John helped her back to her apartment carefully and suggested, “Jessie, you’ll need someone to take care of you. You won’t be able to take care of yourself now.”
Jessie nodded. “I know. My friend is coming back soon. She’ll take care of me. You need to head back for your work, John. I won’t keep you any longer, then.”
John took a glance at his watch. He indeed did not have the time to stay long, and he had an important surgery scheduled for today. So he left after making sure she would be okay.
Jessie was lying on her bed. She couldn’t describe the feeling that she was having. She felt pain everywhere, and she was dizzy and nauseous. The wound on her arm was hurting too.
She was breathing fine like a normal person, but she felt like she was in hell.
She just couldn’t believe that Chase was the one she missed the most at times like this. She could still recall the time when she had appendicitis. He carried her in h arms and braved the snow to rush to the hospital.
She was a little finicky back in the day. Tears were rolling down her face as she wa brought into the operating theatre. He didn’t let go of her hands, and the doctor had to perform the surgery with him by her side.
She could still remember his expression as he said, ‘Don’t be afraid, I’m by your
side.‘
She was on bedrest for a month after the surgery, and Chase was taking care of h meticulously. But now he was by somebody else’s side, taking care of the childre on their own.
Jessie tried hard to warn herself about his unfaithfulness and his cruelty. She needed to forget everything good about him.
With excruciating pain, Jessie went out of her bed. She told herself that she had

She braved through the pain for three days on her bed. She felt better on the fourth day in the morning as she woke up.
The curtain was suddenly drawn open. It was John. He would stop by her place to take care of her after work.
He brought fresh ingredients with him, along with roasted sweet potatoes that she had been craving.
He arrived in a hurry. There was a tinge of moisture on his black coat and his hair. Jessie could see some snowflakes on his eyelashes as he was assessing her condition.
“Is it snowing already?” She asked weakly.
John nodded. “Yes, it was snowing all night last night. I’ll take you out to see the

“Sure. I feel quite alright today.” Jessie got up from her bed and cuddled in her thick sleepwear.
She saw fallen hair strands on her pillow.
She cut her hair short because she knew this was going to happen. But seeing it with her own eyes startled her still.
She immediately pulled up the blanket to cover the pillow. She didn’t want to show this side of her to anybody.
Looking anxious, she said, “I’ll go wash up.”
John has seen a lot of cancer patients. They were not only scared of the illness and death, but they were also scared of their appearance while battling the illness.
“Sure, take your time.”
Jessie shut the bathroom door and looked at herself in the mirror. She was weak and pale. She didn’t even need to pull hard on her hair. It was already falling.

She didn’t want to see Chase after her hair had all fallen out after she went bald.
Jessie turned on her phone and ignored all the piled–up messages. She straight away made a call to Chase.
She didn’t know that Chase was looking for her these few days.
He answered the call immediately, unlike before, when she had to wait for a while before he picked up. He sounded angry when he answered, “Where the hell were you, Jessie?”
He had been looking for her for four days!
