava had already settled Alexa in the guest room and was coming down the stairs.noveldrama

When she saw Selena, Ava sighed, shaking her head. "Poor thing. How could Mr. Bane treat his wife like that?"

She had always thought Mr. Bane was a rare gentleman, given how nice and gentle he usually was.

Guess all men really are the same.

Selena gave Ava a quick rundown: "Take good care of her. Whatever she needs, make it happen."

Ava, already a pro at looking after expecting mothers, confidently thumped her chest in assurance. She had it covered!

As night fell, Selena headed upstairs.

She first spent some time with her kids, making sure they fell asleep, before retreating to her room.

After a shower, she lay down and checked her phone. There were a bunch of unread messages, but not a single one from Everett.

His visit yesterday and all the things he said felt like a fleeting dream.

Selena couldn't help but wonder if she had imagined it all.

Otherwise, how could he promise to rekindle their romance, yet go silent the very next day?

Heh.

Maybe it was just all talk.

Deciding not to obsess over it, Selena tossed her phone aside, took her medication, and went to sleep.

...

The next day marked the anniversary celebration of Newport's top university, and they had invited notable alumni to give talks and inspire the current students.

The university was pulling out all the stops, even having the event broadcast live by several media outlets.

Selena's car cruised onto the campus, parking alongside another car that had arrived at the same time.

As Selena stepped out, so did someone from the other car.

Looking up, she saw Joy in a sharp black suit.

Joy had finally ditched her usual pastel outfits, returning to her comfort zone.

It had to be said, this power outfit suited her way better.

Sadly, her demeanor had changed completely. What used to be fierce and commanding now had an icy, resentful edge, making her look harsh.

Walking back onto the campus where they had spent four years together, Selena felt a twinge of regret.

Joy was the first to approach, sneering, "Selena, didn't think you'd dare show up. Still love being in the spotlight, huh?"

Selena shot back, "If you can be here, why can't I? I walk the straight and narrow, Joy. I've got nothing to hide, unlike some who live in the shadows and think everyone else does too."

Joy's face darkened.

Selena, not interested in any more drama, walked off with Holt.

Joy glared at her retreating figure, nearly grinding her teeth to dust, but then a

thought crossed her mind, and she smirked.

Love the spotlight, do you?

I'll make sure you have more attention than you ever wanted!

The kind that ruins reputations!

And this time, no one will be there to save you!

...

Over at the clinic, a whole day and night had passed, but Everett was still out

cold, showing no signs of waking up.

Alex, worried sick, directly

questioned Dr. Stone, "Why has Mr.

Everett been asleep for so long?

What's going on? When's he gonna

wake up?"
