Chapter 146 Nancy Has Left
“It’s alright,” Nancy refused.
Nicholas sighed. “It’s just one night. What do you think I’ll do to you?”
Nancy said nothing, pursing her lips. She wasn’t afraid he would do anything. She was worried she might become too reluctant to leave if she stayed too long.
“You stay here. I’ll sleep in the office. I’ll give you a ride tomorrow.”
Well, he’s gone this far. Nancy nodded. “Fine.”
Nancy woke up the next morning. It was only six o’clock. She made a simple breakfast and packed her things. It wasn’t even eight when she finished. She took her luggage to the entrance, but in the end, she went upstairs again. As she looked downstairs, she started to feel regret. When she first entered this house, she was filled with anticipation and delight. She dreamed of her life-after marrying him. When she opened the door to their bedroom, she would be filled with happiness.
She had imagined how their life would be. She would make breakfast for him every morning and help him tie his tie. She would spend time with him in his study every night. He would be working while she would be studying. They would grow together.
She thought about how they would wake up on Saturday mornings holding each other. They would enjoy the sound of rain outside as they stayed in bed.
Yet, reality taught her a lesson. All her dreams were shattered. Not a single one came true. In the end, a loveless marriage was nothing but an empty shell. One couldn’t find happiness in a soulless marriage.
When she first moved in, she thought she would stay with him for life, and until death would they part. She never thought she would leave feeling defeated one day. Nancy walked past the study and the bedroom before going back downstairs. It was already eight, but Nicholas hadn’t returned.
She made a call. Nicholas’ phone was on the table, beeping, but he didn’t have the courage to answer. He was scared. He realized he couldn’t watch her leave just like that. He couldn’t watch her get further away from him. Every time he thought about the fact that she would leave, he couldn’t face it. So, he went into hiding and had Lynn send her off.
“I’m sorry, Nancy. You must hate me.” Nicholas looked up, his chest squeezing in pain, yet he still didn’t have the courage to answer her call.
Since Nicholas wasn’t answering, Nancy was going to hang up, but then a robotic voice told her to leave a message. She left a message and hung up.
It was only then that Nicholas picked up his phone and listened to her message. “Thank you for letting me stay the night, Nicholas. I’ve packed up, and I left the keys on the dining table. We should’ve said a proper goodbye. I wanted to, but you seem to be busy, so I guess I’ll just say it myself. Goodbye, Nicholas. I’m leaving.”
Nicholas couldn’t hold back anymore. He grabbed his keys and ran home as fast as he could.
Nancy pulled her luggage and opened the door, only to see Lynn standing outside.
Lynn quickly said, “Madam, Mr. Sallow asked me to help you with your luggage.”
“It’s alright. I don’t have a lot of stuff. Only two pieces of luggage. I can handle it myself.” She didn’t have a lot of belongings to begin with. She only agreed to let Nicholas give her a ride because of her own desire. She wanted to see him once again before she left and say goodbye. Since he didn’t show up, there was no need for that.
“This is his request. I should give you a ride,” Lynn insisted.
Nancy insisted, “It’s alright. Besides, we’re divorced. You don’t have to call me madam anymore. Just call me Nancy.”
Lynn raised his head. He had suspected that the marriage was in trouble from Nicholas’ actions and words. Lynn thought they were just having an argument, but he never thought they would get a divorce. They actually did.
Nancy noticed his surprise. “Don’t be too surprised. This was bound to happen the moment we got together. You don’t have to give me a ride. I can handle this myself.”
“I’ll still give you a ride, madam. This isn’t because of his request. I want to do this myself,” said Lynn. When she was still Nicholas’ wife, Nancy had Lynn’s great approval. She wasn’t haughty or demanding.
Even though she was Nicholas’ wife, she remained humble and continued her education, pursuing her dreams persistently. She was gentle, generous, and kind, unlike the other wealthy women. Jacob must have wanted her to marry Nicholas because of these qualities, but alas, Nicholas was too blind to see them. Instead, he became infatuated with Madelline.
Eventually, Nancy arrived at Linda’s house. Lynn helped Nancy take the luggage inside. Nancy thanked him and got him a glass of water.
Lynn left after drinking the water. Before he did, he looked at Nancy, and after some thought, he chose to say, “Madam, if it’s possible, I’d like for you to reconcile with Mr. Sallow.”
Nancy smiled. “Maybe.” Reconcile with him? That’s not easy. It’s not like I haven’t considered it, but I’ve already spent ten years of my youth on him. I don’t want to waste any more time. She was then
reminded of something, and she said, “Wait a minute, Lynn.”
She went inside and came back out with a lovely box for Lynn. “These are the pieces of jewelry he bought for me over the years. They’re expensive, and I don’t think I should keep them. Give them back to him. You helped choose them. You know them well, so check if I missed anything.” Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
Lynn looked and picked up a couple of pieces of jewelry. “I’ve seen you wearing this bracelet, madam. But I didn’t choose it. And I didn’t choose these earrings either.”
“Oh, his grandfather gave them to me. His grandmother wanted to give them to Nicholas’ wife, but now that we’re divorced, I should return them.”
“I’ll give these to him, then.” Lynn nodded.
“Yeah, thanks.”
Nicholas got out of the car and ran into his house, but it was silent. There was no one there. It had been silent for a while now. Nancy had left.
“Nancy.” Even though he knew she was gone, Nicholas still called out to her. He then called Lynn. “Give me her new address.” After he got the address, Nicholas drove to Nancy’s new place without even stopping.
