Jailed
CHAPTER 47: Jailed
– LIA –
DARKNESS greeted me when I opened my eyes. Well, I’m not even sure if my eyes were already opened. There is no hint of brightness in every space. I tried to blink my eyes, but the same thing greeted me whenever it is close or open.
All black.
However, that darkness didn’t stop me from thinking that there are people near me. I can hear small muffling sounds. I don’t know where they are coming from.
Sound of footsteps and metal clicking echoed in my ear. That felt like it came from a nearby place, but I can point which direction I should go.
I opened my mouth, trying to ask for help. But no words came out.
I became mute. Or maybe, it was because my throat felt so dry that I can’t talk. I can’t even let out a small moan.
I tried to stand up, hoping that would bump into something, maybe a door, that can lead me to the exit. I badly want to leave this place. The darkness is making me uncomfortable and scared.
Sound of metal clicking was heard while I was standing up. My wrist suddenly felt heavy and cold.
When I noticed that I can move, I hurriedly ran to nowhere. But I haven’t even made five steps when something suddenly pulled back from my previous place.
I felt like I was pulled too harshly. My back electrified in pain as it bumped on something hard with a lot of force.
I raised my hand. Like earlier, they were heavy. Trying to touch my wrist using one of my hands, I did my best to find where it is.
Something cold was touched by fingers. This things was encircled on my wrist. I tried to remove it, but it won’t go through.
While I was so occupied on removing that thing on my wrist, a creaking sound was heard. With that, light entered the whole area I’m in.
I was thinking that I should feel hopeful with that, but my body has it’s own mind. I unconsciously crawled to a corner and hid my self using my arms while bending my knees.
My body is shaking uncontrollably. Tears started to fall on my cheeks and I can’t look at the light.
Am I too used to be in darkness that light scares me now?
I felt someone moved closer to me. Their warmth is covering the coldness of the metals on my body.
“My men told me that you tried escaping. Again,” a man’s cold voice sent shivers down to my spine.
A hand was placed on my head. Suddenly, he grabbed my head and forced me to look up at him.
I tried to say “no” and plead at him, but I can’t. No words came out from my mouth. It was just opened. Even my tears are sliding down inside my mouth.
“If you’re not a prized possession, I would have killed you the first time you disobeyed me,” he said firmly before shaking my head while gripping my hair.
“I told you not to piss me off!” he screamed. “Hardheaded! Disappointment!”
His breath became heavy. I closed my eyes because simply looking at him makes me afraid. But he won’t let me do it. He slapped my face and forced me to open my eyes.
“Don’t you dare close your eyes! Look at me!”
He tried to pinch my eyelids and pull it up so that it will open. It hurts so much, especially when a fingernail scratched my eyelids as if it’s trying to enter my eye.
Stop! Stop!
I want to scream, but I can’t. I opened my eyes with the fear that I might go blind.
If that happens, I won’t be able to escape this place anymore.
His fingernails are just a few centimeters away from my eye. It was so close that I can feel the pointy end of it scratching me even though those parts have no physical contact.
The man grinned at me. Fury is evident in his eyes but he’s grinning. He didn’t say anything, instead, he slapped my face multiple times. Every hit was conducted with a lot of force that my cheeks went numb after the third strike.
“Stop…” I whispered in the middle of him harassing me. My voice was cracked and hoarse, and it also sounds a little pitchy, like a voice of a child.
Suddenly, a new voice was heard. “Count David, they already closed the case.”
He is gritting his teeth but amusement filled his eyes. “Eirha, Young Lady of the Cortez,” he said firmly. “Do you know that your parents already stopped looking for you?”
I was stunned by his statement. It didn’t register on me first, but when it finally made sense, I shook my head repeatedly.
The man grabbed my face and forced me to look up at him. He was grinning from ear to ear, like he was enjoying what’s happening to me.
“For them, you’re already dead. So there’s no point escaping.”
Anger rises inside of me. I’m not dead! I’m sure that Mama and Papa are still looking for me! They love me!
“Starting from today, we’ll destroy your house. I’ll make sure that your family will lose all of your wealth and connections. Do you know what will happen after that?” he smiled slowly before spatting a petrifying laugh that echoed inside the room.
“We’ll be the new partner family of the Gonzales!” he exclaimed. His eyes were full of excitement and greed. “The Lopez will have all of the power! We’ll have the support of the Royal Family! We will be on top!”
Disgusted by his words and being angered at the same time, I spit on his face before biting his arms. I made sure that my teeth will leave a deep mark on his skin. I can even taste his blood and dead skin as I bit him repeatedly.
“Stupid child!”
He grabbed my hair again before slamming my head into the wall. The force was too much for me to handle. Everything became blurry, but I can still feel him going for another strike.
When my head hit the cold, hard wall for the second time, darkness consumed my whole body, so is my consciousness.
“Mama! Papa! Help me!” I screamed as I get up hurriedly from laying.
Because of the sudden movement, pain suddenly ensued on my shoulder. My left hand reached for the aching part.
“Mi amor,” a familiar voice called. I looked at my right side and I saw Kelleon looking at me with concern.
I was taken aback on how he looked like. If it was for my words, he looks like shit.
His hair is disheveled. He has dark circles under his eyes like he hasn’t got any sleep for days. His lips are also dry, as if he hasn’t drank a single drop of water.
“Cariño,” I reached for his face, but stopped midway because of the pain on my shoulder. “What happened to you?”
He stared at me for a couple of seconds before giving a reply. “You happened, mi amor.”
I was about to ask him, but memories of what happened before I lose my consciousness entered my mind.
Denisse.
Confrontation.
Gun.
That’s right! The gun! She’s going to shoot Kelleon!
I hurriedly inspected Kelleon’s body for any wounds or bullet shot. Maybe he looked like that because he lost a lot of blood!
“What are you doing, mi amor?” he asked while I was busy checking his body and not minding my aching shoulder.
I looked at him and stopped on what I was doing. “Denisse shot you, right? Are you okay?”
He chuckled for a short time. “I’m fine, mi amor. And, I didn’t get shot. It was you and Mama Tine who got shot.”
My hands flew to my mouth when I heard that. How did that happen? Mama Tine wasn’t there when we ‘talked’ to Denisse.
“Huh? Why did Mama Tine got shot? Denisse was aiming for you!”
His fingers ran through his hair. “She took the first bullet. It was supposed to hit me, but you covered me up. However, Mama Tine was fast. She was able to block the bullet before it hits you.”
I suddenly felt guilty. “Where is she? We need to visit her.”
He reached for my hand and squeezed it. “Don’t worry. The wound wasn’t fatal. It didn’t hit any vital organs. She underwent a surgery yesterday and they’re looking for a blood donor since the supply wasn’t enough.”
I let out a sigh of relief. “Thank, God.”
“Denisse release another bullet shot, and it hit your shoulders,” Kelleon spoke while staring at my wounded part.
“Oh,” I said. “Where is that bitch anyway?”
“She’s not here anymore” he answered without any emotion. “I shot her.”
My eyes widened at what he said. My mouth slowly opened while staring at him.Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.
“What?” I asked him for clarifications. I might heard it wrong.
His eyes stared deeply to mine, as if he was looking for something hidden there. “She’s not here anymore. I shot her.”
I shook my head slowly. “Why? You don’t have to shoot her,” I whispered under my breath.
“If I didn’t do that, she will kill you,” he touched my face. “I will do it again if it’s needed to save you.”
He said that Denisse is not here anymore. Does he mean “here” as in the world? Is Denisse dead?
A moment of silence ensued between the two of us. I can’t think clearly. A part of me was saying that I should be glad that Denisse cannot hurt Kelleon anymore. However, there’s a part of me that felt guilty of what happened, saying that she doesn’t deserve to die.
Kelleon suddenly was scared of my silence. “Are you angry at me, mi amor?”
I stared at him. Should I be mad? He killed a human.
I sighed. “You don’t have to kill her.”
Suddenly, his body became stiff. I looked up at him again and saw his eyes widened.
“We could’ve sent her to prison instead of killing her. I can’t… I don’t have a heart to do that to her even if I’m very mad at her.”
It was silent, but a loud laughter covered the whole room.
I looked at Kelleon with disbelief. “Why are you laughing?!” I exclaimed. “There’s nothing funny about this! You just killed a human!”
He covered his mouth to stop himself from laughing, but failed miserably.
“Stop!” I exclaimed because I feel irritated at him.
After some moments, his laughter died. I glared at him while he was drying the tears of laughter in his eyes.
“Mi amor,” he called me with a smile on his lips. “I didn’t know that you’re an overthinker.”
My forehead wrinkled at him. “Huh? What do you mean?”
“I didn’t kill anyone,” he answered.
I titled my head to the side. “But you said that you shot Denisse and she’s not here with us anymore…”
He chuckled before pinching my nose. “I did. I did shot her, but she’s not dead. She’s not here with us because I already sent her to jail, together with her family.”
